Malta’s search for their Eurovision 2024 act is gaining pace. Broadcaster PBS has now revealed the 36 semi-finalists who will compete in Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2024, along with their song titles.

There are some familiar names among the line up, including past Eurovision and Junior Eurovision performers. Moira Stafrace appeared at the contest in 1994 as part of the duo Chris & Moira. Fans will know Eliana Gomez Blanco as Malta’s entrant for Junior Eurovision 2019, and she also competed in MESC 2023.

Note, the Kurt Calleja listed amongst the participants is not the same Kurt Calleja who represented Malta at Eurovision 2012.

MESC 2023 runner-up Ryan Hili is also back for another go, hoping to go one step further and secure the trophy.

We don’t have long to wait before we’ll be able to hear their songs. The semi-finals will be taking place over four weeks this autumn, with nine acts singing each week.

A lucky 12 of the singers will make it through to the grand final of Malta Eurovision Song Contest, which is set for January 2024. At the live show itself, the acts will be able to sit back, relax and nervously wait for the jury and public to make their decision. All their work will instead come in the weeks beforehand.

Ahead of the grand final, each finalist is required to film an artistic music video, which PBS will contribute €5,000 towards. Additionally, they will each record a live-on-tape performance on a specially dedicated stage — each act will have 60 minutes to record three takes, one of which will be selected.

During the grand final, both the music videos and live-on-tape performances will be broadcast. Thus, viewers will watch all 12 songs twice. Based on these, the jury and public will vote for their favourite, determining the winner of MESC and the act who will represent Malta at Eurovision 2024 in Malmö.

What do you think of the line up? Which semi-finalists are you rooting for in Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2024? Let us know in the comments below.

I am excited about Oxygyn, Nathan and Ryan, Stefan was also amazing last year but I hope he will have a better song this year so far these titles seem promising.

I am honestly excited for this year. It seems like it’s going to be an interesting year at least for them based on the song titles. Hope they will have a few gems in the selection like last time. I am so excited about the entries, particularly Nathan. He was my close second last year and Creeping Walls was just the perfect James Bond-esque ballad that was just captivating. I hope he’ll serve a similar entry this year that is just as high-quality. He has such an amazing voice and is so confident, especially considering how young he is. I… Read more »

The songs I’m most excited for are: Matt Blxck – “Banana” (this is a slightly scary title) Oxygyn – “Cloudmaker” (she has a nice voice) Nathan – “Ghost” (he could make the final last year AND he’s super young, so he has good potential) Ryan Hili – “Karma” (good vocals) Denise Mercieca – “Mara” (first she had ‘Boy’ and now it’s ‘Mara’ or in English, ‘Female’. I think instead of competing this is Aidan’s newest project.) Kurt Calleja – “Misunderstood” (if this is him) Haley Azzopardi – “Tell Me That It’s Over” (she was robbed last year) Eliana Gomez Blanco… Read more »

“The semi-finals will be taking place over four weeks this autumn, with nine acts singing each week.” When??

I’m most curious about the talent and “talent” behind the songwriting. MESC 2023 had a few real gems and I cannot expect any less from 2024. Go Malta!!

Nice to see this starting so soon, so less massive national selection season around February to March, of course I don’t follow every country’s selections, but it would be nice to get to listen songs in offer. Good luck!

Aidan, Brooke, and Jessika took a pause, and that’s okay. In this line-up we have enough talent to have a good show. Eliana Gomez Blanco, Ryan Hili, Moira Stafrace, Nathan Psaila, Daniel Caruana, Miriana Conte, and Matt Blxck being just some of the faces I am glad to see returning. But again, as per usual, my expectations for most of the songs aren’t sky high. I expect a lot of clumsy phrasing in English. But I hope that at least some of them defy the expectations and are actually great. Malta had a good song last year, and the last… Read more »

you guys watch out for cosette baldacchino. a legend in the making right there. i’m so happy she decided to participate, and if ylva & linda really wrote her song, then she has an easy win in her bag!

They are a mixed bag for me. Their formula is certainly very “Eurovisiony” and often old-school, but when one of their better compositions matches with a great performer, the result can be really good. Aldo Blaga with Embers (Romania 2022), Monika Ulrik with Momentum (Poland 2018) and Donata with Dreamer (Lithuania 2023) are the best examples. Of course, while I quite like these songs, I’m not saying they’d score a top ten in modern days. But qualifying is a main objective for Malta now, and a good tier Linda and Ylva song could do that. The issue is that their… Read more »

I’m not sure, but I read somewhere that they won’t perform live and use music videos instead just like Estonia’s pre-qualifications rounds.

Can you please like shut up for once? Why are you b*tching about at least one artist under every article? You don’t have to like an artist, but you also don’t have to be this attention seeker. It’s really damn annoying.
Also “bejba” is so last season. We moved on and you should too.

I forgive you for your useless ranting, but I wont let you go away with using random upper case letters with every word.
If anything I think you just choose whatever word came up from the “bar” over the keyboard on your phone.

I’m most excited for Moira. 30 years after she represented Malta in Dublin. 31 years after she was a backing vocalist in Millstreet. I’ll especially appreciate her appearance as she was one of the few Maltese entrants to miss out on the all-star reunion show featured as an interval in 2022. Chris was seriously ill at the time, so they sent a video message instead.

Straface is her surname, not “Starface” as it says in the above list, though of course that works too.

I expect she will get a lot of sympathy votes. Debbie Scerri (1997) was also a backing vocalist in Millstreet and Chris RIP was the “guitarist”.

and Rich Queen Emma keeps on slaying as we speak, supporting act for Maluma, supporting act for Christina Aguilera at Valletta Europride, having THE summer bop of the year with Benny Benassi (well 2nd mega summer bop next to Bejba of course)

wish Emma would also collab a fab acoustic ballad masterpiece with Greek’s wonderkid Victor Vernicos, they have seriously a lot in common too (musically too as Victor also can play the piano)
