Semi-Final 1 of Eurovision 2023 started with a sea shanty — and one powered by the forceful hip thrusts of Norway’s Alessandra. It ended with Finland’s Käärijä chanting “cha cha cha” as he navigated the stage in spikes and an open-front, neon green bolero. In between, we heard Latvian men telling us not to cry, a Swiss man singing about his watergun, and a Swedish woman sandwiched between to giant boxes.
Fifteen sang, but when the results were tallied only ten made it through to Saturday night’s grand final.

solo by Blanka is plagiarism Romanian Singer INNA-UP
Polish song solo by Blanka is plagiarism INNA-UP what is wrong with that content???
I was ever so mad when Malta didn’t qualify! It took long before I could sleep. I was grumpy in the morning on Wednesday and sad the rest of the day. I spent 80% of my votes on them. I really wanted to help them through. Though I have listened many times to the other songs, Fancy (our own party) I have listened to almost half the time. It is stuck in my head and I don’t get tired of it. It was the song I needed this year. Now I have watched semifinal 2, and tonight I can sleep… Read more »
extremely heartbroken over latvia </3
aija is a beautiful song with a beautiful meaning and is 1000 times better than what croatia sent. latvia keeps being disrespected at esc even when they send amazing songs and it literally breaks my heart in two
This ESC only have 2 good songs, Portugal and Italy. The rest is just fireworks, repeated melodies that we know from others songs and bad voices! This year we have many, many people that can´t sing without the help of technology!
Wow indeed!
My 2nd fav this year, between Let 3 and La Zarra.
I think what many folks are not considering is that this year it’s a whole different ballgame without juries in SFs in regards to the GF.
I think we’re in for some surprises.
Yh but unfortunately the winner is so obvious .. Sweden
I’m very glad about the results. I think it’s the first time that all 10 I wanted to see through came through. All 15 Acts did a great job regardless!
The Interval act with Alyosha was really emotional and well made.
I watched with my family and we all had goosebumps when Loreen performed. She’s outstanding and my hero, I’ll be rooting for her <3
I'm looking forward for a great final and for Semi 2!
Let’s talk about semifinal 1 NQs? Shall we? Is there a lesson to learn? My opinion… IRELAND don’t want to degrade any artist, but the lead singer looked disappointed while singing already, not into it, bored maybe? he even left the mic without finishing the lyrics *thank you backing vocals). Everyone expects more from 7-win strong Ireland. We want you back! NETHERLANDS I don’t feel they need to change anything. There is a pattern with the same type of songs but I like it. This year it did not work out. Plus I believe in bad energy. Everything turned out… Read more »
I still prefer the non-qualifiers tbh, original and alternative songs are needed
Me too, and these results are discouraging for alternative artists. The outcome only gives the wrong message to them.
The fandom sucked all of Wild Youth’s excitement out of them, I can’t blame them 🙁
I liked the outside of the box Latvia, it started really good but the song presentation got less in the middle and end, so people lose attention. The song had nothing people could remember it on, the lyrics or something like a melody. So it was very alternative. I would also have liked to see the faces more, the guy with the moustache was very attractive and cool but you only saw him from the side
Yeah so my really long comment didn’t get approved
Been euroclub last two nights , going down big with fans Finland , United Kingdom , Belgium and Italy remix
Underwhelming and disappointing semifinal IMO, to many sound issues and some bad camera angles, the prerecorded vocals threw me off and I’m not seeing anyone here winning, I also think that the songs who failed classification we’re much more interesting and would have been saved by a professional jury, they are very necessary to recognize and save quality: Norway: never liked the song and she was vocally bad, uninteresting staging and dumb lyrics. Malta: amateurish but fun staging, ok vocals and should had passed. Serbia: I can’t hear him, nice staging. Latvia: they we’re perfect and should have gone through,… Read more »
So sad for Latvia. They haven’t qualified since 2016 and they always send good songs. I don’t know why it’s so overlooked? Triana, Laura, Carousel, Samanta and now Sudden Lights. Shame, such good songs and concepts. Also sad for Malta. The boys gave it their all and it was a cool performance. Seeing all the bands getting kicked out (LV, MT, AZ and IRL) I’m afraid for Slovenia now :-/
Slovenia will definitely qualify, it’s in the “weaker” semi so it
ll be easier for them to qualify and they
re more of a fan favorite then Lativa this yearThose eliminated in Semifinal 1 would’ve been in the mix in Semifinal 2 as it is clearly the weaker one.
