The Wiwi Jury — our in-house team of music unprofessionals — is reviewing and rating the 37 competing songs in Eurovision 2024. Next we review Lithuania, who have chosen Silvester Belt with “Luktelk”.

Were we bopping along? Read on to find out!

Silvester Belt – “Luktelk” (Lithuania Eurovision 2024)

Review: Silvester Belt – “Lithuania”

Tomas: It’s a huge pleasure to have a bop like “Luktelk” represent my home country. I never thought we would have such a radio friendly song at Eurovision. Being in Lithuanian adds so much; I’m very biased, but the Lithuanian language is extremely beautiful, as previously shown by “Sentimentai”. Silvester has everything he needs to achieve Lithuania’s highest ever result in the contest. It’s dark and mysterious, plus has the potential to become a radio hit even abroad. Silvester has proven with every performance that he’s getting more comfortable in front of huge crowds. I think Lithuanians are set for an amazing night on May 11! LIETUVA!!!

Score: 10

Antranig: Lithuania is my clear favourite at Eurovision this year. This song is a perfect marriage of modern sound and the Lithuanian language. Building nicely through the verses, the song explodes into life in the chorus. The heavy bass sounds are completely infectious and easily the best beat of the contest this year. Silvester has great stage presence with a distinct musical identity and I’m looking forward to seeing how this is tuned for the Eurovision stage. Luktelk luktelk!

Score: 9.5

Scarlett: This is a song I can hear playing in dark, smoky nightclubs long after Eurovision, and that’s a good thing. The pulsating bass throughout the moody production is captivating, and while Silvester Belt’s vocals are not showy, they suit the song and convey the sense of longing described in the lyrics. For three minutes, I can lose myself in “Luktelk” and dance away.

Score: 7.5

Youyou: Perfect song. To tell you the truth, I really enjoy the two techno-like drums in the chorus, which definitely increase the tempo of the whole song. Silvester’s voice may be a bit soft, but surprisingly his voice can blend perfectly with the backing vocals and create a wonderful chemistry. This song should be a hit not only with the viewers, but also with the judges.

Score: 9

LITHUANIA – We are witnessing a Lithuanian renaissance at Eurovision in the 2020s, and I am here for it! Luktelk is everything some other club entries wish they were – slick, interesting, and captures you with its atmosphere on the first take. The hook is very strong and easy to hum along with. It’s delivered in a relatively monotone way, but that’s the intent. Not only that it complements the lyrics, which depict one’s struggle with the passage of time, but it also feels appropriate for this kind of a chill bop.   It’s a danceable song, but it also… Read more »

A very much beloved entry from Lithuania this year, and it’s a solid effort at that. To me though, I end up forgetting about this entry more often than I remember it. It’s one of those “it comes by when it does but goes away when it does” songs. I don’t actively search this one up, nor do I skip it if it ever happens to go by.

It’s a 6.5/10 for me. I don’t find this one particularly memorable, but perhaps strengthened staging can help it out once the time comes

Not one of my favourites, but not half bad. I’d probably place it somewhere around 15-20 of the year. I just don’t find much replay value in it.

So I decided to look up and rank the previous wiwi jury scores given out to Lithuania since 2016 (because that was as far as I could find previous articles, plus it coincidentally happens to be the year. I first got into Eurovision.).

  1. 2024: 8.17
  2. 2021: 7.89
  3. 2020: 7.85
  4. 2016: 6.7
  5. 2022: 6.56
  6. 2023: 6.53
  7. 2018: 5.83
  8. 2019: 4.83
  9. 2017: 3.31

as you can see, it does affirm that both the roop’s songs and luktelk are Lithuania’s highest ranked songs and it shows that Lithuania has truly improved in the 2020s.

