After four presentation shows featuring 36 contestants, the Maltese public have now chosen the 12 finalists for Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

The announcement of the qualifiers was made during the latest episode of TV show XOW.

Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2024 finalists

The grand final is set for January 2024. At the live show itself, the acts will be able to sit back, relax and nervously wait for the jury and public to make their decision. All their work will instead come in the weeks beforehand.

Ahead of the grand final, each finalist is required to film an artistic music video, which PBS will contribute €5,000 towards. Additionally, they will each record a live-on-tape performance on a specially dedicated stage — each act will have 60 minutes to record three takes, one of which will be selected.

During the grand final, both the music videos and live-on-tape performances will be broadcast. Thus, viewers will watch all 12 songs twice. Based on these, the jury and public will vote for their favourite, determining the winner of MESC and the act who will represent Malta at Eurovision 2024 in Malmö.

The top 5 probably will be Ryan, Denise, Matt, Nathan and Sarah. One of them will win.

Another failing to qualify for Malta, I´m so sorry.

I hope that the Czech Republic will do it much better.

none of the 12 selected songs correspond to the required ESC level.
dominic cini – bewsa was a good option and for my taste a little bit ahead of bewsa was the act OXYGYN – cloudmaker.gives me little MARO-vibes but now game over for malta.

Matt Blxck would be a recipe for disaster and sort of Malta’s ‘Woki mit deim Popo’ or ‘Leto svet’. Just something to feel ashamed of for years to come.

With those entries, it will be a tough year for Malta anyway. But if they don’t select Erba’ or at least Miriana Conte, there won’t be any chance of qualifying for the Grand Final at all.

It would be the opposite. It would be like Pirates of the Sea where it does well yet is jokey.

leto svet was a little hit at the balticum.
the song has also a little bit different direction – more satirical & poltit things think so.
the banana song going more into the sean banan (copabanana) direction but in a very lousy amateurish way.

Erba by far the best in this list. But only in a very low level.

The only song I see potential in in terms of singer & song combo is Venom by Miriana Conte.

A bit confused by some of these choices….

My top 3

1. Denise
2. Ryan Hili
3. Erba

I thought Banana reminded me of not Subwoolfer but Sean Banan a few years back. Guess who is a co-writer……….
Wouldn’t be a good choice

Well well well. How dull! Ryan Hilli will surely win with a Eurovision paint by numbers beige ballad. Freya’s track (although I’m sure she’s fabulous) is an assault on the ears. And I’m sure Bananas has the backing track of Little Big ‘Uno’!!

All the others… completely forgettable.

Such a shame Malta.

I don’t think it would be the end of the world of Malta sent banana (Norway doesn’t have a monopoly on bananas, and this song is nothing like it). How many times has Malta sent a joke/bizarre entry? Hardly ever .. and if there was ever a quirky entry, it wasn’t as out there as this one. So my opinion is – if you’re failing again and again and again with decent songs, might as well go with something “all out” such as banana … At least if you fail yet again, you’re having fun while doing so! My opinion:… Read more »

Only six out of my personal top 12 have made it – In order: Denise, Nathan, Sarah, Erba’, Haley, Ryan. And I’d personally be wary to send Ryan as his song is not very instant nor it stands out. But he is a good singer. I’d go for Denise, Nathan or Sarah. Erba and Haley are okay too. Feels wrong to pass on Bewsa, Cloudmaker, and Breaking Bad. Especially all three. Matt Blxck and Greta Tude stand out, but so did Leto svet and O Julissi. Should this be the path for Malta? Honestly, I don’t know. They are ignored… Read more »

I personally find Greta’s song one of the most experimental bops this year. It’s a guilty pleasure. But it won’t have a widespread appeal unless, maybe, it goes all RuPaul drag race on the show. And even then, that won’t endear the heteros in the slightest.

The good so far IMO: a few decent songs among the field seemingly more Maltese talent than Swedish as compared to the past editions relatively new names and faces entertainment at the beginning of the season even if for practical reasons to give the necessary time to do videos for the “final” a national selection can be made a few shows with little production value with no prejudice to the quality of songs and performance should the songs and performance be ok. The bad IMO: 100% public vote meant that mostly joke acts and weak songs went to the final.… Read more »

If there’s one country that could really use a year off – or a gigantic reset it’s Malta. And that’s not about the artists even – going back into the vault wouldn’t harm them. Destiny, Chiara, Ira are just some to go back. But this national selection has no value, has not produced a single result in the past 20 years that justify it. It has come to the point where I have gone from waking up in the morning (Aus time) to watch – to essentially just waiting for the result to get disappointed. It very much appears that… Read more »

I wanted to say I am surprised Bewsa is not there but actually? After Malta did not appreciated Aidan for 2 years in a row? I am not. It literaaly had everything (as Aidan bad) and it would catapult them into the final. Yey they prefer pretty low quality balads and wannabe bangers that we heatd thousand times.
Sad but not surprising.

  • Breaking bad

While, I wish all 12 finalists Good luck In January, I have to cry fell at the uneven distribution of finalists from all four semifinals. Seriously, how come we end up with half the qualifiers from semi four, and no one from semi three qualifying.!? Why couldn’t we have the top three per semi? At least it would look fairer. Those semi three artist got seriously robbed.

I’ll make a top 12 later with the finalists, but I will be including an honorable mention section for the songs I liked that didn’t make it through.

With all due respect, I really want them to stay in the semifinal. Not because my favorites didn’t pass, but objectively, Banana and Topic, do they really think they will attract the audience with that? In my opinion, both troll songs are on the level of troll songs sent by Estonia and Latvia (and both always stays in sf). Gail, Nathan, Janvil, Haley, Lisa and Ryan, they are all excellent vocalists, but these were all on a similar or the same formula Malta already sent 65 times and stayed in sf.