I wouldn’t worry about Slovenia, they’ll rock the stage for sure.
Let’s be honest. Ireland’s entry was dreadful and the performance was even worse. His clingy costume – which looked like it had been designed for an anorexic teenage female – made him a laughing stock. The other songs were poor. The only one that surprised me going out was Latvia. But bottom dollar, 5 songs had to go and none of those kicked out would have troubled the juriesnor the voting public.
There were some dreadful performances that still made it through. Just accept it, most eurofans have a pretty mediocre musical taste
Ireland needed styling differently … Something about that outfit, the way he wore his hair, and his charisma just didn’t quite click together, it felt like pub entertainment – which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but I can understand why they didn’t make it, it’s a strong year and they were cheesy and brassy in a way that felt a bit cloying.
If only juries would see it that way in the final haha. Regardless, we in Moldova are very proud of Pasha no matter the result!
Loreen was highly underwhelming for me. Whereas Finland ROCKED!
Sweden 49 % to winn.
Finland 20 % to winn
I say no more
Loreen was highly underwhelming in the rehearsal. In the semifinal, she did very well, as usual. I feel there is no doubt Sweden is winning this. The song and staging are too good not to win, even with a slightly underwhelming performance by Loreen.
Don’t let the wiwi bloggers hear you. They wet themselves with excitement at the mere mention of her name
I’m so happy for Portugal, Moldova and Czechia! They deserved it
I’m also sad for Ireland, Latvia and Netherlands
Since 2017 Latvia didnt qualify to the grand final. It’s difficult to say that Latvia will participate in the competition next year. We have good artists, for example Aminata or Musiqq. But Sudden Lights are also great, just a small nuance, Europe didnt understand us XD.
My top 5 from 1st semi final from Latvia:
1. Sweden
2. Finland
3. Israel
4. Switzerland
5. Ireland
When’s the last time Latvia sent something in Latvian?
They got last place the last time they tried that
They could try sending something in Livonian.
Probka in 2009
Probka was in Russian.
That’s gotta be rough, sending a band this good and not breaking the streak. Here’s hoping for some favorable voting changes.
And indeed Europe didn’t get you guys, a substantial part of the comments in Aija’s videos came from Latin America somehow
Sorry, I’m a little late to the party because I was busy helping my mother do grocery shopping and I was binging expiring show up late so I didn’t get a chance to watch semifinal one until this morning.
While Croatia managed to break its bad luck curse last night by qualifying, it is a sad irony that 10 years after the Netherlands qualified for the first time in years, they would fail to qualify for the first time in a near decade (8 years to be exact). Sometimes the good luck runs out.
Bless you for having priorities even if it meant missing the live show. Respect!
And similar fate caught me tonight. Too many chores. I’ll watch it tomorrow. 🙂
Time to lay it out there. Sweden is grinding on me more than ever now. Every post on Instagram or TikTok you see queen or mother is mothering. It’s sick worthy.
Finland Israel Spain just someone else win please. Save us from the sickening puke fest afterwards if she wins
I see Käärija everywhere.
i don’t care if an artist returns to eurovision but give us something different and show your progression since you last competed, tattoo is euphoria copy and paste and i hope it doesn’t work in 2023. these kinds of songs should have been left in 2015
She brought Statements but the Swedish public preferred a treadmill song instead…
I actually agree with this, I don’t mind tattoo but statements was an actually good song that was different to winning song in 2012 but it’s pretty clear that the Swedish rather crappy pop or ballads then something unusual, I really hope Finland wins over Sweden because its unusual compared to Sweden.
Exactly. Anyone but Loreen, please. Everything is so recycled in this performance. I don’t buy her “spiritual” vibe. Eeeww… So fake. The only vibe I get is of someone who hasn’t showered for a month.
How much Envy against Loreen. IT’S JUST RIDICULOUS.
Work hard your entries and complaint less. Soooorry, it is what it is.
