After three semi-finals we were down to the last 9 acts in Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix 2024. After several hours of Norwegian spectacle, Gåte emerged victorious with “Ulveham“.
Among tonight’s finalists we found Eurovision alumni KEiiNO and Margaret Berger, but the bookmakers’ favourites for now are folk-rock group Gåte – who had to rewrite their lyrics during the week, because some of them were taken from an old Norse poem.
Tonight we found the winner, and the decision was split between an international jury counting for 40% of the result, while the public vote counted for 60% of the result.
While Eurovision 2019 stars KEiiNO managed to rock up the most votes from the international juries, Gåte manage to earn a big set of points with the televoting public. Only six points separated the two acts in the end!

Are you happy with the results? How will Gåte do at Eurovision? Let us know down below.
I feel like this SHOULD be something I’d love. It has a cool metal/rock sound with traditional Scandinavian string sound mixed. However whenever I try to give it a shot, when I tell myself “I will LOVE it this time!” or “I’ll finally see what everyone else is seeing!” I just start skipping through it or turning away all together. I think the issue is just how overwhelming it is. You have to be in the right mood, which sure could fit for Eurovision but outside of that context I just skip it. Maybe with different staging, better camera cuts… Read more »
Honestly. This can win Eurovision. Amazing performance.
I’m so happy that this has won a very competitive MGP and will represent Norway in Malmö! It has a unique mystical feel, combining Nordic folk and rock, and the performance is absolutely captivating. Sure, it will divide opinions and I know that not everyone will like this but it’s impossible to go unnoticed and this is a good sign. I’m very confident that this will do very well, probably with both votes, and for me it’s an early contender for the victory. Best of luck to Gåte!
Combine Nordic folk with the caranberries and then let someone try the song in a contest for primary school. She didn’t win. But apparently she went to ESC anyway. Maybe people who don’t understand the language might enjoy the “mystery” in the language barrier.
Don’t get it
A “mute” button would be great about now . . . .
Personally, I don’t believe America will succeed!!!!.
And so I ask you, Deban Aderemi, how do we save all Troye Sivans from Australia, And All Troye Sivans From America.
I think Norway is going to secret garden it.
It would be an utter disaster if the song wasn’t in Norwegian.
I don t see Norway this year in TOP 10 (same as they choose Keino).
WOW. First time watching the song. This is EV stage ready. Ticking many boxes, visually and vocally. Norway are coming for the top 5
Norway! I’m in LOVE with this performance. From even the semi’s, this gave me CHILLS.
Love Keiino – but this one I stopped what I was doing and was so drawn in. It’s beautiful. It personally gave me top 5/winners vibes, but I am more into rock in this form. I hope Europe can enjoy as much as me and give them a fantastic spot.
MGP was such a wonderful show, and they were all great options in their own way – well done!
Ohhh, and i forgeot to mention:
And here comes another ha mas te rror supporters from a clueless scandinavian country, what a shame for europe.
But, it wont help you, Eden Golan from israel is in the house and she comes to win it, why? She will be the best singer in the contest, wait and see….israel will win it despite all the hatred against it! In your face ter ror supporters!
So bashing te rror supporters is not a good thing? Good to know norway….
Wait until the muslim jihadists you entered to your countries as “immigrants” will teach you a lesson, then talk…but dont ask for israel help when it haooens, and it will…you will get 0 help
With all due respect, this kind if statements doesn’t belong here.
Please stop!
Why their comment hasn’t been removed is really shocking. Wiwi… please moderate these forums accordingly. These comments are unjust and hateful.
