On Saturday evening Loreen and her song “Tattoo” was the first act announced in heat 4 of Melodifestivalen 2023 in Malmö to go directly into the final.
And less than two days later she has broken all streaming records of a Melfest entry on Spotify since the numbers went on record in 2017.
None of the previous years’ entries were streamed more than 200,000 times the day after being released on Spotify, but Loreen annihilated those numbers by being streamed 375,600 times on Sunday alone! That also meant “Tattoo” went straight to the #1 spot on the Swedish Top 50 chart.
The previous record for streams for a Melfest entry was held by John Lundvik – “Too Late For Love” in 2019, that also went to #1 with 191,960 streams. So Loreen almost doubled the 2019 winner in terms of streaming numbers.
Sweden love their Melfest entries this year, as Smash Into Pieces – “Six Feet Under” are at #2 with 197,701 streams and Norwegian twins Marcus & Martinus – “Air” take the #3 spot with 157,978 streams.
Other Melfest entries in the top 10 are THEOZ – “Mer av dig” at #5, Jon Henrik Fjällgren – “Where You Are (Sávežan)” at #8 and Panetoz – “On My Way” at #9.
Did you stream “Tattoo” already? Are there other Melfest songs you have been listening to in the past few days? Let us know in the comments below.
As a Swede it makes me unhappy to read hateful comments every year about how overrated sweden is. Can these people honestly not see that it is not to any advantage what so ever to compete for Sweden?
People always have high expectations on Sweden due to the absolute masterpieces that have been sent in the past. Tattoo is the best song in the competition this far, it is a great song. Juries will give it high points the fans will cry. People don’t want Sweden to win and to an extent I can understand it. Sweden is running laps around every other country and they can’t handle it. Loreen is having momentum and people are scared that she is going to win because they don’t want Stockholm 2024. The ONLY possible other contenders is Birdy for the… Read more »
If Sweden have Finland son everybody should hate it then
The staging was cinematic. It was like a high budget movie (SVT resources( but the song itself is just bland. It doesn’t have the mindlowing effect and I don’t want to overhype songs just because of the singer.
I also don’t want to characterize songs as “Package for Eurovision”; I just want to vote for the song, not for the sake of Loreen’s popularity.
At the moment, I have only two wishes about Eurovision winners – not Loreen and not Ukraine. Supporting Ukraine to the fullest, but Heart of Steel is not winning material and would be NQ easily if it was for example Latvia, not Ukraine. Also, Loreen is the icon of Eurovision, but this song also wouldn’t catch anyone’s attention if it wasn’t her. I just want to see good songs win. Don’t want to see songs performing well because of the country they are from, or because they are sung by a famous singer. It just ruins the whole competition and… Read more »
I completely agree with you; everyone hypes the song just because of the singer as ESC winner and I find this unfair.
Well if people like it what are you going to do?
You can not stop people from voting for any reason. Maybe people just like the songs as they are?
I’m relieved to see that many wiwibloggers feel the same about the song. It is good but not great. At least not as great as we’re meant to believe. 6/8 points for me (which is still very good)!
Well, here it’s always negativity about Sweden. Doesn’t reflect anything. And the so called favourites have failed outside the esc bubble. It’s indeed a BUBBLE.
Sure, it’s a bubble. However, there is no negativity about Sweden. It’s just that expectations are very high (and often… deceived).
Yeas it ifor many years
It seems that fans think that a song shouldnt be overhyped just because of the popularity of its singer and I agree.
The flow of the song seems for me flat and the build-up that goes nowhere.
A generic, designed song, with good staging because without staging, the song doesnt stand out and just bleak.
Or shockingly, maybe it is hyped because people actually think it is a great song?
I love Loreen’s artistry, I think her style of singing and voice itself can turn any bland song into a good one, but it still doesn’t change the fact that it is what it is – a bland song. That’s my exact problem with Tattoo. As much as I like the visual and vocal aspect of her performance, I just can’t see this winnig Eurovision in 2020’s. IMO her 2017 melfest bid Statements is miles ahead of Tattoo for a simple fact that it just feels more real, relevant and raw than this poppy average stuff. And the problem with… Read more »
The performance is very cool, The song is good, but not that great as I expected. With all the hype I was expected to be blown away, but really it’s a bit basic song with average lyrics. Staging team focused on the visual effects but seems that songwriters didn’t so much focus on the song.
I don’t want to hype the song due to Loreen sings it.
I am actually guilty. I have already listened to it like 500 times ! ?
I was afraid. I always think that songs from the Melodifestivalen are way too generic. And eventually the songs that represent Sweden too.
Then Cornelia happened. And now, probably Loreen.