No, it’s not envy. It’s frustration. Loreen brings nothing new, more of the exact same, and immediately she’s the clear favourite to win. Not because she’s the best, but because of her and her country’s name. It is so clear the judges throw points on Sweden every year, no matter what, even if the public puts them almost last, that the bookies know she’ll win. Her chances to win the televote are very low according to the bookies. That’s also outrageous, once again the judges will save Sweden. Not because they deserve it, but because it’s Sweden. Can you really… Read more »
Finlands singer is just a clown, and he cant sing. Btw it works for Dana Internationel,
After running around set, can’t sing without that affecting the voice! Stop calling names! Your comments comes from stupid clown!
It’s so painfully calculated and constructed with bits of ABBA, Madonna and well Euphoria that at this point I don’t care if I ever hear it again.
And she seems like sucha fake indeed.
Hm …..that card don’t work anymore. Did you forget how the semi worked this year. People voting you know. Or wait maybe they manipulated the voting system this year ….bla bla bla . Sick and tired of all this hate on us just because we take this contest seriously. Let us not forget that this is a contest. The best song wins and if you want to win you will have to WORK for it . If Finland are the best this year they will win or any other country for that matter . The song that is appealing to… Read more »
Made me laugh out loud. Bless you.
I don’t understand how it isn’t being disqualified for plagiarism. One of the criteria for jury voting is originality. Tattoo would have to score zero on that front surely. But we all know the juries will vote heavily for Sweden as they always do anyway and kill off Finland’s hopes.
Haha agree.
On a similar note, swedish press/media are quick to acream plagiarism when they spot a potential “dangerous” competition, even if it’ completely unfounded. Of course, there’s a heavy bias in case swedish composers/producers are involved.
You are confusing plagiarism with a chord progression that is used and repeated by hundreds of artists. A similar chord progression does not make a song plagiarized.
Are people so sure about Finland’s failure with the juries? I mean Sweden’s odds right now: 48 % winning chance! Insane. Will Sweden actually become such a huge favourite with the juries and gain enough televotes to win? I’m really not sure about Finland failing with the juries. Not totally anyway.
I don’t think I’ve ever been this personally affected by a nq (Latvia) and it’s been only THREE freakin years since I’ve been a Eurovision fan. The struggle is real…
Like I can’t even be happy for Serbia, Portugal, Czechia and Moldova.
I’m with you…
Omg try 20 years.. and I’m 27 :’)
Me neither, I’ve been so emotionally invested in Aij? and it broke my heart not to see it making it through 🙁
I’ve been a fan for 17 years and I’m so disheartened by this too… I can’t believe we are back to the 2000’s where quality wasn’t important and the allocation draw decided if a country and not a song would do well or not.
me too ? i was less sad about eat your salad since it was kinda inevitable, but i’m so emotionally distraught on aij?… and others are too!! no idea why they didn’t qualify. two days after semi 1 and im still crying about it ?
Except for remo forrer, everyone sang more or less playback. Very disappointing this new rule.
Mimicat say hello….
You’re right Remo wasn’t the only one, but the rule is quite a bad idea
Mimicat slayed ! Without playback
In fact Portugal itself sent a music in 1981 called “Playback” criticizing precisely that….
That’s such a fantastic song by the way. My number 2 of that year. X
Agree, supercatchy
I don’t care who wins as long as it’s not Sweden. I don’t want to see the same winner with a similar song and similar moves etc. I prefer something new. I liked Serbia, it’s a special song that has a meaning and the performance was great. Good luck to all! 🙂
Then you care lol
Haha I really don’t, I will be happy for whoever but not Sweden 🙂
You sound exactly like me, and we have the same name! 🙂 Serbia is my number one too, and I’m always saying I’d rather anyone won but Loreen 🙂
We have the best name in the world girl! 🙂
This argument is so stupid! The fact that Loreen won in 2012 doesn’t automatically make her less worthy to win this year. It’s unfair that a good song, with good lyrics, a good voice, a good performance, loses because “you don’t want the same winner”. And it’s not a repeat of what she did in 2012, it’s her style.
According to the bookies right now it’s over 1/2
Some fans are really under the delusion that the winner’s definitely Sweden or Finland or Isr..LOL, when there is Austria and Armenia in the second semi and especially Spain in GF.
Austria, Armenia and Spain will definetely not win this year… who’s delusional here..?
You’re just telling on yourself at this point 🙂
And France is a winner possibly
Frankly i found the presentation pretty good. The production looked smooth and the stage was nice….
