The time has almost come. In two weeks, we will crown the Eurovision 2023 champion in Liverpool. One of this year’s 37 acts will walk away with the trophy and a place in the contest’s history books.

But before we dive into rehearsals, it’s time to see who our readers are rooting for. Once all the competing songs had been released, we asked you to vote for your favourites. And vote you did — we received an enormous 37,838 votes in total.

After tallying everything up, we are now in a position to reveal the results.

Finland’s Käärijä a favourite to win Eurovision 2023 before rehearsals

It’s crazy, it’s party! Much like every other poll he’s featured in, Käärijä once again emerges as our readers’ pre-rehearsal favourite. The pina coladas will be flowing when the Finnish star takes to the stage, with many fans thinking he could be the one to give Finland their second Eurovision victory.

“Cha Cha Cha” earned 16.81% of the vote, which is 6,362 votes.

Eurovision 2012 champion Loreen is used to winning. But in this poll, the Swedish star finds herself in second place. Soon we’ll find out exactly how much the Swedish delegation have had to change Loreen’s staging from what we saw at Melodifestivalen. But for now, she remains a strong contender for the crown.

“Tattoo” secured 5,712 votes — 15.10% of all those cast.

Well I’m no fan of comedyacts like Finland Eurovision – since it’s supposed to be a competition of music. Besides Finlands entry is a total rip off of the 13 year old LMFAO-song ”Shots”

I think this is wrong that Sweden/Loreen should be hated by Eurovision fans. just because she already won, people don’t seem to realize this is a competition, last year people said they didn’t like Ukraine to win just because of the war. and that they said they wanted it to be fair this year. but now it’s not fair because everyone complains about the lore and her performance, I see so many people trying to disqualify her, just because her song sounds like another one for a little while. but has no one thought of Finland’s song? it sounds like,… Read more »

My top five :
1. Slovenia
2. Serbia
3. Finland
4. Latvia
5. Portugal
I know this is a heavily biased ranking. If you’re wondering where Sweden is, it sits firmly in my eighth place.

I’m definitely surprised to see Germany and Israel so far up the list – but I think the main takeaway is what we knew already. It’s a two horse race.

So, every metric has Sweden winning, and people on this site complain. Then a wiwibloggs poll (which is usually inaccurate nonsense) has Finland winning, and everyone is cool with that?

More power to you if you want it to win. But let’s not pretend there’s a battle for victory here. Sweden are going to win. And no, I’m not a Loreen “Stan”. Australia and Estonia are my easy top 2 this year.

But I haven’t been wrong on a winner since 2011, so I’ve learned to trust my judgment.

Usually the songs that stuck in your mind are the most successful. All of these are opinion – lots of factors are at play especially staging too.

If Europe want different, Kaarija for the win.
I absolutely love both and happy if either win.

I’m not ready for another novelty song to win the ESC yet.
Neither do I want Sweden to win. (Loreen is much better than her cliche-ridden song)
So I am hoping someone else will sail through to win instead and keep the voting sequence exciting.
France and Switzerland are my personal faves this year.

It’s interesting to see that across all platforms and polls, and bookies and fan ratings, there is a relatively clear consensus that breaks up this year’s entries into four main groupings: a top tier of two songs and a strong top ten; followed by a large decent middle, and a large below average bottom, both of which have about eleven or twelve songs in them.

You’re looking at the past with nostalgic rose-tinted glasses. Eurovision had fun entries in the 70s and 80s, as it does now.

There’s also nothing enlightened about diminishing acts like Kaarija’s. Frankly, it’s just ignorant to his and his team’s hard work, thoughtfulness and creativity.

Henry

Hard work and creativity in which fields? Outfit? Choreography? Fair enough. The song is basic. A countless copy and paste of the same short hook, endlessly until 3 minutes are filled up. To call this a song is a massive overstatement to begin with.

Jimmy
Jimmy

Reply to  Henry

It certainly is a song, whether you refuse to see it or not.

The song is cleverly constructed, with distinct thoughtful verses and a chorus that has a nice hook. It leans heavily into music hall and folk/public house music. Look at the performance of “Oom-Pah-Pah” in the musical Oliver! for example.

Henry

OK I will climb the Himalayas of fairness. There are two hooks, the mediocre “Cha-cha-cha, cha-cha-cha-cha !!” dragging on through the first half of the song, either shouted out or played in the background, and the second hook, which forms the second half of the song. It’s like giving you a plate with coutless carrot sticks covering one half and brussels sprouts covering the other half, and claiming that this represents a super-advanced level of cooking.

Striving for fairness shouldn’t feel like climbing the Himalayas.

It’s an interesting, anguished expression. Do you use it regularly? Did you learn the phrase from parents/a source or come up with it yourself?

If I can give my opinion, I think Sweden has the highest chance to win it all. High chance of finishing 1st with juries and still in top 3 with public. Finland could win public but out of top 5 with juries. France and Spain COULD be top 3 juries but both of them will struggle to be in the top 3 public because you know, there are a lot of bangers this year with a huge appeal like Austria and Israel (yeah yeah Israel). Of course, not everyone like bangers (thx god) so I guess a “classy” song can… Read more »
