The Wiwi Jury — our in-house team of music unprofessionals — is reviewing and rating the 37 competing songs in Eurovision 2024. Next we review Austria, who have chosen Kaleen with “We Will Rave”.

Do we have our glowsticks at the ready? Read on to find out!

Kaleen – “We Will Rave” (Austria Eurovision 2024)

Review: Kaleen – “We Will Rave”

Jonathan: Minus one point for being a few decades late. But otherwise, this is glorious! Enticing the listener with a soft opening, then building in the electronic beats towards a kick-ass chorus, “We Will Rave” instantly grabs you and proceeds to send you full throttle on the dancing journey of a lifetime. This is set to raise the roof off the Malmö arena and get the party started in every household across Europe, Australia, and the world. I’ve never been to a rave before, but you can consider me a convert if this is what they’re playing.

Score: 9

Lucy: Bringing the rave to Eurovision 2024 is Austria’s Kaleen. To many this would be a typically dance-y Eurovision number, however it harks back to 90’s rave so well it can’t be ignored. It truly gives us some highlights of Gatecrasher, Creamfields and God’s Kitchen in the space of three minutes. Kaleen is an incredible performer, and has some of the best choreo skills in the contest this year. Something about this doesn’t quite strike my soul to set it on fire, but it’s still some bloody good fun.

Score: 7

Scarlett: How many songs about leaving your broken heart on the dancefloor are out there? “We Will Rave” is yet another take on the “I’m gonna dance my pain away” theme often found in dance music. The trance-inspired instrumentals bring a dose of nostalgia that may or may not be welcome depending on the listener, while the drum and bass rhythms towards the end are a highlight – though the song never quite hits a climax. “We Will Rave” is a neat little pop song that lacks the grittiness of a full-on rave. Then again, it doesn’t claim to be one.

Score: 5

William: Raves are about music, dance and feeling the rhythm. But they’re also about freedom and letting yourself go. And when Kaleen performs “We Will Rave” that’s exactly what I want to do — lose myself to the music! Sick choreography, devil-may-care freedom, sensuality oozing from hips, hair whips that would leave Beyoncé blushing — Kaleen is giving the gays everything they want. Some have said this sounds “dated.” Well the ’90s are having a resurgence so that’s probably a good thing. Easily my favourite dance song of the year!

Score: 9

Tbh I’ve never been able to comprehend the hype around this entry. It’s the typical song those fans only interested in divas and bops would like, like Cyprus or Luxembourg. I mean, the song itself is uplifting but it’s not a winner by any means. At least it is different from other female uptempo songs, that’s what makes it more interesting and entertaining. 7/10 1. Lithuania (8,75/10) 2. Czechia (8.25/10) 3. Ireland (8/10) 4. Spain (7.75/10) 5. Norway (7.5/10) 6. Ukraine (7.5/10) 7. Belgium (7.25/10) 8. San Marino (7.25/10) 9. Sweden (7.25/10) 10. I’m not sure whether “sick chereo” with 90% of the song covered by loud backing vocals can be enough for this years top 10.
Also I don’t see “the gays” mass-voting for this when Spain literally holds them by their buttocks already (and they’re not likely to let them go).

For a song literally titled “We Will Rave”, what part in it contains anything related to raving besides her mentioning it? As a standalone song it sounds pretty good and anthemic on paper, but the weird correlation to something it says it is but is not, draws away some of that. Kaleen’s also shown that she is not quite capable of performing her song adequately, so whether this one really ends up doing well or not, it’s an uphill battle for now, given the strength of the second semifinal. It’s a 6.5/10 for me. I like the song enough as… Read more »

Kaleen said in an interview on a German channel, that she didn’t really know before, what a rave is. Well, the song doesn’t know it either. Everything about this is so bland and ridiculous, that it even doesn’t work as a parody.