It was a very difficult semi final
Im sad for Latvia, Malta and the Netherlands
But im happy for Portugal and Serbia 🙂
Personally, I prefered Latvia or even Malta than Croatia… Joke entry nothing more
I was bummed the most about Latvia and Malta, both of whom I voted for. they went outside the box and should have been rewarded for it.
Totally! They should have earned a spot in the GF. This is one of the consequences of eliminating the juries. Sometimes, the masses’ taste doesn’t mean quality. Malta and Latvia would have really contributed their 2 cents of golden quality on Saturday. The Finnish man didn’t even have enough voice in the 2nd half of his act.
As you know, Eurovision is not only about the song or how the artist sings. It’s the whole performance, where Käärijä was beyond almost every artist in the first qualifier. Of course, singing-wise he’s far behind the likes of Loreen, Mimicat, etc., but performance-wise he’s one of the best.
It was a song contest until the public vote ruined it for rubbish
If You think twice, it’s the juries ruined it even more! Juries suppose to prevent block voting, instead they got it even worse! Cyprus-Greece, Fin-Nor-Est->Sweden etc.
No dude, the so called eurofans ruined it with their dreadful and tacky musical taste
Because he ran before 2nd half, can’t expect singing with good voice? Don’t know, why the running around the set was added to performance??
Both Malta and Latvia got alot of votes from me. Two great songs I will listen to alot the cominh months.
I read prediction reports of couple of digital agencies and if you look at the figures (google search, stats..) Loreen will win as she will get enough televotes and she will be nr 1 or 2 on jury votes. Norway will be second (tik tok fame, high on televotes and higher than Finland on jury votes). And based on stats Italy could be third (and could win jury vote). Loreen should start and finish the show! I personally have many favorites, I hope all artists will enjoy performing on Saturday and nail it!
People in here demand otherworldly singing skills and impeccable movements from some acts declaring them “disappointing” while cheering for a guy who can’t really sing, doesn’t really dance, just runs around and screaming cha cha cha. Guys, seriously, your critique is as dumb as his whole performance.
I wouldn’t say that’s the case. ESC fans can be quite happy with poor vocal abilities of the performer, too – if, however, the whole performance has this certain X factor that makes the whole entry worth watching again and again. But what people don’t appreciate is when a performer just …doesn’t deliver. If, say, there’s a singer who sets the bar to be another Ariana Grande vocally and J-Lo dance-wise and they’re only deliver 75%, people will be like “…meh.”
So you say that setting the bar so low to the level of a meth clown, serving only novelty is the real secret for success. Noted.
Obviously you’re not open for a respectful discussion and whatever I write will be greeted with a passive aggressive comment from you, so we’d better leave it at that. Have a good day! 🙂
What I said was accurate and it pisses you off, I get it. Bye
How disrespectful of you to call anyone a “meth clown” like you know ANYTHING personal about them. You’re a trash person Ana.
Your latest sentence is quite disrespectful too…..
Just spitting facts.
Stop trying to judge music or any form of art by adding elements. Sometimes it’s enough if one or two elements are outstanding to make something great. Finland was my favorite yesterday, because the level of charisma was just out of this world. The song was also super catchy and original, super funny and creepy at the some time. It just worked.
It’s fine, televoters gave Serhat a top 10 position as well. I just wonder why do you have the need to critique so harshly acts that are actually trying to show some skill while adoring your clowns? Don’t you find it odd?
Daddy Serhat was outstanding. He deserved his top 10 position. Don’t you mess with him.
I will ask again, why can’t you ironically adore your “daddy” without sh*tting on other that are actually trying? Huh?
That’s the point: we don’t want to see anyone *trying*. We want to see people *perform*.
Serhat qualifying instead of Portugal, Hungary and Poland back then was (objectively) extremely bad for the contest, and is one of the exact massive reasons why people don’t take ESC and its results seriously at all. Serhat is just another Russian granny, basically…
There’s no such thing like “objectively” wenn we talk about performances. If you mean vocal abilities only – maybe, but a televised music event like the ESC is more than just that.
I believe when it comes to live tv-show, and esp. for televoting, it is different.
When you are already in a crazy party mode, you pay less attention to those details. So a sexy dance can save an entry (Yes, I am talking about Israel. The song is structurally broken, while Noa was off-key. Tho it might be due to the technical issue, and we shall see whether they will improve on Saturday.)
