Georgia hasn’t seen a Eurovision final since 2016. But this year, The Voice of Georgia winner Iru is hoping to change the country’s faith with her song “Echo”. Ahead of the competition kicking off in Liverpool, we caught up with Iru on the blue carpet at the Barcelona Eurovision Party.Donning a stylish white pantsuit and a bold red lip, Iru was excited to talk to us during her first ever visit to Spain. She discussed the love she had gotten ever since releasing her track.

Iru said: “Well, I sing about love. So I’m super happy that everybody showed me the love, you know. I’m happy and I’m so excited. I actually watched your reaction and everybody’s reactions. Oh my god, it was so nice!”

The former Junior Eurovision winner shared her excitement to be part of the wider Eurovision community of artists.

She told us: “I’m so excited. I’ve met a couple of contestants, like Lithuania. I had a chat with her. She is so nice, she’s so pretty. She’s gorgeous.”

“I’m so excited” — Georgia’s Iru on Eurovision 2023 plans

Now, Iru is hard at work focussing on perfecting her plans for Liverpool. She said: “Ready is a big word! I’m definitely excited and I’m getting ready. I’m in this process of just like doing everything, so yeah.”

Iru’s Eurovision 2023 entry “Echo” is one of the loudest and most unique songs in this year’s competition, combining Georgian folk elements with modern pop music. She described singing the song as a challnge.

“It actually is really difficult, because I have to like sing in a high registry all the time. I’m never coming down!”

you know what I just realized? I think this is the first time that Lithuania and Georgia are competing in the same semifinal since 2016. I’ll have to double check my statistics to see if I’m correct with this claim.

Excellent voice from a young lady. I wish Georgia good luck and hope they qualify this year. They deserve it after such a long slump.