Hold Me Closer and Tattoo are masterpieces.
Love from France !
I hope Netherlands’ song would be better than Loreen’s overhyped song. Have learnt that Duncan Laurence wrote the song 🙂
Love this. You are so scared of Loreen and you should be. In ice hockey its like Canada meeting Taiwan. She eats everyone up this year, or she should. No one is near so if she loose we know its a corrupt system.
Continue on overhyping Loreen’s song and Sweden. Sweden or SVT will give you a medal 🙂
Continue overhyping Loreen? Like she has been the contestant every year? 😉 Okey I get the hate, she’s great year and thats why you are angry. I hope so too, hope they give me a medal. 🙂
Loreen is a great singer but “Tattoo” is not a good song, sorry. I prefer focusing on the song; not the popularity of the singer.
Its a good song. No everyone are focusing on not let Sweden do good.
It’s so many song this year who not have a good song Finland, Spain , Croatci and many more. Europe have hate Sweden for so many years now. And it will go on, and go on…..
The finnish entry? I love it. My dad are Fin and mom swede. I have a love for both but in general we have a saying in my family – Finland are the best in hockey and Sweden in music. Wont be mad if the cha cha will be top 3. But this year I think Loreen are sharper.
We don’t want a Swedish win; but a Finnish win would be good.
I would love a Finnish win usually. My dad are Fin so im so into it. When Lordi won? No discussion about it, that was the right winner. But I think this contest will outdo itself if cha cha cha and chicken songs are the only songs you esc-fans votes for. Its so awful to think that sweden must send a song with fart sounds just for the approval.
I liked the performance, not the song itself which is quite simple with its average lyrics; chorus and melody. What I remember after listening and watching was simply some lightning and foggy effects; a singer singing an average song :/
I know many fans like Loreen and tend to hype around Sweden; I would be objective.
I agree. Finland is my favorite, the staging is very clear and the lyrics is brilliant. Cha Cha Cha.
Maybe like f1 introduce a cost cap.
Loreen has spent a fortune on staging to overcome at best a top 10 song.
So maybe Eurovision and wiwiblogs you could promote a cost cap on staging spending do it’s fair to everyone?
If you don’t adhere to it then you are thrown out the year after
Thanks for that idea. Good luck on enforcing it. 🙂
The reason something looks good is not necessary about money, it often has to do with competence. Should competence be banned in the Eurovision?
It’s a nice enough song. … Probably, if you like that kind of music, … but it’s not growing me; especially the chorus. The performance was good but you know, it’s a matter of financing that visual effects, Led screens etc. Simple, a bit generic and gloomy song.
I think it is not always good to hype songs too much and comments also show that not all fans liked the song itself. Some websites like wiwibloggs, YouTube channels like “Vins” are always overhype Loreen as if that singer was sent as gift for the music. Just overhyping :/
Wow! So much hate and dislike for a song that is not even officialy an entry! Whether its the country or artist I do not know but it must be a new record set, most disliked song before selection!
I absolutely love Loreen’s new song, I gotta feeling we might be heading back to Sweden next year.
I looooove her song too ….so, you see – you’re not alone.
It is really odd to call the fans who didn’t like Loreen’s “Tattoo” song as haters. We don’t have to like every song sang by previous ESc winner.
The song is good; nothing special and bland. Just a well-known ESC winner singing a simple song among fogs and high-budget visual effects.
But Wiwibloggs-commentators are always negative about Sweden no matter what.
All that hate here against Loreen is really heartbreaking.
Is it because it’s Sweden?
I’m happy she’s returning with a powerful song and a mindblowing act.
She’s such an underrated artist…
hate?, when people respectfully say they don‘t like her song, that‘s not hate it‘s an opinion nothing more nothing less.
Thats Wiwibloggs-commentators in a nutshell. They hate Swedish entrys no matter what
The world loves Loreen and her new song.
But the jealous will gonna hate. I doesn’t matter. She will win.
Agreed totally. Kaarija number 1 in Finland, nothing. Alessandra number 1 in Norway for ten days. Nothing. Alessandra vitally taken Europe by storm. Nothing.
Loreen loreen keep her as top headline. We need our queen to win
No, we don’t her to win; Just want another country to win this contest.
You didn’t read that right I was playing fan girl wiwiblogs at the end. Sarcasm
I understand that. Europe don’t wore for the song, they wore for a country.
I’ve listened to the studio version without looking at the performance and then watched the performance. Quite bland to be honest, while live the “Violins playing and angels crying” lyric sounds very… simple and a bit average.
