Kaleen – “We Will Rave” (Austria Eurovision 2024)
Review: Kaleen – “We Will Rave”
Jonathan: Minus one point for being a few decades late. But otherwise, this is glorious! Enticing the listener with a soft opening, then building in the electronic beats towards a kick-ass chorus, “We Will Rave” instantly grabs you and proceeds to send you full throttle on the dancing journey of a lifetime. This is set to raise the roof off the Malmö arena and get the party started in every household across Europe, Australia, and the world. I’ve never been to a rave before, but you can consider me a convert if this is what they’re playing.
Score: 9
Lucy: Bringing the rave to Eurovision 2024 is Austria’s Kaleen. To many this would be a typically dance-y Eurovision number, however it harks back to 90’s rave so well it can’t be ignored. It truly gives us some highlights of Gatecrasher, Creamfields and God’s Kitchen in the space of three minutes. Kaleen is an incredible performer, and has some of the best choreo skills in the contest this year. Something about this doesn’t quite strike my soul to set it on fire, but it’s still some bloody good fun.
Score: 7
Scarlett: How many songs about leaving your broken heart on the dancefloor are out there? “We Will Rave” is yet another take on the “I’m gonna dance my pain away” theme often found in dance music. The trance-inspired instrumentals bring a dose of nostalgia that may or may not be welcome depending on the listener, while the drum and bass rhythms towards the end are a highlight – though the song never quite hits a climax. “We Will Rave” is a neat little pop song that lacks the grittiness of a full-on rave. Then again, it doesn’t claim to be one.
Score: 5
William: Raves are about music, dance and feeling the rhythm. But they’re also about freedom and letting yourself go. And when Kaleen performs “We Will Rave” that’s exactly what I want to do — lose myself to the music! Sick choreography, devil-may-care freedom, sensuality oozing from hips, hair whips that would leave Beyoncé blushing — Kaleen is giving the gays everything they want. Some have said this sounds “dated.” Well the ’90s are having a resurgence so that’s probably a good thing. Easily my favourite dance song of the year!
Score: 9

Tbh I’ve never been able to comprehend the hype around this entry. It’s the typical song those fans only interested in divas and bops would like, like Cyprus or Luxembourg. I mean, the song itself is uplifting but it’s not a winner by any means. At least it is different from other female uptempo songs, that’s what makes it more interesting and entertaining. 7/10 1. Lithuania (8,75/10) 2. Czechia (8.25/10) 3. Ireland (8/10) 4. Spain (7.75/10) 5. Norway (7.5/10) 6. Ukraine (7.5/10) 7. Belgium (7.25/10) 8. San Marino (7.25/10) 9. Sweden (7.25/10) 10. I’m not sure whether “sick chereo” with 90% of the song covered by loud backing vocals can be enough for this years top 10.
Also I don’t see “the gays” mass-voting for this when Spain literally holds them by their buttocks already (and they’re not likely to let them go).
For a song literally titled “We Will Rave”, what part in it contains anything related to raving besides her mentioning it? As a standalone song it sounds pretty good and anthemic on paper, but the weird correlation to something it says it is but is not, draws away some of that. Kaleen’s also shown that she is not quite capable of performing her song adequately, so whether this one really ends up doing well or not, it’s an uphill battle for now, given the strength of the second semifinal. It’s a 6.5/10 for me. I like the song enough as… Read more »
Kaleen said in an interview on a German channel, that she didn’t really know before, what a rave is. Well, the song doesn’t know it either. Everything about this is so bland and ridiculous, that it even doesn’t work as a parody.
“Giving the gays everything they want”
WTF? That’s not the compliment you think it is.
I dont want it!!
We have raved in all those epic clubs and dirty warehouses.
Untill there was no tomorrow, but with the sun rising in those early mornings getting back home.
This is like selling margarine as real butter.
