Lord of the Lost will represent Germany at Eurovision 2023 with the song “Blood & Glitter”.

Germany has chosen a new, bolder approach to this year’s song contest by the hands of this gothic  glam metal group, all in hopes of turning their luck and finding their way up the scoreboard in a flurry of pyro, growling, and exuberance.

Let’s see what Lord of the Lost has to offer!

Scroll down to read the “Blood & Glitter” lyrics.

Germany at Eurovision 2023: Lord of the Lost with “Blood & Glitter”

This musical project was formed in 2007 by Chris Harms, originally under the name of Lord, but then changing it to the current name to avoid possible copyright disputes against the German band The Lords, and a Finnish band you probably have heard of before.

After a slew of albums and ever-rising places on the charts, they’ve slowly gained much recognition, including being personally picked twice by Iron Maiden to support them on the European legs of their 2022 and 2023 world tours.

In 2022, they dropped their most recent album Blood & Glitter by surprise, months before it was originally scheduled. Despite this, and the lack of promotion, it managed to go all the way to number one on the German charts, their first-ever album to do so.

They entered with the eponymous lead single to Unser Lied für Liverpool, smashing the televote and earning the right to represent Germany in Eurovision.

What do the “Blood and Glitter” lyrics mean?

Tenderness and roughness. Two polar opposites, yet sides of the same coin. “Blood & Glitter” elaborates on how we as humans possess a depth of characteristics, qualities, and flaws that makes us whole. That is a cause of celebration and the feeling that fuels our life.

It doesn’t come with obstacles or disappointments — “we do fall before we rise” — but when we reach that, we’ll see it’s a bliss worth striving for — “we’re so happy we could die”.

Lord of the Lost — “Blood & Glitter” lyrics (Germany Eurovision 2023)

Blood and glitter
Sweet and bitter
We’re so happy we could die

Blood and glitter

What we are is but a choice
A promise to ourselves
We are free to break and change

Never forget? Let it go
This or that? No need to know
Whether above or below
We are all from the same blood

Blood and glitter
Sweet and bitter
We’re so happy we could die

Blood and glitter
Sweet and bitter
We’re so happy we could die

Blood and glitter
Saint and sinner
We do fall before we rise

Now go, go
Let your blood flow, flow
With broken wings, we’ll learn to fly
We are blood and glitter

Keep your head up in the clouds
With two feet on the ground
Life’s too fast so make it count

Never forget? Let it go
This or that? No need to know
Whether above or below
We are all from the same blood

Blood and glitter
Sweet and bitter
We’re so happy we could die

Blood and glitter
Saint and sinner
We do fall before we rise

Now go, go
Let your blood flow, flow
With broken wings, we’ll learn to fly
We are blood and glitter

Let your blood flow
Blood and glitter
Let your blood flow

Blood and glitter
Sweet and bitter
We’re so happy we could die

Blood and glitter
Sweet and bitter
We’re so happy we could die

Blood and glitter
Saint and sinner
We do fall before we rise

Now go, go
Let your blood flow, flow
With broken wings, we’ll learn to fly
We are blood and glitter
Blood and glitter

Hopefully they´ll win. If not them, who will stand for variety, diversity, openness and trueness. Check out their song and video catalogue. Its worth it. Guess what? I´m a great fan of them 😉

For their impossible talent, for how extraordinary genuine they are as people and for making this world so much better for so many of us they should come among the very top acts.
This song encompasses what Eurovision is all about, us as human beings, all the same, yet all at the same time uniquely ourselves, and here forever united in music.

My #1 entry this year, and I think chances are godd that it can get a very healthy final placing in Liverpool.

Sorry, getting TOP 5 vibes from this!????? All metalheads and Goths will unite, and probably you will be disappointed to see a song you dislike so much being so high on the left side of the scoreboard! LOTL are a wonderful band full of incredibly talented musicians and lovely people.??

Lord Of The Lost have such a fantastic array of songs about current issues; I hugely admire their work. I’m going to try to put my fanboy mode aside though and focus on this ESC song, which I don’t know much about. Here goes… I love lyrics that have a message, and yet are also open to many interpretations. I have seen it suggested that the lyrics of “Blood and Glitter” are about life, money and fame: “we do fall before we rise” certainly matches the band’s journey to fame very accurately. However, taking into account that the band are… Read more »

Never thought of them as «glam rock» though. To me it’s industrial metal wich I always liked so much. Their song «Lorelei» has always been a definition as one of the best industrial anthems to me.
My top 3, maybe a winner ))!

Thanks, yeah I can feel heavy metal too, and some gothic as well. That clear bass vocal tone too, just wow. There are so many things I love about this sound! I really hope LOTL spring a big surprise in the final.

Could it be about bipolar disorder? Or scaling down from that, just the everyday ups and downs that everybody faces.

Indeed, the song could be interpreted that way. 🙂
