This week we’re in Benidorm for Spain’s Eurovision national selection. Semi-final 2 took place on Thursday night, with another eight acts competing for a spot in the Benidorm Fest 2024 final. Our eyes are still burning from all that fire!
The show lit it up from start to finish. And from the glam emerged four qualifiers. They are: st. Pedro, María Peláe, Jorge González andAlmácor.
The eliminated acts are: Roger Padrós, Marlena, Yoly Saa, and Dellacruz.

What do you think of semi-final 2? Do you believe any of these acts could go on to win the grand final? Let us know in the comments below.
I know how to solve this issue: st. Pedro or Jorge. Spain could send st. Pedro singing and Jorge and his dancers dancing in the background instead of those boring ladies. Preferably in boxers only. That’s the receipt for success in may
Meh, I’m not fond of any acts this year.
I think St. Pedro has the most potential to do well in Malmo, but only if he fixes his staging to replicate his music video. Sophia Coll has a great song too, but she needs to drastically improve her vocals, staging and choreo before Malmo.
Something is seriously wrong with the voting system. Jorge won both the demoscopic and Televote with 40 points each. That adds up to 80 and is supposed to be 50% of the vote. If the Jury are supposedly the other 50%, why was their winner given 94 points?! It’s more like the jury have 60% swing on the overall vote!
The jury awards 432 points in total: each juror hands out 2-4-5-6-7-8-10-12 points = 54 points in total. Eight jurors x 54 points = 432. Demoscopic vote and televote each hand out 216 points: 16-20-22-25-28-30-35-40. Total that’s 216 points. So yes it does add up that jury gives 50% and public vote totals 50% too, but indeed the breakdown in points is a bit weird. I get why they don’t want to translate the percentage of the televote into points, and there are other national finals who work with a set of points (Portugal, Ireland, Serbia to name a few),… Read more »
Actually María Peláe would be third with 135, so it would change things a bit.
Why was the televoting and demoscopic votes mostly in multiples of 5? It’s like they’re setting it so that the public can’t decide the winner from the get-go. Regardless of actual figures, I firmly believe Jorge had the best vocals, dancing and live performance, so why was he given THIRD WORST when there was at least Marlena who was worse than him in terms of vocals? Was it because of his song and they weren’t watching the live performance? To me it’s the most obvious case of the jury trying to screw the results so that Spain can’t send something… Read more »
My guess is that they think these numbers are easier? Don’t know really, but I think you might be taking it a bit too far in your theories. Btw Caliente isn’t that Spanish, it’s a latin song as well with a couple of flamenco inspired dance moves. I don’t think it’s that more representative of Spain than SloMo or Dos extraños. Eaea was, however.
St Pedro will win. The jury loves him and so does the audience. No suspense unless the jury decides to change their minds on Jorge or Angy :/
They could obviously improve their performances
Spain please please send St. Pedro, buena suerte
I will never understand the selection in with the audience/citizens (who pay to vote and who also pay the country’s ESC participation through taxes) can’t decide their own representative, and a few foreigners (“professionals”) decide everything. Get ready for the final where Jorge will destroy the competition in demo. and tele. but end up being destroyed by the juries, and this time public go for even bigger riot, throwing tomato at jurors haha
in which
And the jury result doesn’t even make sense in terms of points. 94 is their highest score and that’s supposedly 50% of the overall vote but then Jorge won the other two votes totally 80 but that’s not the other 50% overall?!
ST. PEDRO !!!
Who do I want to win? One of the three, Jorge, Angy or St Pedro.
Who will probably win? St Pedro or Nebulossa.
I have Zorra on Spotify. However, the live performance didn’t convince me, especially with those male dancers! Please scrap them and give us three or four old people dancing funny dances and it’ll be iconic I swear!
I guess I can already make this prediction about the final result: 8th place: Miss Caffeína; deserved finalist, but it ends there. I think everyone likes this but no one is passionate enough about it. 6th/7th: Almácor and Sofia Coll; both of them hyped by the fandom (Almácor by the Spaniards, Sofia by the foreigners) but not strong enough to really be in contention for the top 4. 4th/5th: Angy and María Peláe: great entries with their own character and good support, just not enough to be in the mix to win. 2nd/3rd: Nebulossa and Jorge González: excellent performances, I… Read more »
I’m hoping for St. Pedro! Allthough I really like Zorra and Caliente as well.
Who would have expected than in the same Festival where jury gave the victory to Chanel against the public vote, the public vote supported Caliente against the jury?