No i will not…..i believe that some people understand what is ha mas and support israel but the majority are clueless and support the “weak” side without understanding what they support, this group are definately support ha mas so yeah, they are te rror suppirters, reality and truth hurts
It’s okay, we get that you support gen o side…
You see? Exactly what i said, a te rror supporter and a liar, otherwise you wouldnt use this word against israel, ter ror supporter scum
Clearly YOURE the terra supporter. Anyone who speaks out against you is accused of the same. Seriously pathetic
Definately not everyone…you wont see comments like that in czech, poland, hungary and many more, it mostley scandinavian countries and ireland…how eady is to bash a country even if you are clueless isnt it? Sk i do the same to you…not nice ahhh? Well it works in both directions
Why is everyone else ‘clueless’ because they don’t agree with your opinion???? Are you off your medication? You really need to take a break from these forums. Aside from this, people can see through all the Israeli B.S. news crews are picking up all round the world and even artists across the world are speaking out. You’re probably calling them all liars too because it doesn’t work with your narrative. Unfortunately for you, most of us are pro-life. It doesnt matter who you are or where you are from, but if you’re going to go full severe on a small… Read more »
Wtf is u talking abt? H4m4s supporters and those who are against Israel disgust me, but your comment is so messed up
No its not…i believe that some people understand what is ha mas and support israel but the majority are clueless and support the “weak” side without understanding what they support, this group are definately support ha mas so yeah, they are te rror suppirters, reality and trutg hurts…
No! People who are speaking out against Israel aren’t doing so in favour of H4m4as you blind fool. They’re speaking out because of the relentless attacks they are doing on that place that I won’t mention. For a country who went through similar during the war, they sure do like to do it to others. Gen a side.
And by your logic, that means you support the gen a side.
Check the group what this te rror supporters group supports tgen crjtisize my comment…
You’re such a great representation. For those that you stand up for. You’re just as mental. Clearly. Lol
One question to you: do you believe that all Palestinians should die? Because that it what your conservative government has stated… Even infant babies in hospitals deserves so someone said. Do you agree with this statement?
No, but that’s what H4m4s (whom you support) does think when putting civilians as human shields and stating they want to get rid of Israel
You sound just like Gil. Are you the same person???
Just because someone doesn’t support the gen o side that Israel is doing doesn’t mean they support the other terra wrists, so you don’t have to accuse anyone who speaks out against Israel for being the supporters of H4m45 when it’s clearly not true.
I’ve criticized Israel too, but your criticism and that of Stian come off as covert antisemitism and/or H4m4s – enabling. You never mention those mfs – conveniently, despite using their narratives to criticize Israel, unless someone calls you out on your bs.
And no, I’m not Gil, I come from Mexico lol
Where is the song?
Dint think it can enter top 10
No !
Not my type of song but good luck; after a while the song becomes a bit boring.
There is alot of talk about boycotting this year’s ESC if Israel is participating. Why is hardly anyone talking about boycotting the Olympis in August for the same reason?
Surely there is talk about this, but here its a Eurovision blog
At least in Norway there has been several demostrations for a boycott outside NRK and talks about this in the media. As far as I know, a boycott of the Olympics in August has not even been mentioned in Norwegian media.
So much money involved in the Olympics the sportsmen and women are not willing or expected to boycott while the musicians are more expected to boycott the ESC?
Probably because people use the ESC to spread political messages and they don’t at the Olympics.
This is so delusional, the Olympics have been a political tool for so long too
Because no one watches the Olympics anymore
I watch it.
Can we talk about how great Carola still sings (she was interval act)?! I think she participated first time with Främling in 1983 or something. It’s crazy she still can sing like this! Like her as a person or not as an artist she is amazing.
Lmao Norway is the weirdest country in Europe, they always manage to choose the wrong song. Its embarrasing at this point. Keiino would win the Eurovision televote so easily.
So was Keiino the wrong song in 2019?
So happy that Gate won. Ulveham is mystical, magical and powerful. Loving the ancient norse energi in the song. Feel bad for Keiino but if you are an returing artist you need to bring something better.
