slimane france eurovision 2024

In 2015, he won the fifth season of The Voice: la plus belle voix as a 26-year-old. In 2024, as a 34-year-old, Slimane hopes to win again — this time as France’s Eurovision 2024 singer.

It’s safe to say that French Eurovision fans will be very happy. OGAE France — the official French Eurovision fan club — submitted Slimane’s beautiful ballad “Des milliers de je t’aime” to this year’s OGAE Song Contest. That song captures his ability to weave romance, longing and drama into a tune; it has a classic, timeless sound yet production pulls it firmly into 2023.

He’ll be singing the song “Mon Amour” (My Love), which premiered on Wednesday night at 20:30 Paris time on France 2. Writing in the YouTube description, he said:

“I wrote this song like a love letter I’m sending to all the hearts that will listen to it. Love. Everywhere. Always. More than ever. Together. Let’s go Eurovision!”

What will he do at Eurovision? We’ll have to wait a few more hours to find out.

Mon Amour! Slimane will sing for France at Eurovision 2024

France Télévisions revealed the news on France Inter — a major French radio station — on Wednesday morning. In his biography, they described his incredible journey from winning The Voice to conquering the music scene in France.

Indeed, after winning The Voice, Slimane’s first album À bout de rêves went straight to number one in both France and Belgium. He’s repeated that feat three times with his albums Solune, VersuS, and Chroniques d’un Cupidon.

Here’s what the broadcaster had to say.

“On May 14th, 2016, SLIMANE won the 5th season of The Voice in France.”

“Since then, his rise has been meteoric: With 2 million albums sold, 1 million spectators attending his shows, and nearly 2 billion streams worldwide, 5 NRJ Music Awards, and a Victoire de la Musique, Slimane has officialy announced to his 7 million fans on social media that he will proudly represent France at The Eurovision Song Contest 2024!”

“From the piano bars of Paris Pigalle, where he started, to his sold-out ARENA tours, the fabulous destiny of Slimane is a nod to perseverance, talent, and passion. Each of his musical performances is like a tidal wave of strength, vulnerability and love.”

“This exceptional singer-songwriter succeeded in forging an unbreakable and emotional connection with the audience.”

“On May 11th, 2024, this precious bond will lead him to the city of Malmö in Sweden where he will represent France in the Grand Eurovision Song Contest with his brand new track called ‘Mon Amour’.”

What do you think of France’s decision? Do you think that Slimane has the talent and charisma to win it all? Of all his songs, which is your favourite? Let us know what you’re thinking down below.

Could be Marco Mengoni of the year. Italian had better song, though. This one is too repetitive, one emotion over and over again. It depends on the staging, I think.

As a French who like a lot Slimane’s work and style, I must say it was a big surprise seing him taking the role (even if he already supported artiste from national finals). I feel the song is a bit less impactful, too “already heard”, than what he can do in his best but there is also the time restriction. The lyrics could clearly be better. On the other side, he is a performer with contests experience and his voice and artistic view are his big assets. To match the expectations, he will need the full package in May and… Read more »

Well, I won’t make any judgment about whether France could win next year because it is literally the only song out and it’s way too early to speculate, I’m with you of the same mind that we should have a first time winner, whoever it is.

Very to-the-point , love the subtle orchestration in the instrumental. The guy’s voice is beautiful as well. Rarely you hear such a raspy singer on ESC. I can’t talk about the quality of lyrics, obviously, because I’m not a speaker.

As always with every eurovision entry, some people love them and some don’t. Some spend a lot of time and energy in justifying their point of you on how bad this entry is, how ‘needy’ the character in the lyrics is. Well, breaking news for you, all artists are attention seekers and needy. It’s in their DNA! One can interpret what they want of the lyrics. It’s about how you make it your own. It doesn’t have to be understood exactly as per the words. It’s not all black or white. It’s about the many grey areas and life is… Read more »

I’m already a big fan of Slimane, I had to check and double-check when I saw the video on youtube because I didn’t want to get my hopes up over something that turned out to be a joke. I’m so glad France chose him. He deserves it, he’s an incredible artist and performer. I love the song, I understand why others might think it’s boring and not care for it though. But the song is everything I already love about Slimane’s music. I really hope he does well and makes France proud.

Just listened to it and I have to say, I think this could win! I can see it being in the top three at the very least! You have to bear in mind that the video was him singing live so that’s an instant w for France with the juries! He reminds me of Sam Ryder for some reason. And he wrote the song himself! With the right staging and revamped instrumentals live, this is a strong contender for the win!

