Liverpool is gearing up for this year’s Eurovision next month, and one of the early highlights is the opening ceremony at the Turquoise Carpet and welcome party on Sunday 7 May beginning at 15:00 BST.

The stars of Eurovision 2023 will begin their walk down the Turquoise Carpet at the Walker Art Gallery and make their way down to the main steps of St. George’s Hall, where the official opening ceremony will take place.

People from the accredited press and fan media will line one side of the carpet and members of the OGAE clubs will have an opportunity to line the other side. Around 800 free tickets are available for OGAE members, who will get a chance to get up and close to this year’s artists.

The tickets will also give access to the National Lottery Party that will kick off in front of St. George’s Hall at 20:00. Ordinarily, tickets for this party, the largest event planned for Eurovision week with an audience of 30,000, were only available to UK National Lottery players, so this is an opportunity for non-UK residents to attend. The 90-minute show will be a spectacular kick-off for Eurovision week and will be a celebration of all things Liverpudlian.

Will you be in Liverpool for the opening ceremony? And will you be at the welcome party as well? Let us know in the comments below.

That’s great!! So good to see fans in the carpet event, i believe it was media and fans with accreditation before. It would be amazing seeing all the fans with flags supporting the artists.

On an unrelated note, have you seen the BBCs ranking of the Eurovision songs? I know the news department is separate from the Eurovision one but should they really be ranking their own competition ?

Thank God the partnership with Moroccanoil ends next year, I’m done with how that partnership must reflect on opening ceremony carpet. Just let it be red as it always has been.

A nice touch to include OGAE members, is this a first?

Why the special treatment? It should be open to everyone.

I don’t know why Jonas, but it’s still better than no access to anyone but accredited personnel.

It would look better on camera with more people. The whole thing is about hype building, so I don’t understand the restrictions. Oh, well.

Or maybe join your local OGAE, they’re a great space to connect with other fans

No it cannot be open to anyone, there’s no capacity. So it’s good to see OGAE fans getting the chance to be there.
