Saturday was the big night in Denmark, because Copenhagen was host to Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2024 as the country chose their act for Eurovision.
Eight acts battled it out to snatch the Danish crown and have the honour of defending the red and white colours on the other side of the Öresund Bridge in Malmö.
After two rounds of voting, it was our readers’ favourite Saba who emerged as the winner.

Do you agree with the results of DMGP 2024? Can Denmark finally qualify to the Eurovision grand final again? Let us know in the comments below.
im so glad this won, it was the only song on the national final that had a chance of qualifying!
It gives me Tattoo vibes, the same kind of bland English pop song… But I guess judging by Denmark’s standard this is a good step in the right direction.
That plain black table needs to be replaced with something cooler. Maybe you could build a giant white sand dune for her, add some shimmer and texture to it.
you guys are sleeping on this. I could be biased, but I’m so proud that we will send this song to Malmö. the staging and light was so pretty, but they still need to elevate it a bit more, but if they do that this could be a moment
Average, as average as Denmark has all of used to.
She can’t sing…
yeah that is definitely not true. it was the nerves in the beginning and she had sound problems too, but the nailed it at the end
but she nailed it at the end*
I’m here for the surprising top 5 at ESC. Go SABA!
positively speaking, it’s pleasant and catchy. however, it can’t be denied that denmark seems to be stuck in the 2010-2014 esc era.
this one will suffer with the lack of juries in the semi, specially performing in the 1st half…and the televoting results at DMGP are not a good sign.
on top of that…sweden, finland and iceland are voting in the other semi
another weak NF from Denmark – why are they even trying?
So Saba came 3rd in the televoting of the superfinal but the juries saved her? is it true? This is embarrassing…. the semifinals are 100% televoting…
Song is very mid, sounds like Melodi reject. Her vocals were weak but the pre-recorded vocals saved her.
Well European televoters may have slightly different taste than the Danish televoters who love songs like Basims which probably wouldn’t be appealing to listeners outside Denmark.
this ^ I agree that Basim had a good song, but it will not appeal to europe. It was a very basic danish radio song
bro never trust the danish audience lol. they wanted Basim to win. like wtf. yeah I guess the Basim’s song is good in denmark, but not for the rest of europe
Denmark 7/12
We need sunglasses to watch that
Well the best song won
Aura was robbed for this snooze, Denmark another sure NQ
My first thought as I was listening to this one was “I bet the juries would like it”.
Well…it’s a little on the safe side I’d say? But you know, it’s a radio-friendly song performed by someone with a good voice. Stacked up against all else we’ve seen so far, I just think the juries will give this points. The biggest thing here is that I think Saba sells it.
This is an example of a mediocre song elevated live. Saba is selling it well. They might get the final with this.
The song is good, the best among the 8. But, indeed, her live performance and the staging elevated the song and made it stand out. The same was for Basim but it was not there yet.
It was the best song in a very weak final…But it is certainly not the best song so far chosen, most definitely not!!!
The Wehbe sound is very noticeable, you can tell it’s her without checking it.
It is not a bad song but it also is not to exciting. Saba is the star, her treatment of the song lifts it up.
I wish our neighbours the best in Malmö!
The song’s okay but that’s it, the staging was lacking and it didn’t do much to me. However, this is somehow in my top 10 this year, though.
On the other hand, Ublu should’ve been a superfinalist 🙁
Lots of lights for a song that is very average.
Too generic and not authentic, but I like it. Has potential for epic performance, but will see.
The best choice, but the song is still very beige!
We’re half way through with 18 songs know for Malmö and here is my current top 5:
1) Ukraine
2) Italy
3) Lithuania
4) Norway
5) Denmark
Her first run through she nailed it. In the super final she struggled. there was obviously technical difficulties, you could see with ear piece pulled out. Don’t be alarmed this is going to do very well in May. Her vocals are spot on, things happen during live events.
I’m confident Saba will improve her performance in May. It wasn’t bad though. I can see Denmark qualifying quite easily tbh.
Well im danish and yet another year of medium in a country with so much talent. Its just so sad, even tried contracting the ones who find the contestants, but they think they are quite quailified……
I agree, the level of songs since 2019 has been deteriorating steadily. This year out of the 8 songs just one or two were decent enough (Ok 3, the Top-3 of the final). There is something wrong with the committee that assesses the songs submitted. I agree, there is so much talent in Denmark and I am not sure if no better songs were submitted. This is not only happening in Denmark. It happened and will happen in many countries when the committee for the songs is not properly structured and the criteria are not the appropriate ones. The #1… Read more »
It was the best song but having just watched the performance, there’s still a lot of work to do. Vocals were ok but the staging is too X Factor. It’s gonna be hard for this to stand out to get people to vote for it
And again, Danish televoters just had no idea who to vote for, so televoting just was distributed evenly, 19-16-15. Juries easily overpowered it, just like last year.
That is definitely one of the worst examples of voting systems in the national finals. Doing a superfinal with 3 songs in a selection with 8, not 100% televoting but 50/50 jury/televote and making the votes proportional for both juries and televote. Proportion only works properly for the amount of songs more than 3.
This % voting system and the way it is shown always puzzles me.
Yeah how difficult can it be to just do it like Norway Finland and Sweden.. atleast thats makes sense
Also they should show the votes or points insted.. it works for everyone else why are DR keeping that “we just call the result” and making it down in %..
Okay you take the procentage of the votes and cut it in half
But i wonder how the juries are giving votes..