When I saw there were 100+ comments I thought maybe something bad had happened. To my surprise, most of the comments are actually about the Austrian entry! I didn’t think there was much here to discuss, but by all means, do so. As for my review… When I was finishing primary school, I had a box of cassette tapes. They usually consisted of recordings taken directly from radio stations. One of the tapes started with a song by UK dance group Baby D, called “Let Me Be Your Fantasy.” How that Baby D song made me feel as a child… Read more »

11th place – Austria (personal ranking) I have so much to say about this song. First of all, the moment I first heard the song, I immediately thought about Romania’s singer Andreea Banica. I used to listen to Andreea a lot as a child and her type of music sounded exactly the same, with the difference that those kind of songs came out like 10-15 years ago, whilst Kaleen’s in 2024. I feel like Kaleen’s song is a copy-paste one and when everyone began overrating this on the internet, I became angry. Like come on, it isn’t something we’ve never… Read more »

Out of all the songs trying to capture the magic of 90’s commercial music, this one does the best job. And no, it has nothing to do with any gay s***. How many of you were kids back then?
Completely iresistible. My #3 favourite this year.

Wiwi jury scores are somewhat funny in some songs they like every year. Those songs usually flop, and that’s ok, personal taste and all.

But this year it is completely ridiculous for some songs to the extent I wonder do they really listened to those songs they are rating.

AUSTRIA – This year, Austria has decided to transport us to the 90s Eurodance era sprinkled with the elements of a rave party. This is not always my go-to style, but this song is pretty effective.  The chorus is very easy to sing along to. The beat can be seen as somewhat soft when it comes to a rave song, but it helps in memorizing the melody. The production feels a bit messy at parts, but it keeps you hooked.  Kaleen sells this on stage with her confident attitude and flattering attire. But when it comes to the vocals, hers… Read more »

I wasn’t even a fan of Fuego or Slomo at all when they first came out. But both were performance perfection, so much that I became a fan of both songs afterwards. I don’t see this happening here. All of Kaleen’s performances point towards the opposite. When a broadcaster advertises her as dance professional, I’m of course gonna compare her to the best which is Chanel. They are universes apart. Chanel performed an impressive choreo and sang in tune at the same time. Kaleen does neither, not even at once.

Eleni might not have the very best voice either but it’s still way more recognisable than Kaleen’s and she sang well all the way through. I was very impressed.

Wiwis have exclusive access to Austria’s team and were sent to Vienna to be in the farewell party so i am not surprised this song received high scores from the team. I want to see Austria doing great this year but i don’t see this doing as good as expected. The backing vocals (prerecorded) will do wonders for Kaleen whose voice doesn’t fit songs like this (it’s like asking Britney Spears sing techno live) but the choreo should be on fire and i trust that Marvin will do a great job with the lights and the staging. I think the… Read more »

It’s among those cheap, tinny things that he feels at home.

I listened to the official karaoke version last week and it sounded like the game “spot the difference”. I understand we’re in a song contest and it’s not about vocals only instead for a whole package, but come on, how is it supposed to be a fair competition when the instrumental version is almost THE SAME as the audio one and will be used as a backing on stage ?

That being said, “We will rave” is still very good and tremendously addictive. Good luck to Kaleen and Austria.

No vocals, and the moment of the song is either a dancebreak or the the base rhytm, fandom = wow top of the line…
Someone said, as a gay man it gives me nothing. Well as a straight man, this don’t work for me neither. At Eurovision a song has to work in either stage or vocals, when it fails ok both, you don’t too grade it, how is that not base thinking.

“Ugh”. An outdated store bought Swedish factory song, a singer with a very thin voice who still struggles every time she sings it even though she doesn’t move simultaneously and the backing track does all the work. What’s more, they praised her as this brilliant dancer and choreographer yet all she does is jump around a little. Chanel was impressive. This is a car crash on every level. Yay, it’s my last place this year! I say this with all the love in my heart for my Austrian neighbors, I respectfully hate it. Also, and this might be an unpopular opinion: I don’t buy her “look at me I’m so sexy”-shtik. She looks uncomfortable most of the time, so to me it looks like trying to market the song to a certain audience, which seems to work. Can’t fault her for that. I’m gay and i don’t want that, at the beginning i kinda like the song but something missing for me and i know what now. The main chorus is so so cheap. The song wants to be a banger but it’s not. 31ST PLACE: AUSTRIA: It certainly has an anthemic vibe albeit in a somewhat dated fashion. Under the right circumstances, I may enjoy it if it’s on. Nevertheless it’s in a genre that’s completely not for me. I also can’t say that I enjoy Kaleen’s vocals: her vocal pitch doesn’t really resonate with me. Songs like this are also difficult to stage at Eurovision I reckon, so it will be interesting to see how it will fare there.