In the past years, we have seen how crazy entries can grab points aggressively, whether they are good (Italy 2021), or bad (Moldova 2022).
No, no. Nobody demands “otherworldly singing skills and impeccable movements”; most of us are open to letting the performers be themselves (and Käärijä is totally himself).
However, when stans have spent months promising “otherworldly singing skills and impeccable movements”, saying things like “cancel the calls, we’ve found the next Madonna” and then the act is neither otherworldly nor impeccable, it’s normal to say it didn’t live up to the hype. What would be weird would be pretending it was something that it wasn’t.
The thing is the guy that doesn’t really dance, can’t really sing and runs around screaming managed to win the audience because he’s very, very good at that. That’s why you’d expect great singing from somone who can actually sing, or great dancing from someone who can actually dance. It’s not a contradiction.
I’m disappointed by the stage, it’s pretty small, I’m not fond of the design either, Italy had a much better stage, not to mention sine of the previous editions. There’s nothing creative this year, looks pretty bland.
Ukraine is at war and BBC is doing their best with reasonable budget, so let’s be happy it’s not 2020 again without any contest.
I kinda like the stage.
Eurovision is not capable of curing your bitterness. The production this year is more than fine actually. There are some fans who think that ESC should be produced on a level that will make them c*m. It’s a ridiculous expectation to begin with and you just set yourself up for an eternity of disappointment.
Staging is ok IMO, but conparing it with Italian atrocities, really? The worst Eurovision by far in every single way in the last 10 years? That stage will go down in history as the stupidest and ugliest in the 21st century.
The ugliest stages were Denmark 2001 and the one that came after in 2002. The Italian stage wasn’t the best but it was far from the worst.
I don’t even remember the Danish stage, and I’m Danish. So I guess not that memorable.
I liked the danish stage in 2014. I think last years stage was a but lacking. But the 2014 stage was nice!
Gosh, people, everyone is downvoted for expressing their own opinion by people who disagree. It might be just me not being fond of the stage this year, that’s fine, it’s not like I offended anyone, it doesn’t look that impressive to me, that’all, and I am grateful UK is hosting on behalf of Ukraine, I bet most people are, so c ‘mon, chill because downvoting everyone you disagree with is not the way. Thanks.
I agree: the stage did look rather small in comparison to those of the previous years!
Italy literaly had a broken stage so do not know what you talk about..
That’s true, still, I just like the Italian stage more, even though it had its issues, feel free to disagree. Thank you for expressing your opinion, I’m glad to exchange viewer.

The stage might not be the biggest but I think BBC use it in very creative ways. Does everything have to be bigger and more expensive every single year?
The stage its ok…it works and its nice
lets enjoy the party
I like the stage!! And I really liked the first semi. Good job BBC! The presenters did a good job (I really liked Hannah!!) and it was a very enjoyable production I think! The BBC should be proud of what they do. Love from Sweden
I agree . It’s all a bit poundland this year. I kept noticing how scratched the small stage floor was.
His song does absolutely nothing for me, but he gave one of the best performances of the night and deservingly qualified.
Loreen Is nailed on and probably because the jury don’t see beyond anything but Sweden.
San Ryder last year had a huge tik tok following and did well.
If you look at the views from last night they read as follows
Israel 3.5 million
Norway 2.9 million
Croatia 2.2 million
Sweden 530,000
Finland 530,000
The kids will have a huge say in this yet just like with Sam
I think a lot of views of Israel are from the country itself and the fact that she’s a huge star there.
Although Sam Ryder actually did better with the juries than the public vote. He was only 5th in public vote.
Israel’s Noa is told to be the biggest star in her country, Norway has been trending all the time on Tiktok, Croatia’s Let 3 is well known in balkans and gave WTF moment on stage for others, Sweden’s Loreen is a previous winner and from this list Finland seems to be gaining most without any already made fanbase.
You did everything there for that statement to fit your narrative lol
What narrative? Should I just say Noa isn’t big star in Israel, Norway doesn’t trend on Tiktok, Let 3 isn’t known in the balkans, no one knows Loreen and Finland isn’t liked? Get real.
Kaarija won’t win. I was and still ham w huge fan of his. With that vocal last night the juries will destroy him. Loreen already has Sweden bias and with Kaarija vocal no chance. The biggest threat now is Noa
And you think Noa’s vocals are better… Right ..