When I saw there were 100+ comments I thought maybe something bad had happened. To my surprise, most of the comments are actually about the Austrian entry! I didn’t think there was much here to discuss, but by all means, do so. As for my review… When I was finishing primary school, I had a box of cassette tapes. They usually consisted of recordings taken directly from radio stations. One of the tapes started with a song by UK dance group Baby D, called “Let Me Be Your Fantasy.” How that Baby D song made me feel as a child… Read more »
11th place – Austria (personal ranking) I have so much to say about this song. First of all, the moment I first heard the song, I immediately thought about Romania’s singer Andreea Banica. I used to listen to Andreea a lot as a child and her type of music sounded exactly the same, with the difference that those kind of songs came out like 10-15 years ago, whilst Kaleen’s in 2024. I feel like Kaleen’s song is a copy-paste one and when everyone began overrating this on the internet, I became angry. Like come on, it isn’t something we’ve never… Read more »
Out of all the songs trying to capture the magic of 90’s commercial music, this one does the best job. And no, it has nothing to do with any gay s***. How many of you were kids back then?
Completely iresistible. My #3 favourite this year.
I fear she will sing false. weak vocals can bring us back to Belgium 2004 and Xandee with “One Life” at the bottom of the scoreboard.
This song having a better score than Norway is an insult..
Not if you prefer this song it isn’t.
Wiwi jury scores are somewhat funny in some songs they like every year. Those songs usually flop, and that’s ok, personal taste and all.
But this year it is completely ridiculous for some songs to the extent I wonder do they really listened to those songs they are rating.
This is anthem worthy. Loved this from first listen, this will get the party started! The opening is a tad familiar, but who cares the song is a bop!!
Score 10/10
It will go down well with the public. The rhythm undertone that incorporates rhythm is a dancer will trigger a memory within people of a certain age. Good dance song.
Maybe Germany are giving the straights everything they want?
Catchy song, but I fear this one might not qualify at all….it is Austria after all. Hope i am wrong and that it will look and sound amazing and go straight to the final .
Could be this year’s Horehronie or Kate Ryan (both of which were better than this)
AUSTRIA – This year, Austria has decided to transport us to the 90s Eurodance era sprinkled with the elements of a rave party. This is not always my go-to style, but this song is pretty effective. The chorus is very easy to sing along to. The beat can be seen as somewhat soft when it comes to a rave song, but it helps in memorizing the melody. The production feels a bit messy at parts, but it keeps you hooked. Kaleen sells this on stage with her confident attitude and flattering attire. But when it comes to the vocals, hers… Read more »
I wasn’t even a fan of Fuego or Slomo at all when they first came out. But both were performance perfection, so much that I became a fan of both songs afterwards. I don’t see this happening here. All of Kaleen’s performances point towards the opposite. When a broadcaster advertises her as dance professional, I’m of course gonna compare her to the best which is Chanel. They are universes apart. Chanel performed an impressive choreo and sang in tune at the same time. Kaleen does neither, not even at once.
Eleni might not have the very best voice either but it’s still way more recognisable than Kaleen’s and she sang well all the way through. I was very impressed.
Wiwis have exclusive access to Austria’s team and were sent to Vienna to be in the farewell party so i am not surprised this song received high scores from the team. I want to see Austria doing great this year but i don’t see this doing as good as expected. The backing vocals (prerecorded) will do wonders for Kaleen whose voice doesn’t fit songs like this (it’s like asking Britney Spears sing techno live) but the choreo should be on fire and i trust that Marvin will do a great job with the lights and the staging. I think the… Read more »
This song has scored high in all fan polls not just here
10/10 amazing song. Enegertic, with chill relaxed vocals. I love it.

there are jury baits and televote baits, but this one is a gae bait lol
Why are your stereotyping “the gays”? This song barely does anything for me. Why would we all want something so hollow, so forgettable and so unimaginative?
Face it, bar a select few like you and me, most gays are this predictable.
Oh hello superior gay!
As soon as I saw it, I knew this comment would bring Andrew out.
You must understand that Andrew always felt ignored by better looking, better educated gays. So now he goes around criticising anyone who dares to say there’s better quality things to spend life on than the cheapest of drag and the tinniest of pop songs. It’s among those cheap, tinny things that he feels at home.
Another superior gay. Hello!