If only Lithuania would’ve send Ruta Mur last year… Lithuania is my clear fav this year. I was hypnotized right at first listen, even though I didn’t understand a single word. Everything looks very polished, mysterious and organic. I just can hope Silvester brings Lithuania its best result ever. 8,75/10 1. Lithuania (8,75/10) 2. Czechia (8.25/10) 3. Ireland (8/10) 4. Spain (7.75/10) 5. Norway (7.5/10) 6. Ukraine (7.5/10) 7. Belgium (7.25/10) 8. San Marino (7.25/10) 9. Sweden (7.25/10) 10. Poland (7/10) 11. United Kingdom (7/10) 12. France (6.75/10) 13. if you want Lithuania to do really well, then vote like hell for it, whether your country is in the same semifinal as Lithuania or if lithuania makes it to the final.

I can vote for him though I think he is a for sure qualifier. I know that can go wrong but I would rather support countries perhaps more people in need of my “help” in semi.

This song and its dance choreography, when put together, are quite iconic. The music of “Luktelk” moodily stomps around in E minor, the key of both longing and restlessness; this choice of key is absolutely perfect for the song’s lyrics, and the song rightly refuses to change key throughout. Then there is Silvester himself. In a year where we have perhaps 7 or 8 (I lost count) solo artists representing LGBT diversity at ESC, Silvester still manages to stand out as being a special musician apart from that. His performances so far have been artistic and spot on for conveying… Read more »

12th place – Lithuania This song is very cool! I have to admit the first time I listened to it, I was surprised that that song was so overhyped, but with a few more listens I now catch myself singing it in my head quite often. It’s memorable and I don’t think it’s overhyped as many say anymore. I also like the staging very much and his makeup, the outfit and the dancers, everything is amazing and I’m sure it will look even better in Malmö! I just wish Silvester was a bit more loosen up and moved a bit… Read more »

15TH PLACE: LITHUANIA: I always found this entry strangely intriguing. The whole song creates a mysterious atmosphere: the dark-pop verses followed by the rhythmic part and the chorus alongside the Lithuanian language. I may like the verses more than the pre-chorus/chorus but the song as a whole certainly doesn’t leave me indifferent. My only objections are that the instrumentation feels a bit empty at some parts and that a more alternative staging would perhaps fit the mood of the song better. Nevertheless it’s a song that can under certain conditions be appreciated by both the mainstream and the alternative audience.

P. S. Still though I find the Wiwi jury verdict here overrated. Whereas it’s a good song, it’s not the best that has been reviewed up to now.

Wow! I’m impressed this got such a good score, I was afraid it would get overlooked! Personally this is the song I want to see win the most (or Portugal but ik in my heart that’s not happening), I just thing everything falls into place that juries and televoters can see the value in this: consistently great vocals, varied but coherent instrumental, visual contrast and an overall polished performance, while still having that authentic feel that people value. The way the contrast of the different sections comes together with the camera work, it leaves my hypnotised (in a good way).… Read more »

For me this such a great track from the first time I heard it. I have never disliked it.
The beat, the lithuanian language and ofc the wonderfull stagepresence and vocals of Silvester. He delivered on slayed on the pre-parties.

Well deserved topscore in the review.
Congrats.

Fandom song. Over over over hyped among fandom. It’s like that every year, this year the Fandom song was either lith or Belgium, ended up being lith.
A good example of how something hyped gets too far

Idk, I think 8-12 but actually I don’t know. I think it’s gonna get tele Vokes from fandom only, and quite a bit jury cause of the hype here. Maybe 6-7 if they get a lot of support.

6. Lithuania – Silvester Belt – Luktelk – 9/10 – a dance-pop entry with a futuristic vibe, the track has a mystique given to it by the Lithuanian language, the lyrical ambiguity and Silvester’s presentation and delivery. There is something almost hynoptic about the central “Luktelk” refrain coupled with the thumping beat, building into an explosive last quarter. There is light and shade in the electronic production making for a captivating and exhilarating watch and listen.

This is everything Eurovision should be in the 2020s. Fantastic slick modern production but not plastic, clear identity, own language, great hook, super infectious beat and a charismatic singer who conveys the emotion of the song really well.
Once again, Lithuania didn’t just understand the assignment, they basically wrote it.
Don’t understand why this is going under the radar – I expect and really hope that once the full force is visible during rehearsals it’ll fly.
Congrats Lithuania!!
