Söngvakeppnin 2024 began on Saturday night with semi-final 1. This year’s show has severed its ties as the official selection for Eurovision, but the ultimate winner will get to decide whether they want to represent Iceland in Malmö.
Five acts competed in semi-final 1. After the Icelandic public had their say, it was ANITA and VÆB who earned enough votes to qualify to the grand final.
The hosts for the evening were Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir, Sigurður Þorri Gunnarsson, and Unnsteinn Manuel Stefánsson.
Söngvakeppnin 2024: Semi-final 1
Results
Five artists compete in each semi-finals, with the top two from the Icelandic viewers’ votes advancing to the grand final. The two qualifiers from semi-final 1 were:
- ANITA – “Stingum af”
- VÆB – “Bíómynd”
Running order
All acts must perform in Icelandic during the semi-finals.
- CeaseTone – “Ró”
- Blankiflúr – “Sjá þig”
- ANITA – “Stingum af”
- Sunny – “Fiðrildi”
- VÆB – “Bíómynd”
Grand final
Ultimately, at least four artists will participate in the grand final of Söngvakeppnin 2024, but broadcaster RÚV has the right to give a wildcard to another artist to participate in the final.
In the grand final, the result will be determined after two rounds of voting. In the first round, the Icelandic audience and an international jury will jointly vote, with the top two in the ranking advancing to the second round. In this super-final, only the Icelandic audience has the voting right, and their votes will be combined with those from the first round to determine the winner.

sunny was robbed /hj
That was a black Saturday for all Eurovision fans.. all the entries selected yesterday are so weak and generic that I am worrying about the music level of this year’s contest
You have Blankiflur and, specially, Ceasetone (though the live performance needed a bit more of what “Luktelk” delivered), but you end up with those two.
How Iceland always manages to pick the dullest and most average songs out of the bunch?
Anita would be bottom in its SF, VAEB would place as Malta last year at best.
In the end, it would be Bashar with one of the worst songs in the line-up just because of his roots, but no musical merits whatsoever.
Bashar to win!
The red-green photo is political, the colors have nothing to do with iceland or the song. Politics are not part of Eurovision.
Blankiflúr :(((
In a night of nothing but good news for me, losing CeaseTone to the semifinals is the least hurtful news I could receive. I can’t even pretend to be sad over it after literally every other selection ended in my exact picks (Well, actually, In The Middle and Anti-Princess were literally a 50/50 for me so both choices would’ve been fine to me)
I will miss CeaseTone but I’ll be banking for Bashar next week now
Are we really still downvoting anyone who says anything positive about Bashar’s song here or was it something else I said
I actually really liked Annita, wouldn’t mind this at Eurovision.
Blankiflúr robbed wth. Is there any wildcard qualifiers in songvakeppnin?
Yes, Rûv at the end can choose one NQ song.
If Bashar doesn’t win next week, little impossible because of the political message, the channel will choose him…
Surely blankiflúr will be the wildcard with the amount of support she’s getting
Gabbani called and wanted his gorilla back!
Along with Jedward’s lab clones!
Feel bad for Ceastone. He’s got a good song honestly and deserves the wildcard! Blankiflur is also a worthy contender!
No suprises with that staging why VAEB got through!
Liked Anita but got distracted with the vocal. Clearly layered with a backing singer (or herself pre recorded ) in unison so I couldn’t tell if she’s a good live singer or not.
I am not forgiving any of you for not letting icon Blankiflúr go to the final.
I’m Happy for Anita, but Sad for Blankiflúr?
Anita was the only who looked like a professional singer/performer.
Still, I am looping Blankifur’s song. But Vaeb’s is good, too – at least the stuido cut. Their live singing… OMG… no.
So pleased that Anita has made it through, that song is an absolute banger.
And the boys were loads of fun as well. Iceland has made some good choices here.
Congrats to anita going to the final! And væb i guess. I dont get the appeal of their song, but i dont choose.
I love Sigga, Naetur is such an evergreen. One of the nicest Eurovision artists I ever met.
She was only nice to you out of necessity, not because she loved that face of yours.
Is that the reason you turned into this hateful thing? Nobody was ever nice to you? I can see why. 😉
I hope VÆB have enough popularity to win this thing and then represent Iceland in Malmö guilt free.
What guilt are you referring to?
The numerous Icelandic artists who want the broadcaster to boycott Eurovision because of Israel. I can imagine some will lay a guilt trip on the winner, should he happen to be an Icelander by some miracle.
And they should boycot israel. Is your whole reason for supporting them that they refuse to stand against extermination? That’s gross
My whole reason for supporting them is choosing what I like best, if you don’t mind. It’s a goddamn song competition. Why don’t you start boycotting? I hope you don’t watch a single second of Eurovision. Your morals will be forever cursed.
Im planning to boycot eurovision unless those evil racist murders get kicked out. I hope good people can make the ebu see sense, but unfortunatly they only care about their morocon oil sponsorship.
The preselection shows are their own thing and i can watch them on their own merits. Væb just have none. Musically.
Good for you. Please give yourself a big applause for your impeccable morals.
I hope for your sake you get some morals. And taste. Worst song i heard all night and the stageshow didnt even have the decency to be funny.
I am not the one pretending to boycott Eurovision. National finals already are Eurovision.
And if iceland withdraws was it still secretly really eurovision? The boycot is for the main shows.
with the exception of Sanremo, none of the shows would exist if it weren’t for Eurovision. I’m just worried about your morals here. The main shows won’t be enough to make your point.
International Creditratings for Israel are faltering globally. Why that could be I wonder………..??
I’m not responsible for Israel or its credit ratings. I’d like Iceland to fulfill its commitment to Eurovision by making a choice based on music. Withdrawing probably leads to bad credit ratings in the EBU,
My qualifiers would be sunny and anita, be we’ll see how it goes
So anita is taking one of the qualification slots
She does need to work on blending with the backing track, but it’s a good show
Vaeb is a no from me
Sunny – Fiðrildi for the win
There were ideas for this staging, but idj if ceasetone has the riz to pull all of them off. Sounds good though
Breaking news! The Israeli song was chosen tonight by the majority of votes in the song selection committee! The song was sent to the EBU for final approval. I am so excited! I am so intrigued to know which song was chosen!
It’s titled “loving Jen aside”
I hope its a Lalala Peace song with we are the good guys!
Globally interest-ratings for israel on the financial markets are faltering.
Wonder why?
Maybe they should sing the Hallelulia-lalalalallaaaaa laa song louder!!