Gratulerer Norge! For both the show and preselection, and the winner! Gaate deserved to go to Malmö. It’s bold, powerful, storytelling-based, with Norwegian language and folk elements, FANTASTIC! Now, if this is going to win Eurovision or flop, that’s another story. If it manages to go through the televote-only semifinal, it will go far. My concern (dread the possibility but I feel it’s a scenario) is that it may not be perceived for what it is with the first listening (when the masses hear it for the first time). Last year I did not like Spain’s entry for a reason… Read more »
I don’t know why people compare Ea Ea and Ulveham. This is melodic, captivating, mystical, better performed vocally while Ea Ea js just noise and repetitive. With the songs we have so far Gate wins ESC on the landslide
I am just concerned if the song will resonate with the first listen by the masses. Otehrwise, it’s much better than Aea,melodic, powerful. Had some friends (not hardcore ESC fans) who found this song a bit too loud, screams, etc. What can I say.
I HOPE IT WINS! No wonder I want that, let’s wait and see. I love the song and the performance is FANTASTIC!
Wrong again…
Takk :p
It’s not by repeating the same things again and again that it becomes the true.
*truth
worthy winner
but my favourites in this final were Dag Erik & Anne, Miia, KeiiNo
was a super strong and enjoyable final! loved every second of this show
Tiny visual adjustments needed and this is a competitor for the trophy. There is something special here. Switch her fashion adviser. Never make the song in eng revamped.
“Just because the majority agree on something doesn’t mean they are right.”
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”
Eurovision fans have been proven wrong time and time again – by hyping or dismissing certain songs only for the results to prove something else.
This will be another “shock” flop.
Watch this space.
FINALLY the Norwegian language is back, and how well it fits the song’s mood. Very well done with this choice Norway. I think this has a high chance to be top 5 in the final.
Not the sort of thing I would go for or listen to normally. That’s fine though. I can still appreciate the artistic value that is there for this one at least even if it’s outside of what I tend to like.
Within my top three so far, we’ll see if anything changes.
Bravo Norway you have a potential top 5 for the second year in a row here, was the best choice for me, good luck!
Bit disappointed myself as I wanted the Robot to represent Norway but this is still good I guess
I get strong France 2022 and Slovenia 2010 vibes from this and they both TANKED!
Honestly, good for KEiiNO. They should be remembered for iconic Spirit in the Sky and not for Damdiggida which is far weaker than the stuff they usually do. They should focus on their local career now.
I know KEiiNO fans are mad, but this is potential winner of ESC 2024. It was just a matter of year when Norway would come again with something as competitive as Spirit in the Sky. MGP has been fire since 2020.
I agree that this entry from Keiino was the weakest of their three entries. And the botched high note didn’t help things. But Ulveham is not going to make Top 5 as is. I wouldn’t be shocked if they don’t even qualify. The song was a mess. But, there is still time to clean it up. Start with diction.
tiny visual adjustments and this is competitor for the trophy. there is something special. switch her fashion advisor. never make it english revamped.
So happy to see Gåte winning, and I am very proud as a Norwegian! We are sending one of our BIGGEST bands ever in a genre that really represents Norwegian culture. People not from Norway will not understand how big this is for us! I know it is a risk to send a song in Norwegian again, but I rather be daring one year (especially when it is this high quality) than to play it safe once again! It will for sure qualify and then I dont care about the final result in the final!
Why would Norwegian be a risk?
Jurors and viewers can be stupid, and make no effort to understand the lyrics.
Before semifinals I told they will win ESC. Cross fingers for them. No risk! I hope they will go to Malmo and slay!
It will be a shocking flop in May to these Eurovision fans who keep hyping this screaming mess.
FFF detected.
Screenshotted this comment to come back to in May when you’re wrong 🙂
Let’s wait and see. France 2022 result incoming.
Norway came to play very high on the left side of the scoreboard this year!! Mesmerising.
Keiino were great as always, but to me this song really only comes alive at the end… It was the weakest of their 3 MGP songs, so Gåte deserved to take this.
I am over the moon. Finally Norway chooses a song I will root for. Gåte, you will have my vote in May!
Oufff. We Might Be Heading To Oslo Next Year! Great Job Norway!