Handsome man with a beautiful voice sings a typical french ballad, which is both classical and contemporary. The juries will probably like it, for me personally is Slimane better than Marco Mengoni this year. It could reach the left side of the scoreboard but not the high position like Barbara Pravi.

Bonne chance, la France !

My voting is 9 out of 12.

It is a nice song and I like it. The chorus is melodical enough for me to like it and the most important thing here is that Slimane has an amazing voice. He has an emotional voice with a very big range and can change the way he sings throughout the different parts of the song. It’s not reinventing the wheel by any means but it’s a nice start to the season. And I certainly like it more than La Zarra’s entry yet not more than Voila

Given an emotional, epic live performance he can certainly finish top 10. I don’t think it’s a winner as of now but who knows! Also I don’t remember a Eurovision song being released so early in the year!

I thought Slimane had a chance at winning in Malmo when he was announced as France’s artist. After listening to Mon Amour, I’m pretty certain this won’t win. This will probably land in the top 10 for Slimane’s vocals alone. If the staging is innovative, it could land even higher.

I hope Slimane’s participation encourages other big artists in France to try and represent their country.

Should be able to crack the top10! Nice ballad with a very good live performer. The song in itself is nothing special though. But it’s a safe, qualitative bet for France. Should get a top5 Jury result and a top15 televote result. What I appreciate is France’s willingness to show something different every year. 2021 – laid back subtle female ballad 2022 – over the top electro-folklo group in regional language 2023 – divaesque disco pop 2024 – male powerballad Of course you always find some clichés in these, in the lyrics especially (except for Alvan & Ahez). But it’s… Read more »

Amazing entry from France! But then againg my taste is more like the juries. Though if they nail the staging and don’t just plonk him on/next to the Eiffel tower, I think he might do well with the televote as well. The video should be a guidline for them.
p.s. I admit his name made me chuckle a bit – reminded me my favourite French film.

This is amazing – though I tent to be more on the side of the juries, but if they don’t plonk him on a Eiffel Tower and do the staging more like this video he should do well with the televote as well.

So France has the Junior Eurovision to organize but, because this didn’t keep them busy, in the meantime they select the artist, the song. They do the staging, the lighting, the live performance. Are they on steroids or what?

So bizarre to release a song so early. It’s like we are 6 months away from Eurovision. Someone at the French broadcaster must’ve just heard it and thought — can we use this and he was like “sure but I still gonna release next week”. Love his voice, the tone and the emotion. I find the lyrics quite simplistic and overwrought. Don’t love it as much as did Evidement and so many people thought that had winner potential and it always concerned me that she would come across as cold or too cool for the room and that ended up… Read more »

Bravo France! Couldn’t expect something less from Slimane, we already knew he is very good. The song it self is modern yet has some sort of classic “chanson” essence that makes it very french but differs it from previous ballads like Voila. Having not heard other entries, we don’t know how this will end up, but hey apart from the contest side Eurovision is about songs too- and this song is great. P.S. Thank god his vocals are good. Very French, as usual. A song without too many pretensions that is created to be enjoyed and performed live, in which Slimane is apparently impeccable. It differs from “Evidenmant” in that it is neither pretentious nor artificial. This pack reminds me a little of last year’s Italy pack, but Slimane’s voice and the song seem superior to me.

It’s not that much of a problem? It will have 0 affect on what position they will achieve in may. Most people tune in and will hear it on the show. With things like tiktok and spotify a song can chart at any time now like how ‘another love’ by tom odell suddenly became a world wide top charter again after 10 years. That means it could even potentially be a strategical good thing in these times since the song has half a year to reach people and go viral instead of two months. Hence why his label probably agreed… Read more »

I like it, but is it a winner? Way too early to tell. This feels like the earliest release for a competing Eurovision song that I have ever experienced. Even the last time an internally selected song was released first for eurovision was released in early December.

Actually, no. It has nothing to do with Sanja at all. I didn’t know her surname meant Little Wolf.

My user name is actually a punny reference to an arc word in Doctor Who, Bad Wolf, and my surname, which is actually Woolf in real life. In fact, I indirectly credit Doctor Who for getting myself involved with Eurovision because there wasn’t a full season airing in 2016 when I got into Eurovision so I had to occupy my time with something while I waited.
