She’s the Georgian singer who made it all the way to the Top 12 of American Idol last January. And now Nutsa Buzaladze is going global once again — this time at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

The Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) revealed the news on Friday, giving Georgians plenty to talk about headed into the weekend.

Diehard Eurovision fans will know that Nutsa has been eyeing Eurovision for years. In 2017 she finished second in Georgia’s national final (behind Tako Gachechiladze) with her song “White Horses Run.” She defeated future Eurovision participant Oto Nemsadze in the same competition.

Nutsa Buzaladze is Georgia’s Eurovision 2024 singer

During her interview with me about an hour before the reveal, Nutsa revealed that she’d only found out she was the act yesterday — 24 hours before the announcement. She hasn’t yet chosen her song but has some ideas. What’s sure is that she wants to bring energy, which she repeated several times.

About Nutsa

At the end of 2016, the rising star sat down with wiwiblogger Rezo Mamsikashvili in Tbilisi at Cafe Lounge Claude Monet, where they shared coffee, laughs and a whole lot of love. By then she’d already won the New Wave music festival, competed on The Voice of Turkey (O Ses Türkiye) and dazzled on Georgia’s Got TalentYour Face Sounds Familiar and Dancing with the Stars.

Her success on The Voice — and her partnership with mentor and Eurovision 2009 singer Hadise — made her a recognisable figure on the streets of Turkey.

“When I was walking down the street after that contest they were like, ‘Oh this is Nutsa!’”

“Now [Hadise and I] have a friendship. She is such an amazing person. I’m really happy that I know her, because she’s such a star.”

Nutsa’s ambitions have only grown since then. She’s got a growing fan base in the United States thanks to her spin on American Idol‘s 2023 season.

She auditioned with Patti LaBelle’s “Lady Marmalade.” The judges were impressed by her ability to sing and dance at the same time, but Katy Perry wanted to focus on Nutsa’s gorgeous voice.

“Look, there’s a voice in there,” Katy said. “I think maybe it was turned up too hot.”

Nutsa then performed Whitney Houston’s “Greatest Love of All,” which led to three yes votes from Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie.

Are you excited that Nutsa has been internally picked? How far do you think she can go? Let us know in the comments box below….

in terms of my behaviour, well i just get irritated quite easily these recent times

Nutsa is a pretty woman, forget that name i called her then, with the right song (and for georgia the bar is always raised high for me personally, i hope she stays true to her own sound, and isn’t afraid to include some georgian lyrics if she wants to, might be a good thing in a 100% televote semi)

I loved Georgia’s song so much last year as a piece of art even if it wasn’t a competitive Eurovision entry. I hope they continue to produce unique entries, though a move back toward the center feels sadly inevitable.

My day couldn’t end any better. She was on my personal wishlist since her nf participation in 2017. We know she can sing, the only thing she needs is the right song and a good staging. I think we’ll see Georgia Georgia in the final after 8 years!

She sings super well! In Georgia like in Albania btw, I don’t know it must be in their DNA but they have all gorgeous and powerful voices. Welcome to Eurovision Nutsa and good luck!
So she still hasn’t the song, so we can guess that we will have the georgian song among the last this year…

Don’t know if it’s a gene thing but I wonder if there is a particularly strong music culture in those country, especially in Georgia. I mean look at JESC. Georgia always send incredibly good singer, no matter the quality of the song.
This plus the fact that Georgia is always doing its thing without caring of what is trendy or not. I really wish to the country to have a great result one day. Seeing them back in the final would be a nice first step but it would be amazing to see them in the top 10 (or more).

yes Georgia always sends authentic good artists

my faves so far are

2018 the Iriao GODS of the Universe
2019 Daddy Oto with his Varada Varada banger
2020 and 2021 King Tornike with his poetry
2022 Circus Mircus quirky bop
2023 queen Iru with her playing with english words to make it ethnic

This is probably not fair, but for me, appearing on American Idol only takes away credibility, it does not add to it. Still, she seems very talented and I hope the right song comes her way.

Inspired by her coach Hadise , she should come with a R&B not a ballad so she’ll have higher chance

R&B gives you higher chance than a ballad? Why and since when?

So basically she is a professional talent show contestant…she has been doing these shows for years but for what?

I dont know how she managed to do American Idol (good connections?) But it did not give her fame or discography.

I bet Georgia will buy her a Swedish song and SJB as stage director.

You’re right, but when the truth is this bad people online tend to see you and your comment as negative, when in reality you’re just portraying that – a reality.

It can only mean that they know it’s the reality and they hate it that i call it out as it is. I am not saying she is no talented, she is of course. But she’s been in like 5-6 talent shows and her career never took off…

It’s called to be biased then. Partiality is so ugly to see. The way you treat some artists is disgusting, your toxicity is vomitive. You’re not anymore credible. I don’t know go to sleep until May and let the artists in peace. Spamming the wiwi comment section is your passion? If you think you will have influence on something by doing that here… keep dreaming, keep wasting your time…I’m must be too kind but I feel pity for you. You’re doing such a great publicity for Mustii and Boris and some others, if I was them I would be so… Read more »

yes i like Emma, and no she doesn’t pay me to like her if that is what you’re thinking i just love her feel good sound and to go with a feel good anthem was her choice okay, but even if that was a MF reject she made it her own, gave it her own authentic touch, styled it as her own with her EP I Am Emma (of which she and a maltese team created colours in the dark with slightly slowed down bits of the IAWIA instrumental btw) Emma isn’t an Aisel whom nowadays avoids X My Heart… Read more »

Says a mirror mirror on the wall. At the time Georgia was governed by a pro-European coalition, Lithuania had been in contact with its representatives. They literally said Kartvelians want their country to be called Sakartvelo instead of Georgia. And so the government of Lithuania changed the name from Georgia (Gruzija) to Sakartvelo (Sakartvelas) to support the Kartvelian aspirations for integration with Europe.

I’d like to add that she also competed in the Russian adaptation of “All Together Now”, made all 100 judges stand up for her performance of Radiohead’s “Creep” (got 99 in her first performance as well) and made Sergey Lazarev go nuts for her
She’s the real deal, Georgia isn’t messing around, she could be a winner if they give her the right song
