Let’s get undressed! That’s not a command from us. That’s one of the familiar lyrics from Kim Cesarion’s 2013 mega-hit “Undressed.”

Now, with his clothes on and his ambition to re-launch his career guiding him, Kim is set to appear in Melodifestivalen 2024.

That’s according to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, who have added three more names to their ever-growing list of artists set to compete: Kim Cesarion, Medina and Maria Sur.

Melodifestivalen 2024 leaks: Medina, Maria Sur and Kim Cesarion

Medina

Let’s start with Swedish hip-hop duo Medina, which consists of Sam Rekik, 43, and Ali Jammali, 41.

After splitting for a few years, they reunited for Melodifestivalen 2022. They sang “In i dimman” and qualified for the final from Heat 4. In the final they climbed all the way to third place, behind Cornelia Jakobs and Anders Bagge. On top of that they hit #2 on the Swedish charts.

Maria Sur

Maria Sur captured the hearts of millions last year with her song “Never Give Up,” which captured her perseverance amid the ongoing war in Ukraine. Maria and her mother fled the country shortly after Russia’s invasion and headed to Sweden, where Maria continued to pursue her dreams of becoming a singer.

Ahead of the competition last year, she told us: “I’m so happy that I have this chance to share with people my story and this song about my dreams, about fighting for my dreams, about struggles with all of this. This is gonna be a message for people. Move on, keep working, never give up and follow your dreams. If you will do this nothing is impossible.”

She ended up winning Heat 2 ahead of Panetoz and placed ninth in the final.

Kim Cesarion

Kim Cesarion rose to prominence back in 2013 with the song “Undressed.” It reached the charts in countries across the Nordics as well as Australia, New Zealand and the USA and now has more than 88 million streams on Spotify.

He’ll compete with a song written alongside Mathias Andreasson and Albin Johnsen. The latter broke through with “Din soldat” in 2014 and has competed at Melodifestivalen twice — in 2016 and 2020.

SVT unemployment system is really doing everything for the sake of the same bunch of forgotten and non-essential names not to be pests for at least a month every year.

Medina’s new songs “Torka dina tårar” and “När krutet har lagt sig” from this year didn’t even chart, just look at their discography and you’ll see last time they were current was in 2012-2013. They’re as fresh as LMFAO with “Party Rock Anthem”

Who cares about charts? Is that the only thing that matters?

Because their album sales are even worse, if they lack popularity then it’s not much to hope for, when dated duos from years ago try to attract short 5-minute fame by competing in Melodifestivalen.

If you’re an artist then charts, album sales and so on are the things that tell if you’re outdated or not.

Well Smash Into Pieces never hit any charts before Melodifestivalen. Does that make them outdated? Not relevant?
Some artists do not want chart access, thet just want to release music

They hit charts once in 2009, at highest peak of 33 with the song “Fading”. So I’d say that’s pretty bad, considering they’ve released countless singles and 7 albums to date, next one coming in 2024. Is Moldovan singer Sasha Bognibov considered successful then, when he has released music and appeared on a national selection even more than Smash Into Pieces, released music and still performing? Not many record companies put trust into artists that just don’t sell, and it showcases more that Melodifestivalen produces one hit wonders that don’t quite get their career going, as their own made songs… Read more »

But they have released 7 albums and they fill up arenas across Europe. They have a tour right now. Is that not a sucesss? They had a career long before they took part in Melodifestivalen.
Their record company seems to have trust in them, enough to release 7 albums with them.
You seem to think only charts is the way to count sucesss. But many artists never reach charts yet have careers. So to say Smash Into Pieces is a one hit wonder because they have one song that mainstream audience liked is to diminsh their career

Theres no career to diminish here, they tour (not headlining alone) and have niche audience that isn’t enough to keep them going forever. Unkown band, small audience, one hit and not enough popularity to call them successful, maybe a band that makes ends meet assumably.

If that’s success then Casanovas (Melodifestivalen 2023) are even bigger success, they’ve charted with all of ther albums while headlining tours.

If they have performed since 2007 how can they just make ends meet?
They are not struggling, they do not do other jobs on the side.

Smash Into Pieces was actually formed in 2008. The band lacks popularity (airplay, streams & sales) so only source of revenue comes from concerts and their current tour they’re not headlining so only 50% of the revenue from there as it’s shared, and as you can guess 5 piece band needs income for each one, if they’d make around 100k a year it would mean 20k each minus taxes and so on. Making ends meet basicly, so as much as you say that airplay, streams, sales or hit singles aren’t important, they kinda are – unless one hit song is… Read more »

A bit off-topic, but have the first 15 names for Estonia’s national final been announced yet?

30 songs this year, instead of the usual 28. Five heats with six songs each, instead of four with seven. Two extra songs for people to complain about.

Has this already been reported? I can’t remember.

Not liking this line-up whatsoever, isn’t SVT embarrassed that after years of having 2,6k+ entries, it’s the same names that pop up as artists and songwriters?

Honestly I’m sick of these Aftonbladet “leaks” where 3 names are “suddenly” found out-of-nowhere and posted every now and then to sell magazines and to create hype, it’s just awful and it happens every year!

Latest song from Kim Cesarion that charted was in 2016, and its only peak position from Swedish charts was 74. He is a one hit wonder, if even that.

That’s not good, since it’s what SVT has been doing by giving same songwriters massive ammounts of spots on Melodifestivalen. We never get anyone new, songwriting is a form of art, but when only few get their chance to do so, it harms those who’d want to beging to show theirs.

Maybe if you think looklng at chart number is the only way to measure succees..
But not everybody looks for chart topper, that does not mean an artist is not sucesfull. He is a producer and writer and has several songs out. Really good too. They did not chart, so? That does not make him a laughing matter

So far but it remains 19 names to be revealed and I feel we will have returned artists in the mix too such as Anna Bergendhal, Eric Saade and why not Tusse or Frans. Loreen success may have woke up some ambitions in their mind, and Sweden or Italy are the only ones who are safe to host and to get at the same time a great result so it must motivate them again more, and they are not afraid by that.
The host curse is for everybody except for these 2 countries so…
