Liverpool will host 37 countries at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, but there can only be one winner. The Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — has now determined who they think the victor should be. We’ve ranked each of the acts from Eurovision 2023 and written our own reviews. It’s hard work being honest, but somebody has to do it.
Our jury consists of 20 jurors who hail from Australia, Bulgaria, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Israel, Netherlands, Romania, Spain, United Kingdom and United States. We are truly international, y’all!
Each juror assesses each song independently and then awards the entry a score from 1 to 10. The highest and lowest scores are dropped before determining the Wiwi Jury average.
Scores and reviews were done in March 2023, based on available versions of the songs at that time. As always, Wiwi Jury reviews will not be changed to reflect new information from pre-party performances or the Eurovision rehearsals.

tell me more is so underrated
I think it’s interesting that in the wiwibloggs reviews of songs RON awarded Finland 3 and SWEDEN 9.5
So it’s pretty clear RON doesn’t know what’s he is doing
Get rid of the Mel voiceovers, extremely irritating and totally unnecessary, spoiling the whole thing, not needed, bad decision on organisers, just need Graham tho Hannah Waddington is amazing!
Apologies for arriving late at the party, but have these scores actually been filmed as I cannot recall any jury uploads being released.
Loreen wins in the Eurovision bubble, but I think televoters, who will all be told she’s a former winner, will want to give someone else a chance. That’s how it works in these shows, hence the recent dire showing by host nations.
Funny thing I noticed: the way the rankings turned out this year, all of the automatic qualifiers are in the top 26, and exactly 5 acts from Semi 1 and 6 acts from Semi 2 are in the bottom 11. Basically, this could potentially be the final results
I am pleased with Mae’s ranking. Seems she is top 10 in this, OGAE and euro jury too!
Yeh……like that went well. Everybody was judging the official cut. The live vocals killed this song .
Armenia and Estonia underrated
Most ovrrrated: Sweden, Norway, UK, Serbia
Most underrated: Portugal, Germany, Croatia, Romania
Right about the UK……well spotted.
So what’s are the top 5?? Some countries are missing in the final list.
As of today, we can safely say this is THE PERFECT TOP 3 FOR EUROVISION 2023! If only it could stay like this after tomorrow…
I’m happy to see Latvia is way higher than the odds. It is such a criminally underrated song <3
Such a shame loreen will win just because it’s loreen and not because of the actual song. Douze points to Finland!!! ???? Cha Cha Cha!!!
really? did alexander rybak win in 2018 because it’s alexander rybak?
No because his song was rubbish and fortunately it didn’t win! I also don’t think you can compare loreen with Alexander Rybak within the Eurovision commmunity
He did not, but he was also not put in a superstar role by the fandom
Spain should be second from bottom not runner up at the moment!
Iceland at 10???? Incomprehensible…should be 30th
Austria enters 1st, as it should be.
Ukraine’s song just isn’t good, okay. They’ve had their sympathy win, so can we please have a song contest now?
I like Ukraines song. You can speak for yourself.
Does it deserve to win though? Hardly, compared to others.
The top 2 on this list so far are hilariously overrated.
Are you planning also wiwi jury youtube videos?
I think Ukraine will win the televote again but by narrow margin and the jury will make sure not to put them high in rankings to prevent Ukraine winning again (Ukraine winning second year in a row would only reflect negatively on the EBU). Sweden or Spain might win the jury votes…. It’s difficult to predict anything else, but at the end I can only see Finland winning the whole thing. I even started to believe Croatia (my own country, I’ve finally accepted the chosen song and admited it’s decent entry) could end up 2nd in the televote just like… Read more »
Idk, in Junior Eurovision, Ukraine didn’t do that well. Maybe their train is slowing down and Tvorchi will receive a high mid to low score. I’m thinking 12th-17th maybe.
Ukraine this high on the list is a joke.
Ukraine and Denmark above Armenia? Estonia second last out of 13, below even Albania and Malta? I’m just waiting for San Marino to top the rankings ???
Wiwiblogs as always try to have interesting taste and again so disconnected from the Eurovision fans.
Moldova in front of Italy ???????
Wiwi skews heavily towards team banger over team ballad.
I can’t wait for another:
“Masterpiece. Best song I’ve heard in years. I can’t stop singing it. I’m listening to it on repeat for months.”
Well, wiwi jury are just a bit more unpredictable and diverse than OGAE… but it’s not too much of a compliment. So, my prediciton:
36.San Marino 4.1
Oh dear ESC Serg, I fear that Israel and / or Norway won’t even make the final. I’ll be pleased for them if I’m wrong.
My top 5 haven’t changed from Malta
1st United Kingdom
Never been a fan of the UK song but have you seen her “performances”? Man she must be tone deaf and moves with the grace of a 2 left footed boxer
Or maybe she’s having a great time and will aim to refine her performance for the final.
I admire but don’t share your optimism.
She may want to revise plans for an ad hoc solo at the end.. lol. At least she has got rid of the pitched up note at the end of the rap. 🙂
I have seen her live a couple of times and her vocals were heavily covered up by the backing track…you couldn’t even make a judgement on whether she was any good. Looking at the pre-parties, I would suggest fairly poor.