Sweden’s biggest threats are countries that appeal juries, so jury votes might go into multiple directions, and they usually don’t dismiss early favourites so it’s doubtful for Finland to get a really low score from them.
Sweden 2018 and Belgium 2017 got decent scores, even when their vocals weren’t that good.
Sweden 2018 song was flat MJ in solarium. There were much better like Estonia and Bulgaria. Still got over, why the juries licked it??
Noa’s vocal was not great, plus she didn’t sing certain parts in order to be able to make some corrographed moves instead, which is exactly why most jurors will penalyze her heavily.
Kaarija as much as I would love him to win won’t with that end vocal. He can’t come from 100 points behind to beat the one chorus wonder and mumbling from Sweden. Noa did just as good as loreen
Noa didn’t sound good at all…
The dancebreak is a bit cheap, could be more classy,
I agree. More acrobatics than dance. Kicking legs in air. Not too impressed.
Don’t get how they add Käärijä running around, before he starts 2.part? After running and jogging, how can anyone expect to sing good without shaky vocals??
The public might forgive a bad vocal but I don’t think the juries will in Käärijää’s case. He needs to nail it. The questions is if he can sing better while running around like that? And if he stops running around like that, would he loose votes from the public for not giving as much energy?
I know this is considered the tougher semi final but honestly I was very underwhelmed by most of the acts last night. There was zero wow factor in any of the performances I felt.
I also find Croatia’s song to be unlistenable both as a studio cut and live stage show. Baffles me how that qualified over some of the other acts.
Yes nederlands was better maybe. A few more also
Netherlands was crap
Serbia should’ve nq’d more and Malta should’ve qualified
Crap songs don’t win Dutch song contests .when the full results are shown it will be near enough top 10
Croatia was awfully interpreted, Latvia instead was perfect, and the song was beautiful! no justice
Because Croatia’s Let3 was the most interesting,provocative,smart,serious,
funny&colorfull in the show!!! Amen!!!
For me yesterday’s show ran too fast. Even the presenters were speaking at full speed. They were just jumping to one thing then Next one. The interval Act was lots of things crammed together. I did not have time to really appreciate what was going on.
And with Noa Kirel performing just once, we had only one 3 minute bathroom break!
Yeah, I had a simillar feeling, but it was over 2 hrs anyway, so maybe we just can’t get enough of Eurovision 🙂
I hoped Manchester would be better than Rotterdam, but until now it isn’t
Liverpool
Portugal was simply amazing. A country without the resources and investment that many others present in the Eurovision. It was just Mimicat and the dancers on stage and they delivered an amazing show. A different song that talks about passion, a wonderful voice and a choreography that worked as a beautiful complement. Congratulations!
The best semi-final in years? Maybe! This is a SONG contest. The winning song must have meaningful lyrics that convey emotion, with a memorable and different performance and the vocals need to be on point. Everyone says Sweden is overrated, but isn’t Finland? Have you seen the lyrics of the song? Did you see how he sang the 2nd part of the song yesterday? Do you think this song will mark the history of Eurovision? Loreen may have already won, but the song has a message, the performance is worthy of a world artist and the voice is incredible. And… Read more »
I’m sad about Latvia not qualifying, but I knew it was going to happen tbf. Malta and Switzerland really surprised me and I think Malta deserved to qualify. Israel and Norway were a little disappointing to me. Finland and Sweden are both my winners!
Why is no-one talking about what a glow up Switzerland had? I initially had it as a total nq, but after the performance i had it as my 4th in the semi. His brilliant vocals and the great staging just elevate the staging so much! Really loved it
the song, not the staging, obviously
Don’t think it was ever a total NQ except here. The strongest balad in this semi by far would always get through.
glow up? He had been this good from the start, I always had him in my top 5.
Nobody talking? I mention and praise it in all comments < 3
hypocrite fans
2022: making cliché emma muscat nq
2023: making cliché remo forrer q
lmao
The song is still virtue signaling garbage
I think we really need to talk about Wild Youth. During the chorus, Conor at times didn’t even bother to pretend like he was singing and obviously all vocals were pre-recorded. How is that even possible.
And is this really what Martin Österdahl deems to be an improvement?
I’m utterly disgusted by this rule change.