So impredictable!
I did not like Valiente but I have to accept that Jorge’s performance was supreme, I don”t understand Marlena getting more jury votes than him.
My favourite last night was St Pedro and it could be that he wins it all. I just hope that he looks more directly and more often to the camera.
Special mention to the specialized press and their dillusional opinion about Almacor’s performance.
The jury of these shows shouldn’t be in the arena but in a peaceful room watching all the performances on TV (as the esc jurors), the rendering on TV is the most important for Eurovision, because honestly on TV Angy was better than Nebulossa and Jorge was largely better than Almacor or Marlena for example.
The jury is a bit biased by the live audience so to be in a separated room would avoid that and would avoid for them to get booed directly in their faces.
And I still don’t get why the local press/youtubers have overhyped Almacor performance that much, the reactions were crazy, he had already won Eurovision if you listened to them…a bit delusional imo.
They probably only cared about the special effects.
It’s because he’s a massive TikTok star so huge interest has been generated. There were also a huge production value put into the staging of his song from a lighting perspective.
I swear though the live audiences were more supportive of Jorge and the ones the televote did indeed vote up?
St.Pedro could be this year’s Salvador Sobral!
If Salvador was singing to women he was peeping through windows
Lmao see you in May when he get 2 points
So this is what I said on the comments section 1 month ago: I can see Jorge Gonzalez caliente winning because there’s a SloMo vibe to it where you can see it being more of a performance song where you see where the dance beats come in and you know he’s gonna be able to sing live, hit that big note at the end and elevate a basic song. SO MY TAKE IS NOW THIS: Jorge just needs to adjust the feel of the dance so it’s still sexy but less Legendary/DragRace in its vibe and instead more Magic Mike.… Read more »
The part of Caliente potentially winning Benidormfest because of its performance in a Chanel type of way, is what I said back in November when the songs were released. But, back then, I was hated for saying it. I was called delusional and people said I shouldn’t compare Jorge and Chanel.
Now, when the performance actually happened, people are suddenly saying changing their views on his winning chances.
Though, I’d like Pedro to win, Jorge winning Benidormfest is also appreciated.
I also thought Jorge could win and was hounded. The demoscopic and televoting result speaks for themselves.
But looking at the jury score Idk.
While I appreciate the message of Zorra and the beauty of Dos Extranos, both are better studio versions than live versions. If either of these semi-final winners win Benidorm Fest and go to ESC, as they are now they’re not going to do well. Angy and Jorge are the two best songs to entertain viewers and to get them to vote for them.
I did not understand the hype for Dos Extranos but when St Pedro opened his mouth for the first time…I understood why.
Zorra? Fair play.
Angy or ST Pedro who do u prefer?
Definitely St Pedro
Angy!
Angy, far better live performance.
I wouldn’t mind either but Angy would instantly connect more with audiences at home…though St Pedro could pull off a Salvador Sobral if he plays his cards right!
St. Pedro ftw!
I’m Spanish myself, but OMG Spanish eurofans are so basic. Booing the jury because they didn’t score Jorge’s song well… Literally nobody in Spain liked Jorge’s song up until he showed up half-naked and then suddenly became the nation’s favorite.
And the same Spanish YT channels that have been trashing ‘Caliente’ ever since it came out are now crying that the juries have ruined the chances of ‘their big favourite’ lol
He sung and danced well!
I am sorry, but second semi was possibly even worse than first. Overall, this was on the level of Malta preselection. The sound was off, most performed like amateurs. Last year I enjoyed Benidorm (not the winner tho), but this… I really hope that Angy will win, because she is the only chance for Spain to avoid last place. St. Pedro is toilet break, Nebulossa might have some appeal like Serhat, as a meme. This was very bad. Let’s hope they will get a better sound mix in the final and save the show but I doubt it.
I want to dislike Jorge and his Caliente… but this has everything to be my guilty pleasure of the year. I can see all the wrong things in his song, I understand those that dislike it, but I buy all about this potential disaster. I didn’t expect enjoying it as much as I did.
This semifinal was a huge improvement! I loved three of the acts in particular, and they all made it! Yay! María Peláe is EXACTLY my type of song, soooo dramatic, and the, uh… I’m gonna go with Nudist Back-Up-Dancing Cult Sacrificing Themselves For Their Goddess-style staging was top shelf stuff, lmao. Love love loved it. St Pedro was really nice too! I loved the music, the staging was polished, and he’s super charismatic! A genuinely solid option. Jorge González stood the HELL out, omg. Like I said above, I love dramatic entries, and this was exactly that that. Entertaining to… Read more »
Nebulossa, Jorge and Angy are the most impactful acts of this Benfest season, one of them should win imo.
