During the official OGAE vote — in which members of official fan clubs can vote – we decided to stage our own vote. This totally unofficial poll allowed anyone to vote for their favourites, regardless of whether you were in a fan club or not. We counted 27,005 votes and the results are in.
As you can see, in our unofficial poll the Nordics didn’t do as well. Sweden actually placed fifth and Norway eighth. In our poll, Finland did better coming fourth.
Our readers’ winner was actually Poland — with Jann’s “Gladiator” earning 10,040 votes — or around 37% of all those cast. Serbia’s Filip Balos and Ukraine’s Jerry Heil rounded out the Top 3.
?
this is ridiculous! Jann had the best song by far!
#Swedenwinslol.
disgusted but not surprised
OGAE = MelodifestivalenFanClub
Albania should have won if you ask me
How do people can still pay attention to OGAE contest? Every year people take this poll too seriously. Just let it be, no one outside of ESC fans know that this exists :’) And it’s not like the winner of this poll will say: “Wow! How nice! I’m the best of the singers that didn’t make it to the real contest…”. Don’t get too angry for this.
This is a site for ESC fans, so of course stuff related to it will be posted .
It is a given no one outside fandom cares about it, just like no one outside fandom cares about this site or other sites
Yeah but that wasn’t my point. I expect articles to be posted about it but people should relax instead of reacting like if it was a big deal.
I really do not care about this contest at all. I just hope these people don’t have any influence on the actual Eurovision. Sadly I think they do. They are considered the voice of the fandom.
Genuine question : do you think Sweden does so well in ogae because the fans all follow melfest but not the other nf ?
Sweden winning OGAY second chance contest, let’s pretend to be surprised! 😮
I would have preferred some other song than quite dull Air to win. Ireland, Poland, Estonia, Spain… Happy for Finland’s Kuumaa and ?!
Also Belgium and even Denmark had good entries.
Imagine It Is Latvia Sending Honestly , Malta Sends Cant Breath With Air , Island Sends Random Icelandic Song Like What Finland Does , Do you Really Think These Countries will be Top 3 ? No. They Wont , and Will Be last Place as Every Year Because Ogays Are Zenophobic
The Same Songs Malta and Latvia Get Last Place With , If Sweden or Norway Send This Songs They Get Winner
It is getting pathetic over the years this huge bias towards Scandinavian entries. Loreen didn’t become and international star and those top three barely reach over a 1 million listeners. Eurovision is failing so the the Swedish Mafi@ which is running it….
let people enjoy things
Its Hard to Enjoy When Swedish Corruption Ruins All That We Love
How…
People accusing ESC juries of Sweden bias should point their finger at OGAE instead.
Seven months later, and Honestly is still awful. I’m sorry. A complete mismatch between music and lyrics.
OGAYE being cringe, what else is new…
The homophobic “Ogaye” joke stopped being funny a long time ago. Was it ever?
How is that relevant to the commentor’s argument?
How is your question relevant to mine?
From My Experiance When Someone Says You Are Being Homophobic It Is Because They Know They are Wrong
Yeah, calling someone “homophobic” at this point just means you’re discrediting that guy’s argument
It is as funny as ever imo
How is it homophobic lmao?? That’s literally how OGAE is pronounced
Maybe that’s how you pronounce it. That doesn’t mean everyone else does, Jamie.
isn’t every letter separated (O-G-A-E)?
my no.1 in this contest was ruta mur with her groovy 80s sound and this unique voice.
the songs from albania & portugal offered very good song quality – all three got spanked – ruta most!
top3 of the result are not my cup of tea but who cares…
Ruta Mur had a GREAT song – campy without excluding other groups, plus she sang EXTREMELY well live with eye-catching visuals and an interesting telephone box and skaters. I don’t know what the OGAErs are on?!
SWEUROVISION Y’ALL. Woht Elseee? 2024 vil be Same.
Oh wow, a Scandie entry wins OGAE second chance? Who would have guessed!
This Results Are Just Very Suspiciose Because The top 3 Are Very weak songs . Its nor Fair For Any Of The Scandinvians Win this . More Fairly Would Be For Serbia As Winner But ESC Corruption Aplies to Fan Contest Too Sadly
What do you mean with suspicious?
Dont Be Naeve
I can assure that all votes were counted correctly. Calling the results suspicious because no you don’t like the top three is a bit over-exaggerated.
Who Is Suprized? Sweden Could Send A Used Tissue and Still Place First . Who Decided That Every Thing Sweden Does Is To Be Rewarded ? This Song was Just Awful , and Not Even Sung From Swedish People . Rigged Contest
At Least Poland Flops Here , As If Anyone Could Think Jan Would Do Well at The ESC He cant Even Win This Rigged Fan Contest Or Sing His Own Song With Out This Voise Kraks
I think he could have won.
If All Of Jurers and Telewotere Suddenly Turn Deaf , Yes He can .
A used tissue, a chewed piece of bubblegum, a bag of broken crisps, an unrefrigerated piece of cheese made of rraaw milk covered in ho-ney, a bottle of stale soda!!
Only Time Sweden Places Less than Top 3 With Ogays Is Jon Lundvik , Probably Because He is Black , But they Even then rank him 6 Place
This Comment Gave Me A Seizure
Hopefuly Epalapsy Will Follow
How?! Lol that’s ridiculous like this fake contest, no more comments because I risk being really mean.