Can’t wait for UK to finish bottom 5. Its a cheap song, she looks cheap, dance is cheap. Cheap, cheap.
Another Gemini in the making
What, Portugal 1978 Gemini? They were a respectable 17th. Or do you mean Jemini?
I’m from the UK and I agree with you wholeheartedly. It is such a cheap throwaway song that unfortunately litters up the UK charts.
The UK……cheap, tacky and could be in the UK singles chart. By the way, that’s not a good thing.
Everyone knows that the juries will vote heavily for Sweden – as usual – and will kill off any chance Finland has (as they did for Keino for Norway.) Even though, shall we say, the Swedish entry is very, very familiar. So probably will be Stockholm for Abba’s 50th anniversary of winning next year.
It’s a trainwreck of a song, but juries will be juries…
I really hope not, but the chances the juries don’t hypervote for Sweden are low…. Still, I think “Tattoo” will be the televote flop (or at least lower left on the board) and that might compensate for Finland’s lower jury votes… As I always point out, Loreen won the televote in 2012 by margin of only 11 points ahead of Babushki – and let’s face it, “Tattoo” is nowhere near “Euphoria”…. And not to be forgotten: the whole stack of televotes will once again go to Ukraine
Stockholm for Abba’s 50th anniversary, I hadn’t thought of that. What a great moment that would be.
The wiwi lot are a plague on the contest. They always go for the gay baiting songs – Je Me Casse for example- and always skew the betting odds for such entries.
It’s literally a few people’s opinions, hardly an ability to skew the betting odds.
Bookies follow polls and prominent sites to determine the odds. Je Me Casse being an example.of how a mediocre song can be artificially hyped.
Maybe don’t take it all too seriously, it’s just a song contest
Bookies are overrated.
It’s all for fun. And who the hell actually cares about the bookies?
Je Me Casse won her semi fyi
You know the excitement for Eurovision is real when it’s Wiwi Jury time! Always enjoy everyone’s reviews/opinions on things. Just keep it civil though lads, ok?
As usual, far more interested in how the songs are rated in the comments section rather than by the jury themselves.
It should be fun! I’ll just write some basic ones as I haven’t really had the time and my ranking/rating is even less solid than in other years.
I can already tell Slovenia will be underappreciated because it’s low in bookies, but for me it’s this years winner in a sense I’m already listening to their other songs.
After live performances, and the feedback from the audience I think that Croatia, Austria and Finland are big big contenders to do very well with televote! And I would love to see it. My top three favorite.
the big contenders are Georgia, Denmark, Netherlands with San Marino as a dark horse
Georgia, yes, definitely. But Denmark, Netherlands, and San Marino, emmm… I think they are struggling to qualify.
Haha yeah got your humor, wish other got the memo 😀
Finland not in Madrid performance. He was now off key, sounded too over enertic or exhausted.
No daily digest on Sunday? 🙁
The gayest bop came from Poland, but ironically gays publicly reject it while secretly enjoying it. She may destroy the televote tbh.
just a lame wannabe summer song unauthentic piece of plastic trash, not a gaybop either considering she is homophobic
And considering you are a hater …. You know her personally to say that shes homophobic ????
she has been liking anti-jann homophobic messages on social media, that is proof enough, i think
btw Vote Netherlands
I’m surprised that she might be homophobic but then again, I’m not. I don’t like branding people so are sure she is?
To be fair, i wouldn’t be surprised if her social media manager simply liked every single message saying “you’re good” or “you deserved to win” without reading the whole thing. But she never commented on that i’m pretty sure do it’s on her that she doesn’t defend herself.
Poland is one of the worst trash ever at ESC and me too I don´t like her at all.
I mean, song itself is nice. But it’s all autotune. She can’t really perform it live. If it was music video contest, i can see your argument. But nah
Wiwi jury Top 5 prediction: Sweden, Finland, Norway, Spain, Israel
Nice prediction! Seems like Austria will also be in the mix 🙂
Thank you Wiwi Jury. Welcome to everyone.
From me, there will be some reviews in this year’s edition that are joyfully detailed, and others that simply read as: “This music is not to my taste.” There will also be no scoring from me, since this really upset some important people many years ago who didn’t seem to realise this was meant to be fun. Disclaimer completed.
I managed to write reviews to my favorite songs, but since I don’t have as much free time as I had in previous years, the bottom of my ranking may get some very short ones too… A spoiler of the “running order” would be very helpful, but I guess the mystery is part of the fun.
In any case, I hope everybody has a great time during WiwiJury season. Let’s remember that taste is subjective and each artist is doing their best. No need to be disrespectful to them or to those reviewing songs here (both Wiwi members and readers/commenters).
Last year, I wrote most of my reviews before the Wiwi Jury. This year, I didn’t. However, I think I’ll have just enough time to write each on the day they come out, and “finalize” my pre-show rating then. I already have an idea where most of them are, but there are those which are tougher to rank. Spoiler alert, I hope that the running order keeps France, Netherlands, Belgium, Albania, Greece, and Switzerland as late as possible. 😉
I’ve already written my reviews and I also have some really detailed ones and some less detailed for songs that are just mediocre or below average (eg Denmark that just premiered). I never managed to give scores to songs out of 10 so I am always giving alongside my review the place of the song in my personal top 37. Looking forward to the entire Jury!