Roger deserved the final hands down…
Maria one of my fav pre contest was good but didn’t convince me enough.
San Pedro I’ve never clicked with this song and tonight didn’t change that.
I don’t see how St Pedro for the jury was better than Roger or Jorge… what are their real criterias, I don’t get it.
Almacor ok the effects are cool but the song remains very bland, and vocally he doesn’t give enough at all, Roger should be in the final instead imo.
Almost every line of this was off
I found Jorge’s performance very impressive actually! No way he should win Benidorm Fest in my opinion, but I can see why it got to the final.
st. Pedro all the way though, when it comes to winning!
i hope st pedro or angy ends up winning, i think they’re really good
i’m rooting for angy either way, but i think based on the votes tonight st pedro is winning
I love the song of St Pedro – “Dos Extraños”…I understand why some of you dont like it, its not contemporany…but it’s a beautiful song for me…
jorge gonzalez reminds me of tanxugueiras. The jury ruined their chances. I go for Angy, Nebulossa or St Pedro but its staging is very weak. Can Jorge create a surprise on Saturday at the jury level?
But that is not posible.tanxugeiras is typical folk galician song and jorge is mix of latín and spanish pop music as Ricky martin or Chayanne. For us nothing to do with the 2 songs
I doubt it based on previous years jury results, they were usually somewhat the same. But I’m just gonna hope for some surprises and maybe the juries got scared of the revolt of the audience today for their points to Jorge lmao.
I think there will be some pressure on the juries re Jorge after the booing and the fact that he topped televote and demoscopic vote. Yet I think he has too much to catch up to secure victory…
It is not fair that the maximum the two public votes combined can give to a participant is 80, while the juries go up to over 90. The juries will always decide
Jorge is no winner potential tbh. I don’t get what you are all upset about
That’s not my point since I don’t particularly like any song from BF this year tbh, but what I’m trying to say is that even when Chanel won the juries she got 51 in jury votes, and Tanxugeiras got 60 in public vote with both publics voting the most for them so it was more “tight” as a difference. This time it really shows the jury’s power.
Oh for sure! 94 isn’t 50% it’s more like 60!
It’s not about winning, it’s about fairness. The way it’s set up, they’ll just keep seeing the jury shoot down their fave over and over again, never allowed enough votes to make any difference. Seems like an understandable thing to be upset about.
This! But the part that annoys me most is how arbitrary the point allocation is for the demoscopic and public votes: It’s always 16, 20, 22, 25, 28, 30, 35 and 40 points. Not only does that cancel out a major public vote, but the numbers are so random! They increase by 4, then 2, 3, 3, 2, 5 and 5. Why!?
There is a rationale, that they give half the points of the jury total. The jury has 8 member who give 2-4-5-6-7-8-10-12; so eight times 54 point = 432 points. Both the televote and the demoscopic vote give 216 points. If they would be really fair, the point allocation should be 8-16-20-24-28-32-40-48, but I guess they thought that the gap between the top 3 (8 points) would be too big? Or these numbers too confusing?
Maria and George had stunning staging. But I still have St. Pedro’s song on repeat…
Based on the actual performances, we have:
1 – Maria
2 – Angy
…
The rest.
St Pedro is still my favourite studio version.
The staging was perfect tho. What’s the problem. He was vocally the best out of both semi finals
It didn’t feel emotional at all to me, and the dancers ruined it.
I felt emotional watching it and St Pedro’s song was in my bottom three!
The dancers didn’t match the song imo. Almost as if it was a number from the musical Chicago.
My top 8 of the Benindorm fest Final:
1. Nebulossa – “Zorra” (9/10)
2. Angy – “Se Quién Soy” (8/10)
3-8. I really don’t care. Most of the entries this year left me indifferent, unfortunately.
Oh, st. Pedro did even better than Blanca Paloma did with jury. I don’t wanna say that it was undeserved cause the song is good and his vocals were on point, but Angy’s performance felt far more personal and she got only 62 points from jury. He’s not gonna do well at ESC with such staging package, let alone win lol.
Angy won’t even get 62 points in total in May.
I just ask myself would he really stand out beside acts like Gåte? No way.
Spain should be happy if they get double digit points. Zero points is possible sadly, only Angy might get like 20+
I actually think Gate would flop harder in May. You can’t song the chorus can you?
