Just days after the stage hands wiped the glitter off the floor in Liverpool, Spain’s RTVE confirmed that it would return to Eurovision in 2024 — and said that it would once again use Benidorm Fest as its selection method.

And tonight Spanish broadcaster RTVE announced that it will reveal the 16 semi-finalists on November 11. If a reveal can count as a birth, then these songs are all Scorpios. Make us sting, honey!

Benidorm Fest 2024: The 16 semi-finalists will be revealed on November 11

RTVE made the announcement via its social media channels 15 minutes past 10pm local time, filling Eurofans with sweet dreams and beautiful nightmares as they imagine the artists in the pipeline.

The first semi-final will take place on Tuesday, January 30; the second, on Thursday, February 1 and the finale on February 3

Following a long press conference in July, RTVE’s team unveiled some juicy stuff about how Benidorm Fest 2024 is developing and who will be taking part.

Co-director César Vallejo stressed that this year they’re putting extra emphasis on the idea of Benidorm Fest being the festival of Spanish music. “If you sell this as a competition, established artists won’t like the idea of coming 16th”.

“Some well-known artists are sometimes wary of taking part. That’s why we have to get people to perceive Benidorm not as a competition, but as a showcase of the best Spanish music”, he said.

Vallejo also addressed one of the main issues within the Benidorm Fest 2024 process: the song rights. RTVE will only hold 15% of the rights of the winning entry, and none from the rest. That means creators will largely get to keep their coin!

According to Head of Delegation Ana María Bordas this is merely a “symbolic percentage” so that RTVE doesn’t lose money when they play the winning song.

Who do you want to see on the Benidorm stage in 2024? Let us know down below!

Chanel is not only Cuban, but also Spanish. She’s got double nationality. Plus, she is a resident in Spain. The rules state that only Spanish citizens or people resident in Spain may take part in Benidorm Fest. That’s why Javiera Mena, for example, who is only Chilean (she does not have Spanish nationality), but is a resident in Spain, could take part in 2022.
Luis Fonsi is not Spanish nor resident in Spain.

I’m hoping we don’t get an overrated 2023 repeat as a winning song.

I’m hoping for more Catalan, Galician, and Basque representation.|

Also hoping for less pop and more R&B, hip-hop, and electronic music.

I was going to write the same thing. I’m tired of female pop with backup dancers hogging the spots in ESC, more variety could guarantee more viewers.

We speak different languages in Spain, it is nice to have some representation, and it is also nice to respect others’ opinions! 🙂

So, you’re saying you want more songs that can be played at a Bershka or a Zara store, right?

I really like their way of thinking. More thinking of it as a way of presenting new Spanish music, rather than a competition

If memory serves me right, weren’t the artists for Benidorm ’24 are supposed be revealed during the run up to the Latin Grammys in Seville? Is this now separate from the Grammys?

If Spain wants to do well, they need to send a Latin bop sung by a sexy person and there needs to be lots of dancing.
