Hej Sverige! Sweden has decided its entry for Eurovision 2024. Twins Marcus & Martinus will represent the host country in Malmö with the song “Unforgettable”.

Marcus & Martinus are a Norwegian duo who rose to fame after winning Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix Junior in 2012. Since then they’ve established themselves as household names across Norway and Sweden. They took things even higher in March 2024 by winning Melodifestivalen, Sweden’s national selection for Eurovision and its most-watched television programme.

Infused with dark pop elements, their song “Unforgettable” builds through the verses into an electric dance break with not so subtle dance beats.

The twins sing about someone whose love is venomous and dangerous. However, that love is tantalising and unforgettable, making it impossible to pull away.

Sweden at Eurovision 2024: Marcus & Martinus with “Unforgettable”

Sweden chose its Eurovision 2024 entry through its Melodifestivalen national selection. Last year, Loreen won the national selection before going on to win Eurovision in Liverpool.

Marcus & Martinus also competed at Melfest 2023. Performing the song “Air“, they provided Loreen’s fiercest competition and finished second.

This time around, Marcus & Martinus went one better. They won the fifth and final heat in Karlstad to progress to the final in Stockholm. There, they comfortably won both the international jury vote and the public vote to come out on top.

What do the “Unforgettable” lyrics mean?

“Unforgettable” is a tale of a lover who is described as “dangerous” and “venomous”. In the first verse, she is described a predator, who “comes alive at night, when her prey’s asleep”. We find out that she’ll “chew you up” and “spit you out”, with power that “makes your eyes go blind”.

Despite this, Marcus & Martinus find themselves “in too deep” and intoxicated. As we move into the chorus, Marcus & Martinus say that “she is unforgettable” but reveal that “it feels so good, it hurts”.

Throughout the second verse and the outro, she is referred to as “venomous”. Even though they can detect the toxicity, Marcus & Martinus can’t get enough, repeatedly describing her as “unforgettable”.

Although she isn’t physically present on the stage, the guys manage to channel her overwhelming power. At times the stage goes fuzzy and out of focus — suggesting they’re hypnotised or beyond delirious — and they struggle to move. At times the choreography is jagged (perhaps as they break down under her sheer force) and at other times they’re moving in slow motion, like they’ve lost control of their own bodies. She’s so intoxicating the guys seem to lose themselves on stage.

“Unforgettable” lyrics — Marcus & Martinus (Sweden Eurovision 2024)

Songwriters (music and lyrics): Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt, Joy Deb, Linnea Deb, Marcus Gunnarsen, Martinus Gunnarsen

Verse 1
She comes alive at night
When her prey’s asleep
Make your eyes go blind
And now you’re in too deep

Bridge
She gon’ chew you up
And leave you empty, hollow
Then she’ll spit you out
Anyway, I follow
She gon’ hurt you bad
But it feels so good
I don’t care
No, I don’t care

Chorus
You better know she’s dangerous
She is unforgettable (unforgettable)
And it feels so good, it hurts
She is unforgettable

Post-Chorus
Whoa-oh-oh-oh
She’s unforgettable
She’s unforgettable
She’s unforgettable

Verse 2
Her love is venomous
It’s getting serious (it’s getting serious)

Bridge
She gon’ chew you up
And leave you empty, hollow
Then she’ll spit you out
Anyway, I follow
She gon’ hurt you bad
But it feels so good
I don’t care
No, I don’t care

Chorus
You better know she’s dangerous
She is unforgettable (unforgettable)
And it feels so good, it hurts
She is unforgettable

Post-Chorus
Whoa-oh-oh-oh
She’s unforgettable
She’s unforgettable
She’s unforgettable

Outro
Oh
Her love is dangerous
And I know it, it’s venomous
‘Cause I feel it inside of me
She’s unforgettable

Her love is dangerous
And I know it, it’s venomous
‘Cause I feel it inside of me
She’s unforgettable

Why is everyone slanting and criticising this song?. This is a banger. Very catchy. The Swedes know how to captivate the viewers attention.