I wouldn’t count him out when people said the same thing about Salvador Sobral. He was in most people’s bottom five in 2017 remember but then he performed live and that all changed!
Jury has way too much power and placing Jorge that low screams corruption and an attempt to stop him from going through. The gays in the audience better do something on Saturday cause these people want to send entries that will end up bottom 5
“The gays in the audience better do something”… It is a freaking song contest, not Stonewall… chill
I do feel like st. Pedro has the potential to go top 10 (in the 10th position lol) if 1) it ends up being a really weak year for ballads 2) the juries really appreciate it. That being said I cannot see a world where Slimane doesn’t eat him up with both juries and televote
Almaia entered the chat
Very that, but this year ain’t no 2018 tho
Slimane will eat anyone in that genre.
If Ryk goes to Eurovision for Germany I Fear he would eat both St Pedro and Slimane
With a stunning staging, Ryk’s got the winning song in his hands.
Top 10 worst results in history possibly. That song is so dated and bland
There’s a world where Silimane and St Pedro will end up both doing well since Pedro has jury appeal so could get 2nd or 3rd but then the other songs are catchy and wild and he will stand out quite well being so delicate.
The gays in the audience better do something??
I am gay and Spanish and I think Jorge’s song is tailor made to please a gay audience. It IS so blunt, so simple, so dated.
I’m straight and I’m 100% sure he’s targeting women. The song mentions a ‘seniorita’
Or maybe they did not like him that much. I did not like him that much. Why if they did not vote for what you like It is “corruption”. Jorge’s performance was so bluntly wannabe gay (he IS straight btw) that It feels a bit ridículous. Why would a straight singer present such a gay-ish performance so full of clichés?
Ever heard of Madonna? Katy Perry? Let the guy feel himself, as long as he’s not trashtalking gay people behind the scenes then what’s the issue?
It’s possible he still wants to target women. But women do like the chests.
As a straight white male I also felt angry with the results! I felt Angy!
Well that was an absolute dumpster fire, deeply unserious. Spain went from peak to trough fast.
People in semifinal 1: “Boo! Televoters are out of touch.”
People in semifinal 2:”Boo! Juries are out of touch.”
In my opinion the jury were out of touch in BOTH cases. The Spanish have taste. Let them de ice, not an international jury.
Benindorm Festival. Such a fantastic example of a proper music Festival… Such an atrocious example of a supposedly “fair” voting system.
It’s terrible. The only good thing about it is that they do it out in the open. I hate it when other NFs just announce the results and don’t even reveal any points.
Tbh the juries were right tonight. I understand that the gay club in the audience loved Jorge but the jury in Eurovision is not based on gay clubs so yeah. The jurors are trying to vote for the songs that are Eurovision competitive not what do I like personally…
In a straight white Christian conservative male and I love love love Jorge’s performance!
If they flop again they should seriously think about what’s wrong cause BF is obviously not bringing them the results they want.
Is it required to be gay and unemployed to be at the audience??
I laughed way too loud at this.
and be over 30 as well ig
It’s Spain, everyone is gay and unemployed, Jack.
Here we work not as you that only hate
And bald
And able too boo.
*to boo
Much better semi. I think Jorge was great, he said he was inspired by Chanel and it was like a great pastiche! Unlike others who pretend they invented the dance break 😉
Congrats to the finalists. Rooting for St. Pedro and Maria on Saturday, it will be a great show for sure.
St Pedro or Zorra to win on Saturday
Please yes to stPedro and no to Zorra(love dancers thou)
Replace the dancers with old people!
ANGY
What a mess. The results are HILARIOUS. They really need to change the voting system next year
That’s what they say every year. I wonder if there are still people around who think Tanxugueiras would have done as well as Chanel in Turin.
My top 4 qualified. I really don’t know how the hell the jury tanked Jorge so much. I mean come on, the staging, stage presence/charisma + song is there, he just needs to level up his vocals and then we’ll have it…
Almacor got more jury points than Caliente… like explain it for me please
Because Almacor’s song is much better
Maybe in terms of studio quality. But live Jorge is miles ahead of Almacor. For me, Jorge’s song actually isn’t worse than SloMo (unpopular opinion I know).
Yeah I prefer Caliente as a song rather than Slo Mo.
Did u hear them vocals?
Exactly. I mean Jorge wasn’t a 10/10, but at least he hit the notes he sang, he danced, and he even slayed the vocals at the ending. He didn’t deserve the full points but he also didn’t deserve 6th place…
His vocals leveled up at the end there!