I listened to the official karaoke version last week and it sounded like the game “spot the difference”. I understand we’re in a song contest and it’s not about vocals only instead for a whole package, but come on, how is it supposed to be a fair competition when the instrumental version is almost THE SAME as the audio one and will be used as a backing on stage ?
That being said, “We will rave” is still very good and tremendously addictive. Good luck to Kaleen and Austria.
Hahahaha classic fandom wiwi.
No vocals, and the moment of the song is either a dancebreak or the the base rhytm, fandom = wow top of the line…
Someone said, as a gay man it gives me nothing. Well as a straight man, this don’t work for me neither. At Eurovision a song has to work in either stage or vocals, when it fails ok both, you don’t too grade it, how is that not base thinking.
I don´t .like it at all – Austria 2/12
Listen to the karaoke version. It is practically a full vocal track. Result = Kaleens live vocal is almost redundant. (Surprise)
That’s the reason why this might even be the saddest entry of the year, imo. This backing vocal playback rule is terrible for Eurovision.
I fully agree. That rule ruins the competition
I also obtained Gate’s karaoke version as I wanted to play along with the guitar and I was sad to see that the guitar was all complete playback and they weren’t actually playing their instruments! I was very saddened that they weren’t playing live!
Sadly, there’s a rule prohibiting instruments live playing.
All instruments on ALL entries have been playback since 1999 – this is a common known rule! This doesnt mean that the band members don’t play their own instruments…they always do outside of Eurovision!
Imagine an orchestra having to belt this out!
Looks like a couple folks missed the joke 😛
I feel the song is bland, her singing is bad and her movement is stiff. As a gay, she gives me nothing.
Me neither
Stiff?
Stiffy
When the rehearsals schedule will be out?
“Giving the gays everything they want”
A rural property in France or England and an unlimited budget for décor? Seriously, I really hate this untrue idea that young gay men are only into tackiness. I’m 24 and outside of ESC I mostly listen to soundtracks and Debussy and the rainbow flag makes me retch in horror. That being said *for what it is* I do quite like this song.
I agree Debussy is the main man !
And im straight
Thanks WIlliam for clapping back at those who tiresomely bleat “dated” at every opportunity.
I would not be surprised if this does not qualify
Don’t underestimate drunk gays
Hahaha brilliant
Hahahaha
Or heterosexual men who will be all over this (and Georgia)
personally i don’t understand the hype, it’s a nq for me
Another piece of Swedish factory music which lacks that extra spark. 5/10
Bronze star.
Do elaborate, I really wanna know.
Elaboration is not really my strong point on things like this, there is often no tangible reason for how I feel. I enjoy it somewhat. I am not bored. I recognize its flaws, but can forgive them.
Too many flaws for me. I don’t like the trashy dance parts at all, they are way too long and repetitive, but the vocal parts with the bridges and hooks are smartly crafted, I think I would enjoy those too if they were sung by a good vocalist. Maria Sur might have made the song shine.
Or Maria Pia
LOL exactly
I find trouble elaborating on certain things too, unless it happens to be something I have strong feelings towards.
And using the term ‘the gays’ is horrible. We so clearly are not all the same.
Not every gay is in “the gays”, and that’s fine. Like every democrat is not in the “Democrat” party. I’m sure there are many U.K. conservatives repulsed by the “Conservative” party. Etc.
Nobody is born with a political party.
We are all born as a human beings, this is true.
So true. I’m glad Ukrainian English can provide such a good education for us.
Haha! Love you Jonas
“Ugh”. An outdated store bought Swedish factory song, a singer with a very thin voice who still struggles every time she sings it even though she doesn’t move simultaneously and the backing track does all the work. What’s more, they praised her as this brilliant dancer and choreographer yet all she does is jump around a little. Chanel was impressive. This is a car crash on every level. It will likely flop and deservedly so.
Also: her relatives wrote better songs than this in their field. They had actual talent.
i’m straight, but i like this song, dated songs when easy listening are my cup of tea yes
but i also like more current music, am a enormous BTS fan and a fan of Lauv
About as straight as cooked spaghetti
7.70? For this outdated “demo” song. Cmon, are you serious?