But who we see again in the top, Sweden and Italy, no more thing to add, but I’m tired to see that really, deserved or not at this point it’s too much.
And really ridiculous.
Sacré bleu ! Quelle suprise !!
Interesting that 4 of the bottom 5 here were also NQ in the “real” contest
At this point, it’s impossible to be surprised that Sweden wins OGAE (or at least enters a top 3). The song is catchy, well produced (athough somewhat repetitive), so I can see why it’s liked. Still, for me, Finland should have won, with Italy, Estonia, and Serbia being quite close.
PS. Albania also had a great OGAE second chance candidate!
Albania should have won, by faaaaaaaaaaar.
My personal Top 5 (from the Second Chance)
Cenere
Ylivoimainen
So Low
Novi Plan Drugi San
Honestly
My Personal Top 5 (from the whole National Final Season)
Cenere
Ylivoimainen
Alba
Prohibition (I know I am the only one who likes it)
So Low
Special Honorary Mention-
Pazza Musica by Marco Mengoni and Elodie. Which is the song, out of Marco’s new album, I personally would have chosen in the case Marco decided to switch songs.
As always Jann is a winner for the people, not a bunch of generic swedish pop fans.
Ylivoimainen, Cenere or Nochentera should have won.
Great songs, diversity, local language ans music scene.
Exactly, and all of them were big hits in their countries.
Air and Honestly were not hits in Sweden and Norway.
Air was a hit though!
Air wasn’t anything close in Sweden. It felt off quickly from Spotify Top 200 in Sweden.
Radio stations there push for Six Feet Under more as well.
These 3 are still Top 50 Spotify months later in their countries. They had more imapact with locals beyond NF.
Air was a pretty big hit though. Reached number 4 on the charts and one of the most streamed songs of the year.
They also took part in RixFm Festival, the summer tour where the most played acts of the year performes.
Correctly, Nochentera is the hit of the year in Spain. It is the song coming from Benidorm Fest with the most listenings (more than SloMo).
True!
the song is a banger but that wardrobe choice was terrible
It was an honour for me to be responsible for the scoreboard.
But the results were a bit disappointing.
I hope M& M returns to Mello with another pop banger! I could even see them win it..
I think they are more likely to show up in Norway
I would not bet on it.
They are based in Stockholm now and Sweden is where they have the audience now.
It would be odd though if a Norwegian act ended up represented Sweden – in Sweden. I liked Air but I don’t think it would have beaten Cha Cha Cha. Israel would likely have won the jury vote.
It is rare that non- Swedes represent Sweden. But the twins could be the ones.
Besides Norway is really close to Sweden. And it would not be the first time Norway represent Sweden. Elisabeth Andreassen did it in the 80’s, although she comes from Göteborg
Yes, as part of Chips in 1982. And of course Frida in 1974.
Im confused, didn’t the UK try to enter this contest with harry stlyes or is that some other online thing?
Yeah that’s the other onr, Second Chance is about NF non-winners
That’s the OGAE song contest, where you can pick any song from your country.
This is the OGAE second chance contest where you pick an unsuccessful song from your national final, as the UK didn’t have a national final, they aren’t in this one
It’s confusing isn’t it?!
Once again, the OGAE second chance contest shows how biased it really is. Almost every year, Sweden wins even if it really isn’t the best song. That is, with the exception of certain songs but even then they’re also Scandinavian. I mean, just look at the final results here. The top three are Scandinavian, even though we know songs from Filip Batos were universally loved. I’m a huge fan of the song Ulrikke sent this year as well as Marcus and Martinus ( I thought they should have been sent instead of their respective ‘real’ entries) but even I thought… Read more »
*OGAE
Didn’t agree in May with Tattoo but Air was pretty undeserved and overrated.
OGAE has clear bias or certain favorable taste towards some countries and music styles. Just like Juries at Esc.
Nothing really new or surprising.
It’s usually the same countries again and again. In the last 10 years, Sweden won OGAE staggering FIVE TIMES, Norway won once (but also 11 years ago, so…), and Italy twice. The anomalies are France in 2019 (Seemone) and Poland in 2016 (Margaret). Just to add that Sweden was also 2nd in 2015, 2nd in 2016, 3rd in 2019, and 2nd in 2021. That’s NINE out of last ten editions being in Top 3. The exception was John Lundvik’s My Turn in 2018, but that also got a really good 6th spot. Norway and Italy also reoccur in top 5… Read more »
And then Sweden doesn’t win with songs that could have legitamately done well or even better in the contest. Take 2011 and 2012. I recently discovered Danny Saucedo. Most people agree he could have been Eric Saade’s replacement in 2011 and even won it – it was an EXTREMELY strong song…yet the OGAErs chose ANOTHER song to represent Sweden that DIDNT EVEN REACH THE FINAL OF MELFEST?! Where’s the logic there?! Sometimes I question what they are on!
Hold your horses! I am an OGAE member and like many of my colleagues, am neither snobby or snooty. I am proud of all the great work the organisation did in Liverpool, and beyond. I am not really interested in this type of “contest”, but having taken a quick look I am surprised Lithuania did not place higher.
You’re right about Lithuania, but how do you explain the bias towards Sweden (and maybe even Norway)? Are there Swedish people in each of the clubs?
Mello is a huge investment into Eurovision and bound to produce widely appreciated songs. Can be bit generic, though, and I found many more songs catchier than Air.
