It looks like we’re finally one step closer to knowing who will represent Australia in Malmo.
SBS announced today that their 2024 Eurovision entrant will be announced on Wednesday, March 6. Given time zone differences, this means at our friends across Europe will likely find out on March 5. In an email out to all media buyers, SBS promoted sponsorship opportunities across the Eurovision broadcast on SBS in May, while casually dropping the entry announcement date.
In a blink-and-you’ll miss it email, SBS said:
“In 2024 SBS is proud to broadcast the event which this year is taking place in Malmö, Sweden. We also celebrate 50 years since ABBA took to the Eurovision Stage with “Waterloo”, taking home the win for Sweden.
Australia has once again been invited to send a representative to compete in the contest. Stay tuned to hear who will be representing us on Wednesday 6th March.”
A March 6 announcement coincides with the date Australia used to announce their internally selected Eurovision act. While Voyager were announced on February 21 last year via YouTube, Guy Sebastian, Dami Im and Isaiah were announced all in the first week of March.
Who is rumoured to represent Australia at Eurovision in 2024?
After Australia confirmed on December 5 that they will be participating at Eurovision in 2024, the rumour mill has been in overdrive with who might just be representing the isle down under.
The most rumoured artist was none other than Dannii Minogue, who sparked interest as a contender when she tweeted the official Eurovision account on X.

After then teasing a new 3 minute song co-written with Anthony Egizii and David Musumeci, the duo behind other Australian Eurovision entries “Sound of Silence”, “Don’t Come Easy”, “We Got Love” and “Don’t Break Me”, Dannii seemingly confirmed Eurovision was not on the cards, telling radio show Kyle and Jackie O:
“I don’t know that I would have the strength to get through it. I saw Dami do it, Kate did it bending around on this pole. Like guys, I am 52, I am not a J-Lo at the Superbowl. It’s not there for me in my future.”
With Dannii seemingly ruling herself out, some fans are wondering whether another former Australia Decides runner up, much like Voyager was in 2023, will be tapped to represent Australia in Malmo. Casey Donovan, who was runner up at the national final in 2020, would be an unlikely choice given she is headlining the Australian production of & Juliet during May.
The 2019 runners up of Australia Decides, Electric Fields, have also been rumoured as a potential candidate, but have remained decisively quiet on their social media.
Another huge advocate for representing Australia would be the avant-garde Jaguar Jonze, who participated in Australia Decides in both 2020 and 2022. Her new EP, “Victim Impact Statement”, drops this month.

Australia cannot ever quit Eurovision before sending Jaguar Jonze. Been a fan since her 2020 entry, then she blew up in 2022 also having an insane album and still didn’t manage to win the Aus decides sadly, 3rd time is the charm i hope and i’ll see her face on March 6th

BREAKING NEWS! Israel sent 2 songs to the EBU, they asked Israel to check the songs that they are not too “political” for the competition. Eden Golan recorded both songs. One of the songs was written by Eden and the 2 creators of “Unicorn” and the other song was written by the producer who produced “Toy” (Eurovision 2018 winner). Israel is waiting for the EBU’s decision.

Went back and had a look at Electirc Fields and Jaguar Jonze’s performances and I have to say, I don’t get the hype of either of them! Though I would prefer Jaguar because she actually brings the staging!
Someone thinks they’re being clever by saying Europe could know on March 5th but this could only happen if the announcement was made very early on the morning of 6th Australian time which is probably unlikely.
It’s usually best to think before opening your mouth!

Weird to think that she is actually older than the Olsens were at the time of their win, though. They seemed so OLD to me when I was a child.
It’s probably because she mentored acts like Ruth Lorenzo and Dami Im on The C Factor, and she’d feel pressured to at least match their results.

I would love to see Electric Fields in Eurovision. Their 2019 song “2000 and whatever” is still in my playlists and I would appreciate them bringing some Aboriginal Australian culture to the contest. 🙂

Jaguar Jonze would be actually so goodd, loved both of her songs she entered, but she has even better songs. She could definitely turn it out and she CAN perform too.
