The Eurovision 2012 champion is back. Loreen is the winner of Melodifestivalen and will sing “Tattoo” for Sweden at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool.
After a thrilling six weeks, the Swedish public named Loreen their pick for Eurovision. The “Euphoria” hitmaker claimed her second Melfest trophy, beating out Norwegian twin stars Marcus & Martinus and Ukrainian singer Maria Sur amongst others.
Loreen won both the public televote and the jury vote.
Sweden Eurovision 2023: Loreen wins Melodifestivalen with “Tattoo”
Twelve acts competed in the Melodifestivalen 2023 final.

- Mariette — “One Day”
- Marcus & Martinus — “Air”
- Panetoz — “On My Way”
- Maria Sur — “Never Give Up”

- Kiana — “Where Did You Go”

Results
The grand final results were determined by a 50-50 split of jury votes and public votes. Eight international juries — consisting of music professionals — ranked their favourites and award 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 12 points in traditional Eurovision style.
Public votes via the Melfest app are split by seven age groups: 3-9, 10-15, 16-29, 30-44, 45-59, 60-74 and 75+. Votes via telephone fall into their own category. After the jury voting sequence, points from all eight public voting groups were pooled together, with each artist finding out their public voting score one by one.
Loreen won the international jury vote with 92 points, receiving the maximum 12 points from seven out of eight juries. The Croatian jury awarded their 12 points to Theoz.
Loreen also won the public televote, scoring 85 points.

Did the right artist win? How will Loreen fair in Liverpool? Share your thoughts below.
She is a contender for the “Barbara Dex Award”
I’m never disappointed with Loreen. I didn’t like Euphoria, I hate this one. Good progression.
Point Aeri – Flying Free is the winner this year I can see
Loreen plagiarism queen??
I appreciate Loreen and her previous win but there are so many better songs and performances this year. If she does win, I don’t say she should not, it will mostly be on her old glory
I love this song. Especially Daft Punk’s version (and Madonna’s violins are a nice touch. ) Why is she always allowed to sing in dim light,? Lip synching again?
Sweden may as well send in Euphoria again because Tattoo is just the same – same old sound been there heard it before nothing original -Loreen lying on the floor synthetic music from 1990
DULL
Gorgeous song, definitely the jury winner. But not the overall and public vote winner in Liverpool. Finland will win the public vote with a landslide: Europe will dance all summer long the cha cha cha.
The Sweden loving juries will destroy Finland’s chances. Not that I am a fan of the Fi nish entry, just the juries always vote heavily for Sweden and pretentiousness generally. The only hope of stopping Loreen’s familiar dirge feom winning is Ukraine am afraid, assuming they get another huge wave of public votes.
While this is amazing and Loreen is an extraordinary artist, I don’t think this will be the landslide victory some people expect.
Totally agree.
Yees! I’m extremely happy! Loreen is here to win Eurovision!
Lena had a far better song than the sattelite when she competed second time and did not win. According to odds this have 40% chance of winning..um..LOL. It IS NOT happening. Again, LOL!!! Finland or Croatia is going to win.
I sincerely hope for the sake of your own sanity that you were joking that Croatia is winning the contest. The only thing those boomer clowns win is a participation award
…while hope for your sanity is all lost
the only right choice
I think the staging is the real hero here. The LED screens are gorgeous. For me personally the song isn’t special although I think Loreen is a great performer. The way she was acting at the after party seemed a bit arrogant tho.
do you have a link? Not challenging, just want to see it myself
https://www.tiktok.com/@markuslarssonfanclub/video/7209442876806204678?_r=1&_t=8aaMvnKEkMA The DJ said that they first had a misunderstanding and he didn’t realise Loreen wanted to sing her song once again. It then took him some time to get it on and you can hear her being quite rude. She then goes on to tell the DJ to put it louder but the DJ has said it was the tech people not him who could do that.
Love the song. Love the performance.
Curious about the negativity. I spend zero time thinking about the songs I don’t like. And I would never imagine commenting on then and try to bring others down..
The reason I love Eurovision is the amazing mix of genres and artistry. The fact that I this year love Sweden, France, Czech Republic, Austria, etc. Last year, that list was different. Next year it’ll be different. Why focus on an artist or song you don’t like? Honestly do not understand it.
It’s mostly the hardcore fans that does it. Sweden is considered the best at eurovision by a lot of fans, which means their entries are set at a very high standard. Expectations are higher for Sweden than for other eurovision countries. Thus, they recieve as much critisism as they recieve praise, even if comment sections on wiwibloggs might tell otherwise.
I appreciate your comment, and I understand exactly what you mean.
