The first night of the event has concluded, featuring all 30 acts gracing the stage with their performances. Subsequently, a combined assessment from the press jury (television jury and an online jury) resulted in a ranking that identified the top five performers of the night:

1.Loredana Bertè – “Pazza”
2.Angelina Mango – “La noia”
3.Annalisa – “Sinceramente”
4.Diodato – “Ti muovi”
5.Mahmood – “Tuta gold”

Amadeus, hosting Sanremo for the fifth and potentially final time, is accompanied each night by a special co-host. On the first night, Marco Mengoni, a two-time Sanremo winner and Italy’s Eurovision representative in 2013 and 2023, joined him.

In addition to witnessing the acts perform, the audience enjoyed special performances from guests selected by the host. Marco Mengoni, the co-host for the night, graced the stage twice. Initially, he performed “Due Vite,” his winning song from Sanremo 2023 and the 4th place Eurovision 2023 entry. Later, he concluded the night with a medley of his greatest hits, featuring “L’essenziale,” his 2013 Sanremo-winning and Eurovision 7th place song.

Night 1 also showcased Lazza performing his Sanremo 2023 song, “Cenere,” on the Suzuki Stage (dedicated to artists recently partaking in Sanremo). Additionally, Tedua took the floating stage (catering to artists popular among the younger audience) to perform one of his songs. Both stages are situated outside the Teatro Ariston.

We remind you that:
Night 1: Tuesday, 6 February:
During the inaugural night, all songs will be presented live, with voting exclusively derived from the press jury (comprising the TV jury and online jury) to determine the Night 1 results. The co-host for the evening will be Marco Mengoni (Italy 2013 and 2023).

Night 2: Wednesday, 7 February:
On Night 2, half of the acts will return to the stage to perform once more. The voting mechanism for this night will involve a combination of 50% radio jury and 50% public voting. The co-host for the second night will be Giorgia.

Night 3: Thursday, 8 February:
Night 3 will feature the remaining songs that did not participate in Night 2. The voting method will mirror that of Wednesday (Night 2). The co-host for this night will be Teresa Mannino.

Night 4: Friday, 9 February:
During the fourth night, each of the 30 artists will showcase a cover of another song. Artists can choose to perform the song individually or collaborate with a renowned Italian or international guest artist. The co-host for the evening will be Lorella Cuccarini.

Night 5: Saturday, 10 February:
The final night, Night 5, will witness the last performance of all 30 songs. Public voting from this night, coupled with results from the preceding nights, will determine the five songs advancing to the Superfinal. The voting breakdown for the Superfinal includes public voting (34%), the press jury (33%), and the radio jury (33%). The eventual winner will have the opportunity to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. The co-host for the grand finale will be Fiorello.

Don’t forget to vote you favorite in our poll!

Didn’t listen to the songs yet but Diodato, Mahmood and Il Volo are some of my most favorite Italian entries and have some of my favorite Eurovision songs, so I’m curious to listen to their songs and I’m sure the newbies will serve quality too. Next to Ukraine and Sweden Italy is probably one of the most consistent Eurovision countries. I’m excited!

Strongest Sanremo so far. Hopefully Annalisa or Irama takes it though.

If listen Clara from Sanremo intro and Filip Balos intro of his song this year for PZE they are exactly the same

That’s weird. I wonder what is the explanation here. A pre-made instrumental sample they both followed? Because I don’t really think one knew the existence of the other song beforehand and copied one another this way.

Balos confirmed he used a sample.

Perhaps a controversial opinion but the more I watch Sanremo, the less and less convinced I am about it, particularly night one. I think it is because the rules of the contest are quite rigid – everyone has to dress-up, there is the orchestra there, there is an expectation as to what your song should be like, I think what this means is that the overall event has an element of inauthenticity to it – ie, artists have to present themselves in a way that they would not normally present themselves – so, the punk band presents a non-punk song,… Read more »

But…but… everything is live! If you compare Sanremo to something like SuperRob, I know which I prefer. The sheer intense method acting of Irama, or the faceless studio recording replica?

We come from different worlds on this – Sanremo is still incredibly manufactured but pretends to be something else. I prefer honesty.

Don’t forget that Sanremo has an “artistic director” every year, who presents their vision of what they want the contest to be. This is supposedly the last year of Amadeus in the job, so maybe next year will be different. You can apply!