Kind of weird that they both sing a song about the same woman and are horny for her. Who will get her? If they weren‘t brothers I‘d think it would end in a threesome

I feel like these incredible and poetic lyrics will win the Nobel price for literature. Well, the Nobel price is hosted in Sweden. SVT is the TV producing the Nobel Price awarding show, I guess. They can assign a controllable Executive Supervisor. A friendly Head of Contest. Some friendly juries. A remissive Reference Group. And that’s it. Nobel price for Literature for 2024 is …. tadaaaa (but not tadaaaa too much because we are not too stupid) is assigned to Marcus&Martinus. Let’s hope the fact Sweden’s admission into Nato will give them the feeling to be more protected and safe… Read more »

Nobel Prize for Literature laureate Bob Dylan recently wrote an essay about a Eurovision song. Nel blu di pinto di blu.

Sorry… I’ll take any chance to share this fact.

Oh right, I knew that. Bob just calls it Volare, anyway. It’s in his 2022 book, The Philosophy of Modern Song, where he writes all about his fifty favourite songs and why they are so good.

Thats a good old Eurovision song integrated in the souls of so many Europeans. You can start this singing on many streets on the continent and others will step in in singing.

A wonderfull gem and a diamond.
They are hardly made anymore like that.

And it didn’t win. Incredible. Don’t remember who won that year. But, as always, even in the past, quality rarely wins in Eurovision. And it’s getting worse.

I am a generation X. But still I don’t understand how the quality of some songs and singers nowadays is so low and there is people praising it. Some trash songs really are depressing in terms of quality. Then people come here it’a song, not a singer or voice contest. That means, for then, whatever joke song or singer can actually win. That’s in line with the facts happening in our days. Dictators are praised and Trump may win American elections. It’s crazy world leading us to disaster.

@Vincenzo; Thank you for your words. Im with you on this. Quality in general has become low the last 2 decades. Not only at ESC. Eurovision has changed also with the world. I skipped those years with only televoting with neighbours giving to eachother the best votes, Horrendous years. These were those years with clown-acts of meager quality. Its a great joy seeing more alternative artists and sounds making their way on the platform. If its good and well done I like or love it. Im a old Boomer and think I can look beyond all the cheap already used… Read more »

Performance? This Benjamin Ingrosso lookalike, updated to Version 2.0? Probably Sweden thinks to threaten us like in the Starwars film “The Attack of Clones”. First Loreen 1.0 and Loreen 2.0. Then Benjamin Ingrosso 1.0 and now tge doubled twin version of it, 2.0. And they had to search for it in Norway.

If they are unable to win it an eight time with some other generic singers there will be Loreen 3.0 the revenant. SVT will take out Loreen from hibernation and reheat her at the microwave.

I actually see these lyrics as a metaphor for anxiety and the feeling of overcoming a panic attack. Of course, I’m sure that the lyricists probably weren’t going for this but I think this interpretation fits the song well with its hypnotic beat so the lyrics aid my overall enjoyment of the song.

Whether you like it or not this is a catchy song. This fandom is small in comparison to the millions who will be watching mostly for the first time on Eurovision week. This will do well with the incredible technology associated with the staging. In other words i like it.

Compared to these silly lyrics of Sweden the Italian ones deserve the nobel price for literature. Sincerely. If you don’t understand what’s behind the Italian lyrics, first, translate them well by some mothertongue italian (not with Google translation) and then try to apply for some understanding on the underline meaning. Not this silly/boring lovesong with control from Sweden. It’s really moving the effort from Wiwibloggs to serve Sweden thrieving to give depth to this song. I am aware Sweden’s Eurovision power gives chills to the spine of many who are easy to be sold to the most powerful in order… Read more »

Because they have no local musical production or want to win in the easiest way by using producers who are already successful in the market.

The AI’s generatee lyrics from that English lady in Una Voce Per San Marino had best lyrics than this song. But that’s typically swedish. Serving crap on a golden tray makes you think you are at a King’s court. So you vote for it. When Sweden will bring something else than a meaningless pop song, possibly with a good singer with skill and charisma (something on the level of Cornelia Jacobs) I will get more consideration for them.