But, I just want to make clear that I actually am a hardcore fan. 🙂
Loving this contest doesn’t mean that you have to retort to spewing hate on any song/artist/country you don’t personally appreciate. I have a long list of songs this year that I don’t care for, I have no desire to go on forums and be negative about them.
Eurovision would be so much more fun if people enjoyed it for what it is.
I don’t have any statistics, but I’m fairly certain that the vast majority of people who watch eurovision enjoy it for what it is.
What I mean by hardcore fans is people who follow the national finals, talk about the entries in detail, song, lyrics, what fits, doesn’t fit, works, doesn’t work, compare them to other songs and entries and previous entries. The nitpicky ones.
Eurovision stopped being just about the song long ago. Now it’s about the overall package and what leaves the best impact.
I watched Melodifestivalen in Sweden with some friends who hate Eurovision on Saturday. Everyone talked during the whole show, but when Loreen came on, they were transfixed by her performance. Even though they didn’t care about the show, they were backing Loreen to win.
I think Europe will have the same response in May. Loreen brings a sense of familiarity to Europeans, we know her as the girl who sang Euphoria, but now she’s going to be known as the girl who won Eurovision twice.
Or woman.
O my god your story IS so clichéd. I suppose ur Friends are straight and after watching Loreen they Saw the light and became gay as well…
Jajajaja…
ª
What happened when you woke up?
CAN SOMEONE HELP ME OUT?……….. I really don’t give a thing about the pseudo ESC related sh….storm drama but I know that some people are really into it. Can someone explain the comment I found on youtube : “Swedish are acting spoiled and entitled to insult Croatia for their vote”……… What is this yet anothe pseudo drama about?
Explain something you read on YouTube? What is Next the formula for Coca cola?
The Croatian jury was the only jury not to give Loreen 12 points in the MelFest final. They gave it to Theoz instead
Probably feeling a bit threatened….
Don’t all come for me at once but this could be improved, it is not near the standard everyone makes out! The song is great and it progresses well, but Loreens diction in the final performance was so poor that I struggled to understand approx 80% of what she was singing.
It’s not the strongest of years, but this also is not the absolute saviour everyone is making out!
Oh my god yes. I had to replay it to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating. I listened to the studio version and it sounds great, but in the live version a lot of the lyrics are mushed together.
if Loreen doesn’t win with this masterpiece, they might as well just cancel the show
Don’t worry, no panic! She definitely will win very easily with this masterpiece. After the grand final live performances, you can go to sleep no worrying even without watching the voting. In the morning You will wake up and read the news that She have won!
In that case let’s just cancel it immediately
“masterpiece” must be the most cluelessly used word by eurofans ….
Guys, do you really like this song? I love Loreen, she is the best artist we’ve had, but Tattoo is just not for me. And, to be very honest, when she starts singing the chorus, surprisingly her voice sounds tired and forced for a few seconds. Anyway maybe I need to have my ears checked 🙂
It’s as if she is getting overpowered by the backing track. Way overproduced, need to dial some of that back and allow Loreen’s vocals to shine.
Her voice sounded briefly strained for a line or two, but so what, it fits the lyrics.
yes I actually really like the song and its not because its Loreen. I just really like this style of music and the performance is so good.
Not even close to being a winner. Loreen’s swansong.
I wonder if they’ll celebrate abba if loreen wins (it’s 50 years since they won the conquest)
49
Yeah, but 50 when/if Sweden host next year. At the very least I will demand ABBAtars as an interval.
“I love you, Loreen!” – Im so fab
“She’s winning easily, especially in this dry year” – Span
“I like it, very special” – Chupacabra
“Sweden is ready for their 7 th victory” – PP77
Just documenting the Loreen stans for when they get let down 😉
Go ahead, try cancelling me. I speak truth.
who are you to even cancel you?
Man, you could’ve just screenshot the comments and remind those guys in May, we didn’t need to know
Can you do the same for the ones supporting Finland? 😉 This is really stupid!
She has won, because she is known and was the winner 10 years ago. That is why juries gave their 12 points to her. The song is ordinary and I do not like it. And the polls do not guarantee her the victory.
Congratulations to Loreen. Johnny Logan’s record of winning Eurovision twice as a lead singer can now possibly be equalled. The next challenge will be how to re-do the “hamburger staging” for Liverpool and not tear down the roof of the arena.
I love this song soooo much but
I still can’t understand what she is singing
Good point! Gibberish, really.
She used so sing so clearly, now it’s weird some mumbling. Probably an artistic choice, a weird one.
