Kudos to Finland for staying consistent, and omg I’m so excited for Malta and Latvia, who seem to have a chance to make it through after all! 😀

True, Finland is consistent and improving. Who knows! #teamfinland

Also, I too believe Malta and Latvia will qualify. Latvia is too good to stay in the semi, and Malta is sweet and fun.

They might take the place of Serbia (looove the song but televote friendly? not sure yet) and Portugal (sorry, I can’t relate to the song, nor did I see something impressive on stage).

Well said, she did not look good and perform well. However, we must not be harsh on artists. eurovision is a great deal, months upon months of preparation, they are humans, too, who may get tired or have their ups and downs. Alessandra and Loreen looked the same to me, not well or enjoying it. I wish them speedy recovery and perhaps they save powers for the real thing!

Are we just witnessing a new trend with visuals? Artists appearing in the LED visuals. After Greece and Croatia, Czechia, Israel and Finland (shadow yes), too. Is that a new trend to make a connection with the artists?

Soooo excited! Now, we are talking Eurovision! NORWAY something is off? Can’t tell what. —– MALTA this might actually qualify, sweet and fun ++ SERBIA dark as it should be, well done! ++++ LATVIA love it, well performed and staged! Not sure if it will qualify ++++ PORTUGAL no offence, don’t like it, looks empty —– IRELAND cute but not memorable + CROATIA my God, can’t decide if it will go through. It has catchy elements but many parts of the performance are cringy to say the least. —– SWITZERLAND cute and well performed, losing connection though. Reminds me of… Read more »

Most of those entries (Israel, Serbia, Croatia, Sweden, Finland, Malta, Moldova…) forgot one simple sing: ESC is a SONG contest before all. You can have the craziest ideas in the world and use the most original staging you want. But if you can’t sing with it, you’ve got a lot of chances to fail. wait and see the final performances though. But I’m very disappointed by most of what is shown in this reheareals roundup. Portugal is a good surprise.

I agree. A good song with a mediocre or decent staging / performance can do well. A bad or not impactful song with great staging can’t go far.

Stood out: Israel (WOW! Mesmerising) Finland (I’m in love), Latvia (what a nice surprise!), Malta (they’re do good), Switzerland (impressive), Moldova (Pasha knows the job), Czechia (strange but memorable).

Disappointed: Norway (the magic is gone and her singing isn’t nice on the ears), Netherlands (zero chemistry, can’t look), Sweden (the biggest disappointment for me. I’m really sorry for her, it simply looks BAD, tired and angry).

Some more first thoughts: The girls from Czechia who aren’t singing are just… There? It seemed better in the preparties with the instruments. The staging itself doesn’t reassure me. It’s a good song, fantastic music video and if only they managed to replicate the feeling of it, they would be serious contenders. This staging seems creepy, but not artsy creepy. The singer from Ireland looks like he doesn’t want to be there. Azerbaijan is cute! They should qualify. The Dutch performance may actually end up being really beautiful, but the vocals aren’t very strong. Portugal’s staging feels really really empty.… Read more »

With Norway I feel like something is missing with the staging… Malta could surprise. It is a lot but it’s fun. Did Serbia add those growling sounds to the song? Idk, I’m not a fan of the clip – not the text on screen, not the sound. I love Latvka this year but I’m not sure if they need something more impactful to do well. Croatia is unhinged but I expected nothing less. The backing vocals were waaay too loud though. I still can’t decide if this will flop or do surprisingly well. Switzerland is… Fine. Israel… Idk it’s clearly… Read more »

I think you are pretty on top of it. What is sad: after preparties people complain about Netherlands, but compared to what we hear today, they are top 20% of the singers in semi 1. Even surpassing Loreen who is struggling. And then I am not even talking about the 1 that never sang a note during 30 seconds and some that have small voices but you hear very loud singers from a different planet on stage. Awkward.

I love the studio version of “Burning Daylight”. Too bad Mia & Dion can’t perform it convincingly, because it has great power. The new version is softer and lacks that impact of the studio cut, I think. I still hope they make it through.

Malta surprised me. Portugal is stunning. Dissapointed in Serbia (bad lighting), Croatia (a mess) and Sweden (less spectacular than I’ve seen earlier, but still good). Israel was never my taste and will never be, but that dance break. I gotta admit, that was amazing.

Seems like Malta, Portugal and Finland will get my votes, but excited to see the full clips!

I’m surprised re the complaints about the camera angles. I was impressed with the rehearsal footage and thought the production looked great. Standouts for me from the footage alone were Norway, Finland, Serbia and Israel. Loreen was pitchy and underwhelming, as were Ireland. Also disappointed with Netherlands who were just a bit flat.

I don’t judge artists vocals during rehearsals, since most of them are indeed saving their voices. But Loreen’s staging went from iconic to plain boring. They obviously had to sacrifice a lot just to keep the Melfest staging, but now I’m convinced that they needed to change EVERYTHING for Liverpool. It’s just not working.

They really need to turn up the volume for most of the vocals and just stop it with all these wide angels for performances with little to no props on stage. What kind of impression do they even try to convey with that?

And Loreen really needs to focus and calm down with her voice, that was one of the worst vocals I’ve ever heard from her. Maybe too much pressure making her try too hard in the end?

Ok, the led sandwich is smaller, that isn’t an issue with good camera angles. But there’s not enough smoke, there’s no dreamy atmosphere as in Melfest and the camera angles make the prop look incredibly cheap. To me it really doesn’t look good at all at the moment.
