Crisis averted the fans won on this one ! Please find below a statement from the BBC and EBU: “After trying a new system of presenting the qualifying countries in Dress Rehearsal 1 of the First Semi-Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 it was decided by the production team to revert back to the previous reveal sequence used in recent years with artists learning whether they will progress to the Grand Final together with their delegations in the Green Room. Whilst this change will not now be implemented this year there are other innovations in the show for viewers… Read more »
So, apart from doing the qualifier announcements “x-factor style” this year, they are also doing short interviews with the qualifiers mid-announcement to increase the tension. Like asking Loreen “how she feels” while more than half the artists are still awkwardly standing on the podium waiting for their name to be called (or not). Plus, they are doing a split-screen of the last 6 acts waiting for the announcement of the final qualifier(s). All alone, on stage without the delegations.
This is so degrading, it’s even worse than I imagined.
When in past years the qualifiers came to the stage at the end while the hosts did their closing speech, now they do mini interviews with the first five qualifiers, then the next 4 qualifiers before announcing the last one and finally the last qualifier does a short interview right after being called. By Alesha Dixon, no less, to really hammer home that x-factor theme. It’s horrendous.
#osterdahlout
Absolutely disagree with the new way the qualifiers are announed. No self respecting artists would want to take part in this humiliating experience. This is not a national final nor a talent show, these people represent more than themselves they represent their countries. Also being alone on stage without their teams to celebrate with makes it a sad experience for those that Q as well not just the NQs. EBU goes from wrong decision (100 % televote) to wrong decision (Q announcment) this year giving in to a populist narrative. I hope they rethink this approach asap or else Osterdahl… Read more »
So the rumours are true?
An absolute disgrace. I assume it’s too late to change now, but I really hope this is a one-off thing and it’ll be gone by next year!
Yes they are true pictures of the artists standing on stage during the announcment are floating around. It’s embarassing ! I hope they change even NOW for the second semi at least !
So bad! What do they win by doing this? More drama? It’s song contest, not some kind of stupid tv show where they do everything to «entertain» bloodthirsty public …
I miss Ola Sand!
It really cheapens the whole thing. I haven’t seen any positive comments from people, this surely can’t stick. Can it?
Amen!
I am literally disgusted when I saw the photo. All the artist seemed really uncomfortable, especially Loreen..
If I was one of the acts, I would organize a strike. Just point blank refuse.
Live discussion article for the dress rehearsals please ? Till then :
My SF 1 prediction :
Sweden
Finland
Norway
Czech Republic
Moldova
Serbia
Israel
Croatia
Latvia
Azerbaijan
Instead of Latvia and Azerbaijan it may be Portugal (it has a couple of allies in France and Switzerland maybe) and either Netherlands or Switzerland IF songs play any role. But I doubt it. We’ll see.
Switzerland has the best vocals and the best staging today, no way he’s NQ!
Yeah but juries don’t vote for vocals to matter much…
I hope that the public who votes have ears as well ))
Will we get live discussion for today’s dress rehearsals, wiwi?
Sweden changed their staging and it doesn’t look any good(((
It would be nice to see more effort put into the songs and maybe a bit less on their images. Even the best songs this year are less that mediocre.
True. It’s just a shame that the commentator was so awful. Like distractingly so. The hosts were on-point and the organisation was great.
I hope your kidding! Not just the location, the hosting last year was fresh and not robotic, like this year!
I loved that movie.
Why so many countries missing?? Didn’t they go?
Yeah couldn’t see Voyager on Wiwibloggs’ Insta for example.
ITS CRAZY ITS PARTY
Refreshing that the Israeli delegation didn’t ruin this too, we will always remember how they trashed it last year.