Maybe she took inspiration from XXXTENTACION
I dont understand why Eurofans speak of Loreen as if she was god resurrected… She is a singer Who won Eurovision 10 years ago and that IS It. And dont get me Wrong horray for Loreen and horray for Tattoo but just one more entry and one more singer I dont see what is so amazingly awesome about Loreen.
I mean, she is good but the Finnish Guy IS good too, the Norwegian girl is good too, the Spanish one IS good too, the Czechia Girls are good too. I dont see what is better about Loreen than about the 4 I mentioned.
That’s called ‘having a favourite’
… for the Wrong reasons.
As a spaniard you have Blanca Paloma as favorite is it for the right or wrong reasons…
For the right ones… Evidenment!
True. She is not a singer songwriter so I don’t get why people are so obsessed with her. Just one winning song penned by others and people think she is an artist to be heavily praised and worshipped? She has a good voice though. I’ll give that to her.
She actually is a songwriter though. She wrote Tattoo..
And even if she does not write her songs.so what? Whitney Houston never wrote her songs either yet people praise her
She wrote Tattoo? Seems to be a lot of discussion about its originality
Yes she wrote it
She’s winning easily, especially in this dry year. Haters better start coping.
I think It is very stupid to label as “haters” those Who might not be so impressed about Loreen and her song. It is ok, you wet ur pants with Loreen but not everybody else has to do the same and that does not mean they are “haters”.
They are not haters, they can see that the emperor has no clothes on.
We are talking about Sweden, not Finland.
Literally
The year isn’t bad at all, stop capping smh
In a mediocre year full of young boy singers with dull pop ballads, this is a fresh breath. I love you Loreen!
What’s wrong with being a boy? There are 37 songs this year and literally two of them, Denmark and Switzerland, are ballads by “young boy singers”. Two.
Switzwrland, Greece, Cyprus,Denmark, Azerbaijan twins
I’ll agree on Greece, which I hadn’t heard when I posted but the Azerbaijan song hasn’t been released yet and Cyprus/Andrew is a grown man not a boy.
Im so fab was talking about genre balance and nothing else.
It is a bad song year but I wouldn’t call it the “Year of Young Boy Singers With Dull Ballads” as much as the “Year of Weird Pretending to be Great Art”.
actually you can very well find two songs inside tatoo. one by adele easy of me in the 2nd part song and one by ukraine in the first part. and finally in the final frozen stage of Madonna. Great job Loreen hahaah
Aren’t you tired of your sh!t? This comparison with Easy On Me is laughable. For Mika Newton’s song, there is indeed a part of the melody which is very similar but the notes still aren’t the same and it doesn’t correspond to the definition of plagiarism. Loreen and her team did nothing wrong, the song is perfectly valid 🙂 Don’t know where you want to go with your comment but it’s now time to turn this page.
points of view….I think it’s a democratic conversation….or not? How do I think if this song had been brought from any other country in the race it certainly wouldn’t be first in the winning bets…..but I repeat they are only points of view that someone will not consider right and someone will….. have a good life!
I think Madonna’s ‘Frozen’ is an influence on Loreen generally. ‘Frozen’ was influenced by a Moroccan film called ‘The Sheltering Sky’ and it’s all about icy deserts, sad love and spirituality. Loreen is ethnically Moroccan so maybe there’s some cross-over there.
Exactly! You can even hear Frozen strings in Tattoo c-part.
You can dissect any song and you will find similarities to other songs. Funny how there is such a focus on Tattoo.
I cannot believe Paul Rey only got 1 point!!
I couldn’t believe when he got 12 from one of the juries.
I wans’t surprised. His song, as generic as it is, is good jury bait. I’m actually surprised it wasn’t first or second with the juries
It’s basic and just a very loud woman (who can sing well) belting out 10 words
Description of yourself?
No you
You must be talking about Spain?
If Loreen hadn’t won last night, this comment section would have exploded with fans crying over her not winning. Loreen won, and there are so many comments here complaining about that she did win. Gotta love the positive Eurofan community
Ok, I know everyone has different opinions, but sometimes it gets funny seeing how much negativity there is in the Eurovision community
Let’s be honest. God himself could come down heaven on a gold cloud and pick the Contest winner and an hour later there would be 1000 comments here on the lines of “God’s taste sucks.”