2023 Serbia may find the same fate as 2019 Portugal. High concept and loved by the Eurovision bubble for being quirky and experimental. The thing to save Serbia is that it’s televote only in the SF’s.
“Telemóveis” was one of the most interesting songs ESC had over the last 10 years, but I couldn’t stand its microtonal sound. To this day, it was the only ESC song that made me feel physically sick. However, years afterwards I heard a performance that Conan gave of the song re-tuned, and it was really beautiful. It made me realise how sensitive I am to tuning.
Telemoveis is a masterpiece, different, weird, but addictive. Perhaps from an purely artistic or mainstream music point of view, it is not a masterpiece, but I looove the creativity behind it, the mix of elements, music styles, choreography. Still haunted. One of the very very few Portuguese entries I love!
Serbia’s song is experimental, but it also has a comercial value, which wasn’t the case with that Portugese song, so your comparison is wrong by default
hope so, Luke deserves to nq so badly, serbia needs to learn to send fully english songs again 😉
No, Serbia doesn´t need that.
Serbia won with a full song in Serbian!
Look at what happened in Zagreb and think again.
So big was the bag, that they used pieces of it to put over their heads in the video. 😛
I do enjoy Wiwi Jury season!
I am sad to say though that I don’t see this as a vintage year. There is a whole lot of songs where it actually felt like a chore to write some words. It’s not that I hate the songs, just that there’s a lot of songs that are actually not really worth writing much about, and that is a shame. I do hope that a lot of songs surprise me when we get to the contest.
Eurovision IS to gays what football IS to straights but Eurovision hooligans are much more dangerous.
I’m so ready for Israel to be diabolically overrated
And so it begins. I wonder if they’re gonna do video reviews as well as print reviews. I know they didn’t do video views last year because William had to take care of his family I think. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Is that a Babylon 5 reference? (Don’t worry if not.)
Now seems like a perfect time for me to also share, after a month has passed since the last time, my complete TOP 37 of the “Eurovision Song Contest 2023” (updated, after “Pre Party Es2023”): *1. Austria – “Who The Hell Is Edgar?” (10/10)* 2. Finland – “Cha Cha Cha” (10/10) 3. France – “Évidemment” (10/10) 4. Spain – “EaEa” (10/10) 5. Armenia – “Future Lover” (10/10) 6. Georgia – “Echo” (9.5/10) (-0.5) 7. Serbia – “Samo Mi Se Spava” (9.5/10) 8. Germany – “Blood And Glitter” (9.5/10) 9. Portugal – “Ai Coração” (9.5/10) 10. Czechia – “My Sister’s Crown”… Read more »
We have the exact same top 4 llol
Just copy and paste what was said in 2012
NO offense to the “wiwi jury” – But you are majorly skewed toward “gay” type upbeat, funk, party songs, or scantily clad women. Not actual songs.
For real. Watch Gustaph scoring a top-10, Israel following up close and Loreen sweeping the competition in those rankings.
Gustaph and Loreen are the two most non gay clichés you could think of?
Loreen may not be scantily clad on stage (admittedly, I made a mistake) but will still top these rankings with almost perfect scores because of past winner bias.
That IS true and i am gay and i know what you mean by “gay” type upbeat. It is sad because we gays are a cliché. At least the Eurovision ones.
So scantily clad men might as well forget it
My respect for William’s opinions stems largely from his high score for Portugal in 2017. He and a few others on the jury recognised that song was special.
But most of the jury didn’t, likely for the reasons you describe. As a result the average score was 6.5ish, placing the song midtable, and meaning the wiwi jury completely failed to identify a serious contender and eventual winner of the contest.
The only exact score I can say that I actually remember from last year was a 1/10 for Portugal from a guy named Pablo, and I only remember it since it was so hilariously ridiculous, having the audacity to give a 1 to a certified all-time great entry, spelling out TASTELESSNESS in capital letters basically…
Problem with Eurovision IS that most gays dont have any sense of humor.
You’re right. I haven’t laughed since Lill Lindfors did that thing with her frock in 1985.
Who IS that?
Well, you can search for her on YouTube.
Lill Lindfors was the host of te eurovision songcontest in 1985
I’m gay and i confirm i have no sense of humour
Thank you, Wiwi Jury, I’m looking forward to this! It’s important to highlight how I respect ALL of the artists, and I realize that a lot of effort was invested in their songs. These ratings will reflect only my *personal* opinion on the songs and performances *at this point*, and I’m ready to be pleasantly surprised by anyone in May. All the best to all the 37 acts, songwriters, their delegations, and fans.
Oh, you’ve just met Colin. This is how he writes ALL THE TIME. Annoying, I know. You should see how inaccurately he analyzed his country’s NF entries because of his writing style…
Anyway, yeah. Colin… *roll eyes*
Hoping for some surprises… And not just a pure reflection of how the betting odds are standing right now.
