Updated post: Dami Im’s management has confirmed to our friends at Aussievision that Dami Im has not been approached to represent Eurovision this year. Ken Outch, her manager has said:
“I can confirm that Dami has not been approached for Eurovision this year. Dami is focused on writing for her new album and preparing for upcoming Korean book release.”
Last week, SBS revealed that Australia’s entry to Eurovision will be announced on March 6. While the network has been coy on revealing any information on their entrant so far, a leading radio show may have incorrectly leaked the wrong entrant.
The Kyle and Jackie O Show, which is Sydney’s number one breakfast radio show, run a daily pop quiz for their audience, for the chance to win $10,000. On Thursday’s edition of the quiz, host Jackie O asked the following question to a contestant:
“Who is representing Australia at Eurovision this year for the second time?”
Eurovision fans will remember Dami Im placed second for Australia at Eurovision in 2016. While the contestant guessed Dami Im, both Jackie O and Kyle confirmed that was the correct answer. Being a pop quiz, they didn’t elaborate on the point, but this has raised questions as to their sources. You can hear the radio show snippet here.
While the above was purely speculation, Kyle and Jackie O have previously broken big Eurovision news this year, confirming growing speculation that Dannii Minogue was not this year’s entrant. Dami’s team have now shut down these rumours.
Would Dami Im want to come back?
Dami Im returning for Australia in the future is a definite possibility. In 2020, she officially announced her intention to submit an entry to Australia’s national selection Australia Decides for 2021. Montaigne ended up being internally selected for 2021 due to Eurovision’s cancellation in 2020. Dami ended up releasing her potential entry, “Paper Dragon”, in 2021.
In 2022, not long after giving birth to her first son, she again confirmed that she would consider entering in 2023, telling Yahoo Australia:
“I always said that I would come back. I was going to come back in 2021, and life happened (COVID, Eurovision 2021 cancellation) and it kept falling over. So I would love the chance to do it again one last time, and I’m hoping that that can be next year (2023). I really do want to have a shot at it.”

What if it’s a returning Eurovision artist with someone who previously been in the Australian National Finals. For example Kate Miller did a duet with Jaguar Jonze on her last album. Personally I would love if Electric Fields was to be involved although I know that is wishful thinking!

Some people have hard time to read correctly here apparently, it’s written Dami WILL NOT BE Australia’s Eurovision 2024 entrant, it can’t be clearer.
As others said too I think it will be either Electric Fields, Jaguar Jonze who were so close to go to Eurovision, or Montaigne who has still not get the chance to perform on the Eurovision stage. If it’s Montaigne it would be so cool cause she deserves it so much!
And if it’s really Montaigne it means that the question in the Quizz Show was still relevant cause she would represent Australia for the 2nd time too.
Electric fields and Jaguar have not represent Australia, so its not them, and Montaigne will be 3rd time as she was selected twice before so its not her. But yeah like Dami’s management will say ok yeah its Dami when the big reveal is on March 6th.
Well I didn’t count 2020 because it was cancelled so technically it would be the second time for Montaigne.

Dami Im is one of the most talented and professional musicians there has ever been at the ESC, in my opinion. It’s understandably a big deal for everyone involved if she and SBS decide to come back together.
N.B. Normally, I’d be writing to SBS (again) to beg them to send Troye Sivan, but after Lithuania this year picked Silvester Belt (who idolises Troye), I’d be very happy if Dami Im chose this year to come back. I wouldn’t want to see Silvester compete against his idol.
Talent as a performer, or as a songwriter too?
Both. Her songwriting has a very particular feel about it, driven by rhythmical patterns that deliberately over-express the music and leave the lyrics to just provide context. There tend to be lots of refrains and melismatic patterns everywhere in her songwriting; I think it’s very beautiful in its mastery. I will acknowledge that some of the songs are very cerebral and are not always easily accessible to the casual listener, but some people once said the same about the great Barbara Streisand. Stop me now, this is becoming an essay.

Please stay where you are, you reached 2nd position in 2016 and may not reach there again take chiara and some others as an example. Yes covid postponed eurovision in 2020 . Love Dami, but aside from Johnny Logan and Loreen, returnees rarely do very well. Televote results also suggest public appetite for Australia participating has cooled considerably since her 2016 participation. Sadly, I fear she’s on a hiding to nothing.
Televote results only reflect that the quality of Australian entries has been decreasing since 2016… i think Europeans would totally vote for a GOOD Australian entry
They won their semi last year. It was 100% televoters. Producers just place their best entries at the wrong positions. Like last year. Why do you put two winners of semis next to each other in the finale ? They clearly wanted Finland to win. Jokes on them tho. Sweden got everything

Elisabeth Andreassen has been participated in Eurovision 4 times, finishing in Ist as part of Bobbysocks!, 2nd as a solo act, 6th in a duet with Jann Werner – all for Norway; and 8th as a solo act for Sweden.

I’m a big fan of “Sound of Silence” and I think that Dami Im is an amazing performer so I’m excited to see if this is true. I hear all the concerns about returning artists but tbf if she has a good song I’d be happy to see her again in ESC.
Don’t get me wrong, I adore Dami and her music, but surely there are plenty of other artists in Australia who deserve to be discovered.

Dami has a legacy at ESC that won’t have to be tarnished by her returning with an inferior entry. Paper Dragon wasn’t even close to the quality of Sound of Silence. She won’t also have the financial backing of Sony + the resources from SBS this time, so the funds need to come somewhere else…

I appreciate Dami but her song from Eurovision was one of the most overhyped second placers of recent memory, alongside Bulgaria 2017. These entries don’t do anything for me. However, there’s no denying Dami has a great energy and voice. I reckon I’d enjoy her more this time around with a potentially more immediate song. Last year she was rumoured, however, and she wasn’t chosen, but I still enjoyed Voyager! Hope Danny is doing okay btw!
