After being announced as Georgia’s Eurovision 2024 representative in January, Nutsa will represent the country with the song “Firefighter”.

Speaking to us at the London Eurovision Party, she explained the fire represents turmoil in the world, or as she put it, “the hate that is going on, the wars, killing each other — all this negativity.”

“Everyone can start the fire,” she says. “But you have to be a strong person to fight the hate with kindness and love.”

Georgia at Eurovision 2024: Nutsa Buzaladze with “Firefighter”

Nutsa Buzaladze was internally selected to represent Georgia in Malmö.

And it’s easy to see why. She’s a veteran of singing competitions, having competed on The Voice of Turkey (O Ses Türkiye), Georgia’s Got TalentYour Face Sounds Familiar and Dancing with the Stars. Most recently she competed on American Idol, making it all the way to the Top 12.

She auditioned with Patti LaBelle’s “Lady Marmalade.” The judges were impressed by her ability to sing and dance at the same time, but Katy Perry wanted to focus on Nutsa’s gorgeous voice.

“Look, there’s a voice in there,” Katy said. “I think maybe it was turned up too hot.”

Nutsa then performed Whitney Houston’s “Greatest Love of All,” which led to three yes votes from Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie.

What do the “Firefighter” lyrics mean?

Nutsa conveys a powerful message in the song, expressing a metaphorical fight against various negative aspects like wars, envy, and hate. The recurring theme of “I will save this love” reflects her kindness towards others and the desire to spread that love amid challenging times.

As she told our William in London: “I have experienced a lot of judgmental comments about me, a lot of hate, a lot of negativity. Since I was a kid I was fighting this negativity with love always. So that’s why I’m saying in this song that we have to put out the fire. Fire represents all this negativity that is going on in the world right now. I’m trying to save this love and I am actually putting out the fire with love.”

Throughout the song, there are references to fire, ashes, and burning, which can be interpreted metaphorically to signify conflicts, trials, or the aftermath of difficult situations. The imagery of ashes falling and the urgency to “put out the fire” evoke a sense of urgency and the need to address and resolve issues.

Despite the challenges depicted in the lyrics, there is a strong emphasis on the power of love and resilience. Lines such as “love makes us stronger” highlight the transformative and unifying force of love even amidst chaos and uncertainty.

The imagery of rising from ashes like a phoenix suggests themes of renewal, transformation, and rebirth. It symbolises the ability to emerge stronger and wiser from adversity, emphasising the resilience and indomitable spirit of the human experience.

The song also includes a call to action, urging listeners to come together, dance with the thunder, and save love. This reflects a desire for unity, cooperation, and collective effort in overcoming challenges and preserving what is valuable.

“Firefighter” lyrics — Nutsa Buzaladze (Georgia Eurovision 2024)

Music & lyrics: Ada Satka and Darko Dimitrov

I see it in the air, I see it in the air
I’m running through these ashes like a firefighter

Put out the fire, put out the fire.
Did we build empires just to watch them burn?
My heart’s beating louder, I’m running like tigers.
No fear in my eyes though.
I will save this love.

The ceiling is falling, the windows are burning.
It’s getting harder to breathe.

Can you hear me calling?
I see ashes falling.
I’m down on my knees.
But I will save this love.

I see it in the air, I see it in the air.
I’m rising from these ashes like a phoenix, yeah.
You know I’ll be there.
You know that I’ll be there.
I’m running through these ashes like a firefighter.

Put out the fire, put out the fire.
Put out the fire, put out the fire.
Put out the fire.

Come dance with the thunder,
Cause love makes us stronger.
We’re not here forever.
So can we save this love?

From lovers to fighters,
Oh, why do we do this?
We’re meant to rise higher and higher and higher.

The ceiling is falling, the windows are burning.
It’s getting harder to breathe.

Can you hear me calling?
I see ashes falling, falling, falling.

I see it in the air, I see it in the air.
I’m rising from these ashes like a phoenix, yeah.
You know that I’ll be there.
You know that I’ll be there.
I’ll be there, I’ll be there.

I see it in the air, I see it in the air.
I’m rising from these ashes like a phoenix, yeah.
You know I’ll be there.
You know that I’ll be there.
We’re running through these ashes like a firefighter.

I see it in the air, I see it in the air.
We’re rising from these ashes like a phoenix, yeah.
You know I’ll be there.
You know that I’ll be there.
We’re rising from these ashes like a phoenix, yeah.