I believe most of the hype comes from the stage performance. I am sure if Loreen sang “Voices” for instance (Sweden’s entry in 2021); Fans would have still overhyped it, saying “what a great song” :/
Please everyone do not want Sweden this year it’s absolutely ridiculous so the woman is going enter again what about the rest of the people
We have 2 autos now, lorreen cause she won before hype.
And Ukraine cause of the war, exciting stuff, they should remove the competing element, since voting is apparently based on everything but the songs and the visuals, vocals
This comment section is a Loreen-bashing contest ? I have never seen so many negative comments on an entry that has not even won its NF yet
I listened to it once and personally didn’t like the song, it made me a bit bored. It’s nothing special, just good… but doesn’t stand out at all.
Let “Overhyping-Swedish-songs” Contest 2023 begin! 🙂
The Sweden haters are big mad
My view on“Tattoo” is that it is pretty bleak and dated, trying to make an updated version of a song which was out 11 years ago using mostly same instruments is not an idea which I find appealing. I also found the lyrics simple and average.
Loreen’s song is just a good visual performance; not a classy song and I also want another country win or be in top 3. I think Euoppharia could win without staging but Without that expensive visual effects; “Tattoo” is just okay song.
People complain about staging enhancing the song. But that is Loreen, with her it is never just about the song. She did the same with Euphoria. What would the song have been without her staging of it? Would it have won without staging? It was a ordinary house song anybody could have song. But it’s her staging of it that made it unique, same here. Same with any ESC song really, because the visuals are that important As for the lyrics, did Euphoria have better lyrics? A song about feeling euphoria and being with someone forever and ever. How deep!… Read more »
I have get the critics during a lot of years with swedish entries. Tusse, Benjamin, John L for example. But this year Loreen are in another leauge then the other countries. If Sweden dont get to top 3 this year in ESC it would be a scandal.
Not at all.
Eeeeh, yes. Just to remind you. Its all about the song and performance. Not about the country or a circus-performance. ?
For example France and Norway have quite similar female power songs this year. Personally I prefer France’s song above Sweden’s. Loreen can get top 3, but it’s not a scandal if she doesn’t. It’s not the only good song in the competition?
I always feel like I’d like Loreens songs more if they weren’t so hyped by the fans. They’re always in tha place where I like them well enough but at same time find myself looking sideways at the people are just hoping it too much.
The song is just average; with its simple chorus. I would be objective and for my Perspective, Loreen is not like “first among equals”; due to her popularity as former ESC winner and overhyping a singer is also unfair for other participating singers.
I heard “Tattoo” a few times now, and I still don’t get it… I sort of like it when I’m listening it, but just as the song gets going, the beat “stalls” oddly (don’t know how to better describe it). When it ends, I forget it almost instantly.
Don’t understand the hype, also.
Over the years, hype has become essential in the yearly Eurovision cycle, especially in the months closer to the event. However, hype can sometimes be so harmful to Eurovision.
I have higher expectations from Netherlands; they also bring original unique songs unlike Sweden.
“Tattoo” is not a song which I want to listen, I am sorry I would be objective. The hype is just thanks to Loreen and expensive visually rich staging effectd; nothing more. Its chorus is flat; linear and lyrics are really surprisingly simple and these lyrics are written by professional Swedish songwriters :/
And it’s repetitive. Besides, the verse melody reminds me of ABBA’s ‘The Winner Takes It All”.
Agree on weak chorus and ridiculously.., i would even say – painfully banal message of the song. It does NOT correlate with the quality of the production, staging, Loreen’s charisma. Disappointing., but Loreen will almost certainly go through to the final of ESC and get highest placing.
The Netherlands are one of the best to send good songs in ESC. I agree with that. But I dont agree with you that Sweden sends simple songs. Actually its well produced and on point. Its hard to satisfy hardcore ESC-fans but I think that not every entry can be like a freakshow with juggling clowns and stuff.
Let the brainwashing/ propaganda Begin !
So what? Song is dated, generic and doesnt advance somewhere, sample from 1992 which even Mika Newton used
Loreen is not only about the song. She also competed in 2011, but was hardly remembered. In 2012 she had a very strong will about staging. Removing the lights. Just being backlit. Many things that enhanced the song. Also her vocals that made a mediocre house song into something else. Many here complain about the lyrics of Tatto, but was Euphoria better? It’s actually normally not a lyrics competition either. Anyway, I root for her in Melodifestivalen. That’s also her current situation. That’s why they talk about streaming numbers. Because she is having a personal victory over the throwback in… Read more »
Euphoria was definately better and don’t forget it was 2012, not 2023 …
But would it have been as good without the staging is what he asked?
The song is interchangable. It was not written for Loreen. Any female or male artist could have sung it. But would the result have been the same? There were thousand of house songs like that that year..