Blanca paloma..wonderful and brillante..Always do nice
The hostess: Everything on point. Azerbaijani twins: so so beautiful!! Fantastic matching outfits, hair and styling. I LOVED this special look. Outstanding. Israel: she’s simply stunning. Such a beauty. What an outfit!! Unicornic. Cyprus: YES PLEASE. Italy: I can’t get enough of him. His style is excellent in general. I always enjoy looking at this handsome guy ? Poland: the BEJBA dress – this girl is smart! She’s owning the meme. Loved it. I know about the whole Polish preselection scandal, but I just can’t hate her. She’s funny. Horrible singer but funny… Georgia: interesting, captivating the eyes. Spain: PERFECTION.… Read more »
I preferred last year. I felt that the interviews were so weak. Sam Quek lacked the knowledge of the contest or the entrants to have more insightful discussions. Timor was better.
Short and boring ceremony.
Last year’s picture indside the castle were amazing.
Hope the show is gonna be different…
Anytime there was an an aerial shot all you could see was the vast emptiness of the open areas around the two buildings, devoid of any crowds except for the 1000 “invited” fans, it all looked a bit fake. You’d have to wonder about the level of interest in the contest from your average Liverpudlian.
Last year was generally a mess.
UK and UKR had the best outfits.
Why is Reiley dressed up as a queer version of Pennywise?
I found last year much more glamurous tbh
It was nice to hear Mia & Dion name check WIWI at Lush on main interview.
It felt boring a bit. Hope YLE will serve the hype next year.
You mean SVT 😉
I’m once again reeaaallyy to the forum’s discussion but it’s pretty certain that Bejba has had the best outfit of the evening so far.
*really lat,e goddamnit
Who cares about fashion? Only surface.
Milla showing up everywhere with worn out shoes, pants that were in style in 2008, shirt that moths live in by night and the worst dyed hair we have ever seen and then she says this.
Better check out SALE section at the nearest H&M!
Hey wiwibloggs, when are we getting a “Who had the best outfit” poll?
My turquoise carpet 2023 WINNERS are Lord of the Lost, Marco Mengoni and Luke Black!
As for the females I’d say Loreen and Mae Muller, but I’m not that impressed in general.
Honorary mention to Blanca Paloma, who made the best descent down the steps.
Does Greece only have one outfit with them?!?
And so have Finland
Käärijä has several outfits with him, but they’re mainly focused on his style with the stage outfit. Beside, would a basic suit really be his style?
Someone should adviced him to dress for that. That same bolero doesn’t fit for evening or other occassions!
It’s the “Thing” for him, so it makes him more recognizable, but yeah he had other boleros and such so I wonder when he’ll use them.
That was fun.
Well done to Sam, Timur, and Richie. Is this the last we hear from them?
MIMICAT: “the” lusitana paixão realness! <3
Mae Muller definitely has some Madonna inspirations. She looks good.
I’m genuinely starting to wonder if Mae is Madonna’s long-lost daughter. She looks so like her.
Bono and Madonna’s love child.
The Mullers took her in so she could have a surname. A touching story.
So beautiful.
Indeed I did not notice that before !
Albina looks gorgeous but the family….They did not all go to the same stylist obviously.
Andrew dressed as a ninja 😛
wtf was Blance wearing ? Not very flattering…
*Blanca
Oh jesus Paloma should have learned few words in English
Its just haters
I love how happy and enthusiastic Blanca is. She’s great.
Latvia had the Abbey Road look. Romania just glasses.
Who is downvoting Noa Kirel’s comments???
Jealousy is not a good thing.
You are definitely NOT phenomen-phenomen-phenomenal!
Think is first year where there hasn’t been a translator with anyone
You spoke too soon!
Thing is known – I have boot envy.
Okay, but that is a genuinely lovely explanation about their outfits.
Lovely, but heartbreaking.
Gustaph and his fashion choices proving once again that sending him instead of Gala is an eternally unexplainable and unfathomable decision that will forever be haunting the Belgian nation from now on…
I’m still jealous of Joker Out for collaborating with Elvis Costello. Lovely outfits, boys.
Bejba looked gorgeous, good for her.
at least we have official spelling of BEJBA
Ok Bejba slayed
Ok Blanka embracing the bejba meme is THE moment of the carpet lol
BEJBA XD
Well, that’s definitely green.