I do kinda see what you mean, even if I disagree. Remember Eurovision 1994 when Ireland ditched the orchestra and conductor, and just had the two guys playing accoustically on piano and guitar. Something like that might be nice.

Also, I love the grandeur of the dressing up. I much prefer them dressing differently each performance, moving differently, than every time being a frame for frame repeat of the previous one. Now that is unnatural.

You cannot really believe that San Remo is not honest and compare it to Melodifestivalen.
Supernova, MGP, the Luxemburg final they are all actually copies of Melodifestivalen. The performer tries to have extravagance choreography and graphics and the special effects are going worse and worse every year.
San remo is just a festival where you go to the stage and sing your song and you have to captivate the audience with your aura, your talent and your song not with the special LEDs of the background.

Each to their own I guess. I find the performances on the Sanremo stage to be one-dimensional and not very engaging.

Well said pal. The fact Sanremo still insist on avoiding the LEDWALL on the back is just because of that. Singers must engage in singing. Attention of the audience must be on the singer. Unfortunately Eurovision fans fond their likes on the ledwall contents, the choreography etc. Not always on the quality of the lyrics or the music, or the performance.

Mahmood is only here because of his previous success. I see a lot of people being blinded by that, while “Tuta gold” is such a generic radio song…

Kinda off topic but The running order of tonight’s show (and which 15 acts will be performing tonight) is out. Irama and Annalisa will be performing really late in the show (second to last and third to last respectively).

I get it. They regularly do that in Sanremo and it’s indeed fair (even if yesterday there was no televoting and today there will be people voting).
I am mostly worried about how big the show will be and as a result how late these two will end up performing. We have only half the songs today but maybe way more intervals/guests. Maybe it’s a chance though to also listen to some of the songs I missed last night.

Giorgia will be the Marco of tonight, plus John Travolta will show up for whatever reason.

I understand your point, but I am pretty sure that tonight and tomorrow the televote will start at the beginning of the show. people have already listened to the songs and can vote their favourite at 9:30pm if they want to (of course among the 15 acts of each night), no matter the timing of the exhibition.

forget about the partial rankings, the only thing that matters are the various votes of all the juries together on Saturday evening. This year the uncertainty is high, it will be a real last minute challenge, with big surprises! Saturday night will be a crazy challenge

Despite Irama’s phenomenal 2022 entry, history of being underrated suggested another disappointment. Angelina and Annalisa’s catchy tunes were my clear favourites, while Mahmood, predictably overrated, wasn’t even worth a listen

It was giving a little too close to Lewis Capaldi, He has entered much better songs than this one. Although I still like the song, there are other songs here that are more unique and catchy. Angelina Mango for one, that would win the contest if it’s selected. She has so much charisma and talent, absolutely love her.

Where is Irama?

Ari

As in most other formats, Sanremo is no exception here imo: the biggest flaw it has is the voting. It starts off as bad as possible with “voting exclusively derived from the press jury”. How is a few most likely biased press people more important than the millions who are streaming those songs? If the public decided, there’s no way Irama wouldn’t be top 5.

Also, Norway proved how much of a burden international juries are. The public had to be given 60% just to undo the jury damage and make Gåte barely win. The best entry Norway has sent in ages. The same public that votes for awful songs like AI had more taste than supposedly professional juries pushing Keiino to no end. Time to say goodbye.

I don’t know why Irama gets underrated by the juries every time in Sanremo. He was my winner in 2022 and most possibly this year as well (alongside Annalisa up to now). Both his ballads were heartfelt and great I don’t know what puts juries off here.

The press jury is important because there are a lot of artists with a big fandom and they would win every year with the televote.

Soldi in 2019 won thanks to the press and the other juries

San Remo voting rules work: see the number of hits the festival brings. Also, look at the results of Italy in Eurovision: almost all acts that managed to win San Remo (and get to Eurovision) made it to top 5 (2015, 2018,2019, 2021, 2023) or top 10 (2013, 2017, 2022). So, how is the voting the biggest flaw then?

Amazing. I have lots of favourites from this selection (like always). Hopefully it’s the ladies’ turn to win this year though.

I hate to say it but Mahmood performance is kinda cringey? It’s like he’s trying too hard.