I wonder how our attachments to certain songs would go if we were unaware of the massive hype which reaches this heights this early on. Because, in some cases, we could convince ourselves that the song that is this much hyped by everyone else must be good, and tag along because that’s what we are supposed to do. In other cases, we might get tired of a pretty good song easily because we find it exhausting of hearing how perfect it is all the time. At this point, I have issues in assessing how much I like Tattoo, because of… Read more »
I think Loreen will win MF, compare to other participants she stand out the most. I really want Loreen to win ESC again. But, i think she probably end up 2nd or 3rd worst they will get is probably top 10.
See you all in Stockholm for ESC 2024.
I don’t understand all these negative comments about Sweden, I think they’ve got a really strong grand final this year with Loreen, Marcus and Martinus and Smash into Pieces just to name a few. I get why people might think Loreen is being overhyped right now as she hasn’t even been selected yet and we still haven’t heard all of the songs or seen the stage performances for Eurovision this year so other countries could still surprise, but I wish people would still appreciate the effort that Sweden always puts in every year to their national final.
Anything and everything positive about Sweden’s entries gets massive amounts of downvotes and negative replies, that’s just how it is. It started back in 2012 and every year since it has just gotten worse. Comments and downvotes here so far though hasn’t been reflected on the actual results so it’s obvious that the small group of ESC fans who seemingly always hate on the Swedish entries here do not share the opinions of the majority of other ESC viewers and voters so people shouldn’t take it too seriously.
other country’s deal with negativity too when it comes to eurovision and their performing artist. Unfortunately this is Europe 2023, it’s not just Sweden, believe me.
I hope this year’s ESC contest is not an automatic coronation of Loreen. I like to see unpredictable competitive contest. It’s been such an odd pre-selection season with what the fandom likes seem to be song the jurors would not. This seems the only song/performance to have cross appeal.
Tbh the staging is kinda simple. Lighting, smoke and a screen above her. I think you just don’t wanna admit that you enjoy the song just because it’s from Sweden
Hahahaha, quite simple? Please tell me who are on point this year? This must be joke?
Every year Sweden is praised by Wiwibloggs, it’s getting on my nerves.
I love Loreen but this song is nothing special, she can do better tbh.
Sweden produces quality songs every year. Other countries need to compete. Last year Hold Me Closer was my #1. If Loreen wins she’ll be in my top 3.
Sweden always have only generic bland pop which we heard million of times lol
But I remember that even in 2021, some fans were still overhyping Sweden’s entry “Voices” :/ It was generic. You are right, “Hold Me Closer” song was also good but I didn’t like Loreen’s song.
Wiwiblogs praise EVERYTHING! They always stay positive for countries and entries. You see what you want to see
How can she do better? I have now seen all the contestants and no one is even near. What do you want from her? Have a monkey on stage? Juggling a gun? Bring back Beethoven from the dead to do the piano in the background? What exactly do you expect more of her? 😀
And show some respect to the Sir Terry Wogan I’ve seen the video you slagging him off how dare you do this
I enjoyed Euphoria but Tattoo is just good; nothing any additional.
Everyone is ranking it so high and praising it, and that’s the part I don’t get.
It’s a good song, but I feel like it’s really missing that last bit that makes it a REALLY good song. Hold Me Closer had something unique; you can always listen it whichever mood you have. But Tattoo; Just a visually expensive and good performance :/
Why do wiwibloggs every every back Sweden to won totally unfair on other entities I have come to the conclusion you just want Sweden to win every year and I am fed up and sick of it so from now on I am boycotting your webpage I am not watching anything you say about Eurovision you are biased
They are positive about everything Eurovision. You see what you want to see
Real ? What planet are you on
yeah that’s true wiwi spread’s positivity not hate ??
Sometimes simple doesn’t mean bad. Loreen sings this song like a story. The staging lifting the song up to another level but the song and the artist itself is great enough. Interpretation, emotions that’s why we love Loreen. Even with a simple lyrics she can do great being just herself.
Definitely my top 5
I respect to your opinion but I personally vote for the song; I want to listen the song on my headphones and personally I don’t get emotions from “Tattoo”; because of its bland lyrics and pretentious, artificial performance.
Your comment mattered for “Hold Me Closer”; its lyrics were also simple but it had really good melody. Tattoo doesnt have such a good melody.
Haters gonna hate and continue to be petty! However, no matter what, there is no negative vote in Eurovision, so do your think but bitter negative energy have an impact on you and only you
The flow of the song seems for me very flat and the build-up that goes nowhere is a disappointment. A very generic song, with good staging because without staging, the song doesnt stand out. The staging is the best part of it!
My personal opinion, Don’t call me as hater, we don’t have to like Loreen’s every song.