I mentioned this a few times already. It was shockingly obvious THOSE were not just backing vocals that were on the bacling track.
Same goes for Israel. Nora was totally underqualified last night and the backing vocals were taking it over.
The band, especially the keyboardist, were singing too though. A lot of those vocals were live. That doesn’t mean it was good.
Ah ok good to know Connor was just in change for male camel toe then.
Shame and sadness Azerbaijan didn’t get through. Questionable quality of Israel, Switzerland and Portugal – such generic melodies like already heard 1000 times before.
Is the melody of Portugal generic? Tell me something similar! This entry was completely different from what Portugal has delivered recently.
Biggest disappointment was Israel, she had all the resources yet there weren’t any dancing skills. Just because you fall flat on your ass doesn’t mean you’re a dancer, vocally she barely sang anything, and stuttered in most parts.
I kind of was expecting this. The dance belongs in a stripper club tbh. Chanel had charisma and major talent last year.
Imo Israel performance must have been like the final part with an “all together” choreography all the time instead of so many things going on.
The dance break was a bit odd.
Blah Blah Blih Blah, the dogs are here for barking but it won’t change the fact that most people are impressed with this entry. I watched with some people who didn’t see the songs before and they were so impressed with her dancing that they thought it was one of her dancers doing the routine. So keep on barking, it won’t change the overall result.
You’re entitled to your own opinion, but it seems you’re a minority. She burnt the stage. The crowd went CRAZY, everyone screaming as if taken out of a mental hospital. Look at the reactions and comments on YouTube, TikTok etc, reactions and comments from non-Israelis.
You’re saying she barely sang anything?… I honestly wander if we watched the same performance.
They are smart. The dance simply saved the entry. They put it at the end, where no more lines are demanded (compared to Chanel last year, where we literally had a dance break.)
Vocal-wise, there were no back vocals supporting in Verse 1, and she was off-key in a consistent pattern. So I am not sure whether it was due to some technical issues, as some postulated. Either way, we shall see in GF.
Overall one of the most predictable sf ever results- wise but still deserved. Firstly, I think fans can finally drop it when it comes to #3 being the death slot since Serbia qualified again.. It all comes down to who is coming before and after you. Finland is the winner of the semi but I feel most of the acts have to be better vocally (Luke, Kaarija, Let3). On that note I really congratulate Mimicat for having maybe even the best vocals of the night (she is a Monika Liu of this year), Remo and Loreen follow. Production of the… Read more »
I think being drawn second is actually considered the death slot, not third. No country has ever won from there
I think #2 is more for the grand final..
When you look at the statistics #3 in the sf was where countries qualified the least (or one of)
Agreed with the best vocals. Most of the other entries have serious vocal issues. And, regrettably, Latvia did not qualify.
I partially agree, it couldn’t get more predictable but I don’t think several of the qualifiers deserved to make it through
Prlja, singer from the Let 3 couldnt perform vocally because he is sick. He got cold because of the problematic ventilation in place where they do rehearsal.
Much to my surprise, I find Portugal delivered the best performance last night. I say “surprise” because I wasn’t a fan of the song, even didn’t want them to qualify. Now, I’ve changed my mind.
Welcome! ? Mimicat was my #3 before the contest started. I shouldn’t be surprised, but I was very worried that she’d get thrown under the bus if two of the non-qualifiers qualified. I expected Azerbaijan (my #9) to pull the big surprise even without the juries.
Yes! Last night a lot of acts had terrible vocals, but she was flawless.
Biggest disappointment was Norway her vocals were very horsey and off key and the staging looked very confused Would have preferred Malta or Latvia to qualify
Her whistle note didn’t land 🙁
I think you’re exaggerating a little bit.
It could be the technical issues that some have mentioned. The vocals of the first three entries feel quieter than I would expect. Till Sudden Lights boosted the show; regrettably, they were robbed.
I felt that the sound overall had no echo. It’s was more of a Karaoke sound for all contestants. Why? Very bad sorry. I think Loreen will win. She had the most professional act and singing on stage it’s was stunning. Second I liked Noa Kirel and third Finland but he wasn’t good live but he is fun ok.
You complain about the sound and praise Loreen at the same time? It was her worst performance I’ve seen, she was off key many times and seemed somewhat tired.
Hatred for Loreen is clouding your judgment!