Of course putting a Dominican and a Venezuelan as jury members would lead to the latin song to be the most voted. I hope the juries are formed by musicians from Spain next year.
Oh I didn’t realize that! but the rest of jury had Pedro high so
He got 7 12p and 1 10p
I can rest assure you that has more to do with what RTVE must have told the juries to go for instead of latino bias per se. Don’t underestimate our ability to love having a good time lol
You’re been racist…and also the international jury voted for them, and there were a polish, an english and I dont think they used to listen to bolerosss…
Sure, cause the other songs sound very “spanish”
Jorge almost not qualifying cuz of the juries is criminal, he should have won tonight based on that performance. He had the most complete eurovision package. Like did they see the performances? At least the demoscopic vote and the televote had it correct.
The song is not it tho. And that dance break was giving nothing
I feel the complete opposite for some reason.
Feeling good for once having my favorites to qualify)))
What did people like in Jorge’s performance ? Personally I found it quite bland, like a cheap and low-cost “Slomo”. I hope for a st.Pedro victory, or Almacor but seeing the results from tonight, he has literally no chance of winning.
Nipples.
He can sing, giving us a high note at the end, starts off with pretty good staging and the song has potential for even greater staging, plus he is charimatic.
I see. Personally, I didn’t feel all of this at all. It reminded me of “Quiero Arder” from Agoney from last year (“Quiero Arder” was better, though), a bland and cheap male dance pop song, and the choreo wasn’t even that good, I thought.
Quiero Arder as a performance yes is more professional but the singer was hated by the Spanish firstly for being too anti-Christian but secondly being full of himself live. Jorge seemed liked a nice fellow and still managed to give a charismatic and fun performance.
That’s right. The song and dance break tho is giving nothing
His looks were definitely the best part. Luckily st.pedro is also fun to look at with a quality song to top it off
Come on now, he delivered the whole package. He danced well, sang well, and had a fully realized staging that worked for the song, and none of the qualifiers had all three (besides maybe Nebulossa but I don’t believe people will give her a fair shot). st. Pedro could get a proper good staging if he goes to Eurovision but inferring he did better than Jorge today is a STRONG statement ngl
I’ll give you the statement that he has a way better song tho
Finland 2017, Ireland 2015 and Portugal 2018 are all masterpieces and look at where that got them. I would much rather a country get a good placement with a song I don’t personally like but that is competitive, than seeing them get a terrible position with a great song and give up on Eurovision because the televote doesn’t appreciate what they send
St.Pedro did WAY better than Jorge just song wise
I honestly preferred it as a song to Slo Mo, didn’t objectify women and had great safe dancing with a charismatic singing giving us a great moment at the end. A full package that can only be improved at Eurovision.
I’m happy. The right four went through, even if Jorge did not deserve to top two of the votes. Almácor seems like a very nice guy, I’m happy for him.
Jorge absolutely did. Almacor struggled vocally. Something was off, as much as I love him, his song and personality and LOVE LOVE LOVE the electronic staging, something was missing.
It is not a vocals contest.
No but something felt missing to the point where it was obvious.
Damn the general public is so basic. Well I was surprised that Almácor is actually not that much of a threat apparently on Saturday and I guess that St Pedro has the best chance to win given the jury will probably go for him. Let’s not forget that Chanel also went to Eurovision thanks to the jury!
If Jorge gets Tanxugueiras-ed once again Spain is gonna blow up in flames lol
Think it’s not the case. Most like St Pedro too and would understand.
Good, to make RTVE change the voting system.
Not really a Tanxus situation. They had support from the get-go. Literally nobody in Spain liked Jorge’s entry until he showed up half naked.
Spain is gonna be…CALIENTE…
Jorge had the full package. He could sing, dance and had a great staging concept with a wow moment at the end. If he polished it a bit more, he could win, but odds are he most likely won’t because of this TERRIBLE 50% jury system and the televoting and demoscopic split up so much!
He’s a good performer but his song is very basic
Basic works of you can perform live. His staging was a concept that can be expanded upon live.
I notice you don’t mention the actual SONG.
The song is average but it’s the kind like Slo-Mo that blows up live. Even Slo-Mo wasnt a very good song.
Not a very good song but better than Caliente
I prefer Jorge because he gives women what they want instead of objectifying them!
St Pedro would’ve looked beautiful in his visualizer video outfit. I hope, it’s still hanging in his closet…