Because throwing random scores around really screams credibility. Haha
Yay, it’s my last place this year! I say this with all the love in my heart for my Austrian neighbors, I respectfully hate it. Also, and this might be an unpopular opinion: I don’t buy her “look at me I’m so sexy”-shtik. She looks uncomfortable most of the time, so to me it looks like trying to market the song to a certain audience, which seems to work. Can’t fault her for that. And I know we can’t take anything from the pre-parties, but her singing was non-existent to bad and I also wasn’t a fan of the dance… Read more »
I’m gay and i don’t want that, at the beginning i kinda like the song but something missing for me and i know what now. The main chorus is so so cheap. The song wants to be a banger but it’s not. For me, Kaleen have a lack of charisma and when i see her perform on stage i’m really cringe… Yeah she dance so freaking well but i’m absolutely not convinced by the song. The biggest downgrade of the season for me, sorry. Malta’s song is way better.
She managed to cover the weak song and the final product is average. The hottest lady of the seasson will give us a moment, I guess, but the song is a lot dated.
As you said she’s the hottest lady of the season, she needs nothing else really. That does most of the job in pop music. Her looks and moves alone elevate an “average pop song” to an eye and ear-catching anthem, an uggo could never deliver a song like this.
Ok, she isn’t the best singer in the world, but hey, she doesn’t have to be. It’s not that kind of song. And she is performing the song the way it’s supposed to be performed. What do you people want from the song named we will rave anyway??? In her place i would swing from chandeliers, brought 5 hot naked oiled man , and wear see through bodysuit with Swarovski all over it. Burn that stage down. The only thing important in competition is to be remembered, to gain that tele points. Good luck Austria, burn that stage, give us… Read more »
22) Austria – Eurodance isn’t really a genre I’m a fan of, but I don’t mind this. It’s just that if I want something to dance along to and have fun, I’d rather have something a little less intense. I’m sure Kaleen is great, but I’m not sure how the performance is going to pan out. 5.5/10
Also, that drum and bass part near the end kills me every time. I don’t even know why I find it so funny. (and yes before you ask, I think I have taken my medication…)
I think it will quality, but in the final , I think this will only end up somewhere in the middle, with some luck.
more good news, Belarus indefinitely suspended by the EBU!!!!
yassss good riddance that vile evil hellhole no longer competing in our beautiful contest
I really like this song, and I think it’s completely consistent with Kaleen’s image. It’s nothing new production and sound wise, but it serves its purpose amazingly.
It’s a little bit dates and she can’t even sing live! During the pre parties i could only hear the pre recorded backing vocals
Dated*
amazing ethno german schlager dance pop vibes! this is gonna do amazingly well i already know
wow wow wow, am speechless, austria’s all time best entry 10.5/10
These posts of yours are pretty boring now
Troll by definition. Looks at general mood in comments and posts exact opposite. Every. Single. Time.
I love the 90s house vibe it gives, but it does give me the feeling of those fan favorite entries that fans think are gonna come top 5 but end up maybe 16-18th place
Also i was expecting to get a Chanel level choreography, but im always dissapointed when she performs it
Honestly this is a puzzling entry for me when it comes to its final placing at the contest. I could even see it as a shock NQ.
31ST PLACE: AUSTRIA: It certainly has an anthemic vibe albeit in a somewhat dated fashion. Under the right circumstances, I may enjoy it if it’s on. Nevertheless it’s in a genre that’s completely not for me. I also can’t say that I enjoy Kaleen’s vocals: her vocal pitch doesn’t really resonate with me. Songs like this are also difficult to stage at Eurovision I reckon, so it will be interesting to see how it will fare there.
This sounds really dated and if it wasn’t for Sweden would be a great opener. Is it me or are the majority of songs this year trying to appeal more to the televote rather than the jury?
because they have to Q in televote semi
Generic… Bland… Outdated…
And that score is way to high..
“Giving the gays everything they want” – not really honey, not in a million years..