They could make it way more Viewer friendly
In the superfinal, each jury member gave 3 points to their favourite song, 2 points to their 2nd favourite and 1 point to their least favourite. The point total of each song was then converted into percentage points, with the total number of points awarded by the jury members (120) equalling 50 %.
Best song won. She outshined the others, yet she didn’t feel comfortable enough on stage.
This is one of the best songs chosen so far, and Denmark can do well this year with little improvement on staging and without adding dancers or other unnecessary stuff.
Staging is great and effective. Vocally she was good, without any hiccups (although not amazing) but I saw she was struggling with her ear plugs and the sound. Hope she feels more comfortable on stage because she is and looks confident. Well done Denmark!
UBLU surprised me and was my clear winner.. but Saba is a good choice aswell.. UBLU shouldve been top3 atleast tho.
I didn’t watch DMGP, but watching this performance I get the feeling I didn’t miss much. The song is OK in a formulaic kinda way, she’s an OK singer although she sounds a bit nervous. Staging is just…. boring. Very static and relying on enormous amounts of lights, really nothing interesting to see here sadly. I’m not terribly impressed; this year is shaping up to be pretty strong and I fear Denmark isn’t really catching up with the rest.
In the meantime, do you watch Iceland’s semi 1?
Blankiflúr is out! They didn’t choose her… what are they doing there?
I was busy watching the danish one as i live in Denmark but just listened to the Blankiflúr performance and I think she suffered from needing to sing in Icelandic in Söngvakeppnin. The lyrics were difficult vocally. Alot of entries in Söngvakeppnin actually seem to suffer from having to be in both icelandic and english. Anita had this issue aswell imo, did you know her aunt is Selma (1999) one of the 2 best results iceland has had in Eurovision. As a icelander I wish they would just allow the songs to perform in the language they plan to participate… Read more »
The fact that she scored the worst, the least points, with televote out of all three finalists got me in shock.
Pretty much what I surmised. Janus and Basim cancelling each other out so Saba would win. Classic
Danmark actually chose Basim with 38% against Saba’s 30%.. she actually came last in public voting with Janus getting 32%
But with the jury giving 44% to Saba then it was almost decided before the votes from the public
and that is why we have the juries!!
Saba has got some vocal chops – this was the best option of the night.
None of the competing songs were great, but these lyrics are so apt for the Danish Eurovision situation: „shouldn’t be so hard like breathing underwater“. It really shouldn’t be, DR. „Falling into nothing“. Yep, pretty much.
Qualification chances… slipping through their hand like sand?
I’d say yes. It’s of course too soon to say, the semi could be weak and Sand could slip through. But I don’t think the song itself is giving much reason to vote for it. Not that any of the others did, either.
Sa
nd.Still, it could grow in reputation over time, and become a favourite with fans.
In a Danish MGP which was the epitome of mediocrity, the best song truly won. With Saba, Denmark MAY have a chance to qualify for the Grand Final.
Well said! The best option, with the best chances of qualifying to the final, not sure though. Personally I love the song but when it comes to ESC, we need to wait and see.
Congrats Saba and Denmark.
Good choice.
Welcome back in he Finals, dont mess up stagging please!!
I think Denmark doesnt care about the contest because since 2019, they always sent bland generic songs. It seems to me that they just participate in order to support its Nordic neighbours Norway and Sweden
Hahaha seems like it
Or to have a reason cross the bridge to Malmö
no it’s just that good singers and songwriters don’t want to submit songs to the show which is sad. It used to be a very strong NF.
The broadcaster needs to make radical changes. I know they don’t want to find a winning song after the messy organisation in 2014 but cmon they can still find something decent???Denmark is probably the only Nordic country where big artists don’t want to participate in ESC.
Another song about an unhappy relationship. Johnny at least was different lyric-wise. Oh well, good luck Saba.
I like this one live much more than the studio track. Saba seems to be also very charming which helps to sell the song. Well done Denmark and good luck!
I love this! It’s so clappable and anthemic!
Congratulations to Saba. The performance and staging pleasantly surprised me. Looking forward to seeing Saba at ESC.
Denmark making the right decision over Germany and Finland definitely wasn’t on my predictions for this year lmao
YEESSS!!
Jaa!
Congrats Saba!!
Good choice!!
Saba was my favourite.
But today was very nervous. Happy she won but she must do a revamp.
YEEEESSSS!!!
Thanks .DK. Have a great rest-of-weekend. Hi hiccups this year 🙂
*No hiccups
Okay. It stopped again. Who won?
Saba!
Thanks buddy. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Saba has narrowly won it!
Thank god! Sand was truely the best option! I even have it on Spotify!
TONS of staging potential and I reckon Denmark are qualifying this year! Now Saba just needs to refine her vocals and make the staging more memorable. Maybe she needs a prop? A giant sand hourglass that she sings inside of?
Too on the nose i think. Maybe something like bulgaria did 2021? With the abstract platform they dropped sand onto.
I legit forgot that this NF also existed tonight, oh my God…
I just tuned in to check the results. From the recap Saba seems the best option.
Ouch. DR has some marketing to do for next year, perhaps?
I forget about Denmark, let alone their NF lol
Perhaps Denmark has some marketing to do. 😀
I hope the Danes won’t mess it up again. “Sand” looks and sounds good on a stage. I can see it definitely making the final.
Fingers crossed
I must admit – the quality of Denmark’s NF is amazing. They definitely know how to use light
