Eurovision Song Contest 2023 United By Music

With every passing day, more and more acts are joining the Eurovision 2023 party. We now have 21 entries for the contest and the competition is shaping up.

Therefore, it’s time for us to pose the question to you once again: Who is your favourite Eurovision 2023 act so far?

Croatia’s Let 3 emerged victorious in our last poll. But with six new acts now in the game, they’ll need to battle fresh blood to retain pole position.

Scroll down to vote in our poll

Eurovision 2023 acts: New additions

Lithuania: Monika Linkytė – “Stay”

Monika Linkytė is making a return to Eurovision, having first participated in 2015 alongside Vaidas Baumila. This time she’s competing solo with the song “Stay”. Monika fought off stiff competition at Pabandom iš naujo to be selected. After winning the jury vote and finishing second with the televote, she was tied for first place. However, luckily for Monika, the jury were the ones to break the tie.

France: La Zarra – “Évidemment

France have put their national selection on hold in order to internally select La Zarra for Eurovision 2023. The Canadian singer based in France won over the French delegation with her song “Évidemment“. Now that it’s been released, the French disco tune is also beginning to win over fans — but has La Zarra won over enough to secure victory in this poll?

Australia: Voyager – “Promise”

Australia are another country ditching their national final in favour of internal selection this year. Voyager finished second at Eurovision – Australia Decides in 2022, but now they’ve been given a direct ticket to the contest. Thus, 2023 marks the first year that Australia have not sent a solo singer to Eurovision. Voyager will be coming to Liverpool with the song “Promise”.

Finland: Käärijä – “Cha Cha Cha”

Get those dancing shoes on, because we’ll all be doing the “Cha Cha Cha” in May thanks to Käärijä. He had a resounding victory at Finland’s UMK 2023, picking up 45% of all the points in the final. The last time the country sent an act in the Finnish language was 2015, when Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät finished last in their semi-final. So the only way for Käärijä to go is up!

San Marino: Piqued Jacks – “Like An Animal”

Una voce per San Marino 2023 featured 106 semi-finalists. In the end, it was Piqued Jacks who managed to push their way to the top of the pile. They became the eighth band to be selected for Eurovision this year. They’ll hit the Liverpool stage with the song “Like An Animal”.

Poland: Blanka – “Solo”

The latest addition to the line-up is Blanka. She beat off some strong fan favourites to be crowned the winner of Poland’s national selection, Tu bije serce Europy! Wybieramy hit na Eurowizję. Blanka is bringing the summer heat to Europe a few seasons early with her Latin-inspired single “Solo”.

Previously chosen acts

Poll: Who is your favourite Eurovision 2023 act so far? (27 February)

You are able to vote for as many acts as you want to in the poll. But as always, you’ll only be able to vote once!

Who did you vote for? How do you think Eurovision 2023 is shaping up so far? Let us know in the comments below.

At this moment, I am loving the sophistication of France but also the outright loonies of Finland! Thank you, Finland. The contest needs songs like this.

UMK has the same rules about playback as ESC. Käärijä usually performs with two backing vocalists, you can see them in the music video. But since they weren’t on the UMK stage, their parts were pre-recorded.

Might be, but there are few instances where the voice (which looks as its his part) continues even after he moves mic away. But of course I might be wrong.

I am amazed that he can perform this intensive piece with all the dancing. Great stuff

It is not at all uncommon to have backups that sound and awful lot like the lead. It is also not uncommon at all in Eurovision for the backup to sing ‘lead’ lines at times. We’ll see if this is the case with him. There will be many opportunities to hear him live in the next 10 weeks.

Nope. In UMK artists must sing live. It has been actually a problem in the contest many years with the mixing of the music. A lot of artists struggles to stay in key which happened to Benjamin this year.

Well if Croatia rigged the pool once, as many suggested on the previous poll they would easily do it again. It was a “WTF” effect as well as link to previous poll being published in many Croatian portals. I believe its a similar thing with Finland (I personally love it), but its also different, standing out. All will be seen in May 😉

lithuania and czechia are for me the best songs! i can see that some are loving finland or croatia, but probably mostly because of the perfomance. i can not see many listening to those songs in their freetime. but thats maybe the change in the eurovision song contest, that i am not liking.
and before i am getting many dislikes. i am myself from croatia, prestanite!

It’s working like Hattari, the crowd that likes bizarre electronic acts will loose their sh*t over this. The juries and the rest of the people will have another WTF moment. The problem is that this year there might be too many weirdo acts so being a weirdo in a year like that is not exactly an advantage.

I’ve got a few in the mix. Blanca Paloma’s been my #1 since her awesome performances at Benidorm, and she could very well get back there with another performance, but it’s hard to put her at #1 right now in this interregnum when it’s a little too abstract to be a great playlist song. Right now I’m kind of flipping between the crowd-pleasing and off-the-wall Kaarija and Sudden Lights, who have a great song that evokes a ton of nostalgia for me personally. “Due Vite” has climbed a lot for me since it was chosen and might be in the… Read more »

I don’t think a song should win based only on the charisma and talent of the performer. Loreen has many great songs and she has proven before that she’s super talented but the hype around Tattoo is just … overdone; pretentious and bland song for me.

The performance has proven to be equally important as the song nowadays. We have seen so many times how great songs have been destroyed by terrible performances and stagings. So having a great song is not making it a winner. Tattoo is not bad at all and it’s not a Euphoria either. But modern and well produced, showing Loreen’s voice. And the performance is world class. I simply can’t see anyone topping it this year.

Richard

For Loreen’s “Tattoo”; I always feel like I’d like Loreens songs more if they weren’t so hyped. They’re always in that awkward place where I like them well enough but at same time find myself less impressed at the people losing their minds over them.
Tattoo is not a song that I would enjoy listening, of course different views are all welcomed.

Having found my winner for 2023 (Loreen) I gave a first listen to all the songs selected so far and I’m actually not disappointed at all. It’s an interesting year, and actually a rather uptempo one which makes me wonder how juries will vote this year, expecting that live performances will play a big role once more. I absolutely love Czechia, Finland, and Norway so far, with Italy and France following close behind. Slovenia and Estonia are also enjoyable, while Croatia is a guilty pleasure. For Loreen’s song, I’ve listened to the studio version without looking at the performance. Quite bland to be perfectly honest, while live the “Violins playing and angels crying” lyric sounds very… simple and struggling.

  • They’re unique entries in the context of ESC as a whole, not just this year.
  • They don’t feel like songs specifically written for the contest, they really stand on their own and they don’t compromise.
  • The artists in question have got a clear identity and a vision which is fully implemented here.
  • They’re more interesting to listen to than the other 19.

Finland and France finally set the bar higher for this year. My concern with Cha Cha Cha is that after the bridge it becomes the usual Nordic campy gimmick: funny and nonsense.