Our wallets would be so ungrateful tho hahah
No One Is Woting For This Weiling Women . My Ears Bleed
But you’re named after a song that was awful on the ears by a woman who couldn’t sing.
The hypocrisy is strong on this one lol
I love that we’re taking a risk. Keiino wasn’t going to win Eurovision anyway, not with Damdiggida. Sorry. So I don’t really care if people think they would’ve done better. I have no attachment to getting another 6th-7th place. Also, ESC juries and MGP juries are different beasts. Like, half our jury countries were Nordic – but there’s a lot of juries that won’t ever, ever get behind a party song called “Damdiggida.” And like we saw with Alessandra last year, you can do very well with the MGP jury with a song that’s not actually jury-friendly at all, then… Read more »
@felix nice argumentation. I totally agree. Keiino would have done well but not win and Gåte shows norwegian culture. SHOCKING Danish jury gave Gåte 0 points! 0?!!
Norway 11/12
I am happy with the winners from Norway. They were my favorites from the beginning. Better than Spain and Malta
The best option out of a terribly weak selection. I don’t get the hype either and don’t even see this qualifying. Still I’m glad Norway didn’t Pick KEiiNO and especially that robot crap.
The worst part for me was seeing Alexandra just before Keiinos points were announced. She knew they lost just by a tiny bit, and I think they really care a lot about Eurovision and the fans, and didn’t want to disappoint them. Seeing how active they remained since they participated, they seem like one of the few acts that really care about the Eurovision scene and love it so much, even 5 years later. Gate for me seems like they just see it as a one time thing, especially since they just shortened a song they had already for MGP.… Read more »
But it’s not about caring about what happens after Eurovision, Its about delivering the goods FOR Eurovision. And that’s exactly what they did. Whether they have longevity after the contest is unimportant. They just have one goal, and that is to get Norway their best result and keep that upward trajectory going.
Keiino will be back with a much better song than this one. It was the weakest of the three songs they’ve submitted, so it was never going to win at Eurovision. Plus they also have a great career away from the ESC so they’re winning at life.
Sorry I dont agree. If you are gonna do Eurovision you need to do it all. And not quit after May.
And Keiino said they wont be back. Final attempt. And they got robbed by some angel and a screaming woman, of which the first just straight up flopped
As far as I remember Keiino also said they won’t be back in 2021, after they came second.
You thinks have so many pent up anger issues. Just because YOU liked a song doesn’t mean it should be chosen. I personally love Keiino, but even I know that Damdiggida wasn’t their best and would have only probably managed to get them a spot in the top 15. It’s kid music and nothing groundbreaking like their previous two attempts. Ulveham is pretty unique in its delivery. I dont understand your uncultured hatred for it. As for your comments, they come from a place with no factual grounding. You’re speaking of Gåte as though they’re going to vanish and never… Read more »
Can’t wait to see this do as well as tix did in 2021 ??
YES YES YES YES NORWAY IM SO HAPPY
I know some Keiino fans mourn that they would’ve won with 50/50, but if you think of the long-term health of MGP as a competition, I think this was very good PR for the 40/60 split. If Keiino had won the jury, then the show, without winning the televote, Norwegians would’ve been soooo pissed. Many here hate that we introduced a jury to MGP at all. And NRK has been very open to changing the format to respond to people’s complaints. If Keiino had won that way, we probably wouldn’t have had a jury again for another decade. So if… Read more »
I’d agree, if this wasn’t keiinos last mgp. Plus europe like them way more so it wouldn’t have mattered
We don’t. Hope this helps!
But they came second in televote, not 4th or 5th in televote, the gap is not that big.
I really don’t get the hype for this song.
Not the type of song I’d usually listen to, but this is cool! Good choice Norway! This is truly arresting and original. And in Norwegian! First time since 2006 I think?
Can a country adopt Dag Erik & Anne, that song is too beautiful and precious not to be on Eurovision. It’s a gem… Albania maybe lol?
San Marino?
I so wanted Keiino but wish Gate best of luck