I would not have chose God for the example as there should not be quite a lot of religious people in here but indeed, we get the point xD
That’s true. We can’t be satisfied :))
I thick UK will cause upset do very well song lot air play in Euope want won top 3 like last year can’t rule Ukraine to
What to expect from the remaining countries: Greece: listening to the snippets it’s just a generic song about self confidence and not listening to the bullies, it sounds quite wholesome, will probably qualify. Azerbaijan: apparently its something that represents their culture, I don’t know what to expect but I’m excited. Armenia: Brunettes music is mainly contemporary jazz Which I absolutely LOVEEE, heck I love it so much that I voted for Portugal in my first esc (2021). Rumours has it though that it’s a mix of pop and rap, I’m excited though and worried because it’s something Brunette has never… Read more »
I like it, very special, very solid, but not refrehing, nothing new. I think, in times of pressure, war, inflation, past-pandemia, climate change,. claustrophobic song won’t touch as intended.. ChaChaCha, Poe Poe Poe, and others will do better than expected, coz uplifting, whitty and special without LED performance boosters.
I would be objective: Although I liked Loreen’s previous songs; I didn’t like “Tattoo” song. Its lyrics are bland and average; its chorus is not memorable.
Music is not just expensive stagings for me and overhyping songs for the sake of their singers. The song is far from the quality of Euphoria.
Sweden is ready for their 7 th victory ( only depends if Ukraine win again in 2023 ,thanks only to politics like they did in 2016,2022)
My prediction for running order for I semi final
1.MAL
2.LAT
3.SRB
4.POR
5.IRE
6.NOR
7.CRO
8.MOL
9.CZE
10.NET
11.SWE
12.AZE
13.FIN
14.SWI
15.ISR
Hi, troll
A troll I don’t know but this guy appears every year only when it’s Sweden time and put always the same countries in his top…so predictable lol.
Whether you think it’s good or bad Loreen will get a good result …. Whether she can win the contest again remains to be seen
I have listened to “Tattoo” three times already, and I am yet unable to remember the chorus Loreen was singing about. Or the melody of the song itself, for that matter. I think success in Eurovision is linked a lot to first impressions: 1) if the audience can mimic the song the first time they hear it, and 2) if the song will stick after the next performance is done. Obviously, that is not always the case (Greece in 2022 finished in 8th place without a memorable chorus), but this facto certainly can elevate things. I have tried to look… Read more »
Agreed. I keep forgetting how it goes and somehow end up singing “Statements” instead.
I couldn’t even catchy the lyrics; Loreen sang the song as if she had to catch the bus :/
I can actually see most of the songs on your list at the final
No surprise here and I guess we can already predict that she will be jury winner in May. Tbh, I think the performance is impressive but the song isn’t as strong as Euphoria was. Overall, it feels to me that at that time Euphoria was something really sensational, while this is less so. But this will undoubtedly do well.
A masterpiece, fantastic, amazing song, 12 points and finally Eurovision 2024 Stockholm (or other city, TBD). Congrats on the triumph of the Swedish music industry. Since the Eurovision winner is already clear, this year the contest may be skipped, not held at all, just shift to Sweden for the next year.
hahahahahaha
After all, why spending so much money for something we already know the result 2 months before
Comments like this makes me wanna see Sweden NOT winning ESC, no matter the song.
And comments like that just proves the anti Sweden bias on this site and no matter what gets sent you all will hate it euther way.
So much for being the nicest fandom around…
I will be honest.
Without this stage, the song is ordinary and quickly forgettable, she probably won’t have this stage in Liverpool, I wonder what the results will be, because this stage gives the song “something more”. Although we have already seen a similar stage at Eurovision (in the video of the Czech representative in 2021).
Where is the originality?
Not in your comment at least
Did he (Czech 2021) lay on the ground or using his hand to lift up the second led screen lmao, at this point they would say anything to make they sleep well at night
The day after last years Swedish final with Cornelia Jacobs winning I was sure we were going to Sweden this year, she ‘only’ ended fourth in ESC, something that still wonders me. One never knows. Maybe alot of jury-members will agree with fans who see «Tattoo» as a bland copy of «Euphoria»? Maybe they agree with those who thinks this is the full package in every way? Maybe it will be a mixture, and if so: is that enough to win? Will the public watching the final be disappointed it’s not a new «Euphoria» and not vote for it, even… Read more »
For me, Loreen deserves a good result – maybe Top 3 – but not the win. In any case I prefer Tattoo over Hold me closer.
90 % of viewers probably will not know about Euphoria . A whole new generation out there
And why would juries care about Euphoria? Their job is to compare it to the other competing songs
90 % of viewers probably will not know about Euphoria.
Are you sure?
I think it is both a jury and public pleaser especially in such a weak year. Unfortunately the excitement this year is who will be 2nd
Tattoo is mediocre at best.. nothing special, she is barefoot again (she did that), she has minimal staging (done that), weird hand gestures (done that) and I dare to say she is screaming again with none clear signs of singing..
