They’re the newly crowned favourite to win the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. And Switzerland’s Nemo says they are over-the-moon with Fredrik Benke Rydman, the Swedish choreographer and dancer who is overseeing the Swiss stage show.

The “The Code” hitmaker was cagey when our Cinan asked him to tease the mood and direction of their stage show. But Nemo did express their joy at working with Benke, who has been behind iconic stage shows for songs like Måns Zelmerlöw’s “Heroes” and Käärijä’s “Cha Cha Cha.” Benke has also served as creative director for Finland’s Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu in recent years.

So, how did rehearsals go with Benke in Stockholm recently?

“I really can’t say anything, not even about the mood or my team is going to get very mood-y,” Nemo told us at the Madrid Pre Party ES. “I can’t say anything right now. But I can say I’m in the process of it and it’s so much fun and I feel like it’s gonna be so good. I’m so happy with it.”

Nemo also loved filming their official music video, which unfolds on a series of train carriages. The Swiss may be packing those francs, but even they were dreaming of a bit more coin.

“At first they wanted [to film for] two days, but we didn’t have the budget,” Nemo said. “We had to do everything in one day. ‘I think it’s gonna take 12 hours,’ we thought. I’m not kidding: some people had to be there for 26 hours. People were giving everything for this music video. So many people worked their asses off for this. It’s the best music video I’ve ever been a part of.”

What do you want to see from Nemo on stage in Malmö? Do you think Benke will bring out the best in young Nemo? Let us know in the comments box below.

This year is quite open I guess. The actual top 4 with switzerland italy Croatia and Ukraine looks quite obvious …but any of those 4 could win..my personal favourite would be Switzerand, but Croatia could take it with an explosive staging.

Loved the song and it was my favourite from the start. I’m a 40 y.o. mama. who’s waaay too busy to mind what other people’s identity should or should not be. Artist can sing. Song is orgininal. Message is perfect and cinématographic. Lots of material for an interesting staging. Point… I have nooo worries : haters are loud but they’re still a few. Normal People Who mind their own business and listen to music are still the large majority..

Its not only his recent live perfomance that placed him higher in the betting odds, its also the staging planning that producers definetely know now and those betting companies always seem to also know before us… the audience…. Either way, a beautiful song and a talented perfomer. Why not first place?

A very good singer, but I forget the song, once I heard it, and I really try to remind it. Maybe the mix of genres confuses me. I think the jury’s will love the vocal quality’s, but will they love the composition of the song? I’m struggling a bit.

Okay interesting, maybe I should give it another try … but for now I’m afraid for me the vocals are spot on, but the song isn’t memorable enough.

I’ll also say, the comments section here regarding Nemo’s identity is disgusting.

The vast majority of the commentators here are part of the LGBT community themselves. So I’m astounded by the abuse directed at Nemo here. THIS WAS US a few years ago.

Whatever Nemo identifies as is literally none of our business. Why are people taking it as a personal attack because they choose to identify as what they want to identify as? Literally has no effect on your life one way or the other.

Totally agree Darren. Wise words well said. If you don’t like the song don’t vote for it. Nemo’s identity harms no one.

id also like to say that I am sickened by many of the comments on this site about the Israeli entry.

Focus on the songs and the performances and leave your prejudices outside of Wiwibloggs.

to be honest you can’t compare the difficulties people have with the Israeli entry, with the difficulties people have with NEMO’s gender.

Exactly, it’s non of their business and therefore people can call him whatever they want. The entiltement to change grammar and biology all together, because someone feels a certain way. On one hand claiming gender roles are not important and a social construct but on the other wanting to be a girl a thinking wearing a skirt makes him that and making everything in his identity about that. No one cares, you’re not that important, just like me, you and everyone else. All these brainwashed bots coming at people for misgendering him bullying them to apologize. It’s not offensive. According to the swiss HOD, Zurich, Bern, Geneva and Basel are been thought about. I see Basel or Geneva in the lead as the Hallenstadion in Zurich is booked years in advance and Bern.. well, the only suitable venue would be the Postfinance Arena, but ice hockey is played there and it’s a huge thing in Bern. Nemos hometown of Biel/Bienne would be great. As the biggest bilingual City in Switzerland it would carry the idea of uniting cultures. Also it’s only one hour away by train from all 3 major swiss airports. But I don’t know if the Tissot… Read more »

Another wanna-be activist with the pin that is calling Israel to sit and wait for the next m@ssacre.
His song is great, he even sings it well live, but it’s disappointing really to see it.
In general, all those people trying to make it political.
We still got over 100 hostages in there, being t0rtured, r@ped, underfed, some are already dead, and those singers who live in peace want us to stop.
Put the pressure on those who attacked and kidnapped!
Bring them home now.

Ceasefire just like that is too general. What are the terms? What happens after that? Those are issues people don’t talk about. Will they free the hostages? No idea What will they do (Hmas) after the war if they still exist? Help the Palestinians and go for peace, or rearm and plan the next war? When people are talking about a ceasefire right now, just like that, it means absolutely nothing, at least nothing positive. If you want a true ceasefire, so that this war will be the last, tell them first of all to release the hostages and to… Read more »

Nemo’s clothing style is questionable but the live performance on Swiss tv demands respect nevertheless. It is clear now Nemo can handle their song so I understand the momentum, especially with others already struggling. The strongest Swiss act since… ? … well I guess Celine Dion.

It depends what you mean by “strong” and by “Swiss.” Celine, the strongest vocalist by miles, is clearly Canadian. 🙂
I loved the strength of Vanilla Ninja (Switzerland 2005), but they are actually Estonian. (Yes, really.)
I met Zibbz (Switzerland 2018) in person, who, as I recall, said they wrote their songs while they were in the United States.
Gjon’s Tears (2021) is probably the strongest candidate for strong and Swiss of recent years. (I’ll let someone else say Luca Hänni…)

Can’t wait to discover what Switzerland has prepared to bring Nemo’s song to life on the Malmö stage. They can go for many opposite directions for the final rendering. I expect the live performance to reflect as effectively and brilliantly all facets of the song like they managed to do with the music video, which indeed sparkles by its creativity.
