Supernova 2024 exploded onto our screens on Saturday night. Ten acts competed for the coveted crown, but ultimately Latvia choose Dons to be their representative at Eurovision in May.
He’ll now head to Malmö with the song “Hollow”.

The winner of Supernova 2024 was determined by combined votes from both a jury and the public at home. At the end of the show, the top three were revealed:

A good voice and a solid yet rather unimaginative ballad. I like it yet I expect a bit more.
Could this finally break Latvia’s non-qualification streak?
If this can manage to qualify it will probably finished decently high in the final; it is one of the few jury friendly songs we have so far
There’s an interestingly low lack of ballads or slow moving songs this year. I wonder if there’ll be a massive difference in the televoting and jury results this year? Could the ballads stand out and hence we get a victory from one of them? This will nodoubt help both Latvia and France this year!
I think it’s a good song but I wouldn’t listen to it everyday in my car while I drive to work.

Dons’s voice is amazing. Dons is one of Latvia’s greatest artists. I’m proud of him! ??As a latvian, I very well know how Europe is voting/ is going to vote. A lot of people who know ESC never take Latvia as a serious competitor, because we mainly haven’t got very good performances. So many think that Latvia is not a competition. Yet Alika – Bridges qualified with ease. “Televote friendly” is a myth. Even a power ballad can be televote friendly, not everyone vibes with unfunny troll acts.
But then in the final she TANKED hard. The juries had to save her.

I think this was the obvious choice from Latvia. Not the biggest fan of the song myself, but I really like Dons voice!

Well, this song definitely gives me the vibe of final in a singing contest. But in a SONG contest, not so far. I really like his voice and I think he can sing, but the song itself is pretty unremarkable. I think his voice deserves something better and more interesting than this to showcase it.

Of all the national final artists I’ve encountered for the first time this year, Vestules are probably the act I’m most curious to hear new music from. They’re so young and promising!

Great selection Latvia! Don’s, V?stules and the Cats song were slthe strongest song this year. Don’s has the most potential on the main stage.
Latvia typically plays it gradually so I expect some performance enhancements that lifts Don’s song in the final. Well done, Latvia – you should be very proud of this year’s choice!

Doesn’t happen often, but my number one favorite song for the national final actually wins the national final and go to Eurovision. I think dons had competed in supernova before, and now he’s finally going to Eurovision.
Congratulations Latvia, you chose my favourite song do far this year! If this is choreographed like it is in the video, it will be a contender. As it is at the moment, it is stale and a bit uninteresting. The song is very powerful, and Dons has a great voice, but it needs more emotional context to work at ESC. Bravo on the choice though.

Dons’ song here is better than the one he placed 2nd with years ago, and he has one hell of a voice. But I was mesmerized by “kur”, even if “Hollow” is probably the safer bet of an entry for qualifying.