She is repeating herself a lot..
And you’re probably repeating same bad comment as in 2012… We send love to you from Sweden ??
What a nonsense reply. How could he repeat a comment from 2012 which complained about repeating things from 2012?
I agree, your reply is nonsens. Nevertheless you still deserve all love in the world.
Sure, I was here in 2012 and posting bad things about her.. right.. grow up darlin’..
I love Euphoria, but this is all over again the same..
And your comment is same as before. Still Sweden only sends love to you and peace.
Hahahaha.. you make me laugh.. Peace and love to you too..
The thing is: we in the fandom are all comparing this to Euphoria, but how many people outside of the fandom will actually remember that even existed? And there’s no denying this is an impressive performance. Juries will also eat this up
Nooo euphoria is known to the general public
She does use a lot of chest voice, indeed almost screaming. Is she would tone it down a nodge it would be more interesting
Definitely agreed on this one..
« Minimal staging » just a 1.8tonnes screen platform but ok
It is minimal.. nothing special for me..
I’m not sure I’d call a gigantic Panini Press minimal. The staging looks spectacular on TV and will stand out from everything else.
She won’t use this staging in Liverpool!!!
Love it!
I just don’t get the hype around this song. I’ve tried to listen to it several times but I still don’t remember the melody. Loreen is stuck in her euphoria times and she isn’t bringing anything new to the Eurovision stage. I don’t think anyone can pull Jhonny Logans anymore.
Our Käärijä is the only choice to win ?
Anything but the Käärijä entry!
Is Loreen stuck or are you stuck in 2012 talking about Euphoria? All love to you from Sweden ??
I would loved to have pulled Johnny Logan back in the day ?
I dont recognize the lyrics She sings in english.
It won, but actually a small margin in Sweden.
Only issue is tattoo is made for Eurovision fans, it’s produced on a mediocre song, with everything in the act and vision. It’s professional, nothing unique in it. The same producers and acter could do it over next year. I think unique and good should win. Finland, Norway, Austria even.
Just don’t let it fool ya, this is a million dollar production professional in every way, and they can do that again and again….
How is Norway unique? What about that song and performance hasn’t been done to death before?
Mixing pop, with viking age feeling, and a throw in of high end voice and a compelling addictive chorus, unique is maybe too much, but it has compelling attributes.
It has certain small attributes to it that sets it apart from being a full out regular schlager song, I’ll give you that.
As for Austria, they are different, but different isn’t alwats good. I mean, come on, their song title is just laughable.
I do, however, agree about Finland.
Mixing pop with viking is what Denmark did already in 2018 and much more authentic to that.
This is what someone from Italy or somewhere thinks viking pop sounds like. It is viking in the same way KeeiNo was Sami..
Bold of you to trash other countries when Sweden basically does the same formula over and over again.
Trash other countries? I was merely expressing my agreements and disagreements with one of the writers. Sweden isn’t the only country that “sends the same formula”, by the way. Pop music and schlager music are long engrained in the swedish culture, so it makes sense that a lot of swedes like it and that it’s the main focus in the swedish music industry. The swedes vote for what they like just as all other national slections. It isn’t the same thing every time either. The Mamas, Cornelia and Loreen being female artists which fans have been nagging about for years.… Read more »
I will keep saying it but Loreen is a phenomenal performer, her voice is stunning and her stage presence is incredible but the song does absolutely nothing for me, I hope this isn’t our clear winner as it would be really disappointing.
Unfortunately I think this will be the clear winner but hopefully I am wrong.
Despite the odds, I don’t think this has the unquestionable winner vibe that Stefania or Arcade had. I wouldn’t be surprised if a “dark horse” won this year. Could be Spain, could be Finland, could even be Slovenia.
Or Armenia
If at some points the odds reach an abysmal 50%, I’m really pessimistic that they’ll also dictate the final result in May. We all want “dark horses” to win this time. Let this be the first tike since 2018 that the winner’s odds were wrong at their guess.
Up for Slovenia! Grows on me week by week! Let’s make way for Slovenia! Greetings from Norway
“Grows on me week by week!” 90% of ESC voters in final will at best listen to the song 1 time during the show. Another 5% might remember it from a respective semifinal.
I love them so much! To be honest, it wasn’t until seeing their live performance that I really saw it for the Brit-Pop banger it is. They’ll do really well this year. Would love to see them win. Would be equally happy with Finland or Spain or Czechia.
How about Austria?
It’s already legendary. Eurofans will be talking about that song for years. Easy Top 10 finish.
I love Loreen but this song is just not there. I hope she will be second.
