Roll over semi-final 1, it’s time for the acts of semi-final 2 to do their thing. On Monday, eight artists will have their first rehearsals on the Eurovision 2024 stage. They’re the acts competing in the first half of the second semi-final.

They’ll have 30 minutes to test out the stage to see how their graphics and camera angles are coming together. It will also allow them to start working out their jitters as they fill the arena with their voices for the very first time.

Throughout the day the EBU will release photos and short TikTok snippets. We’ll try to update this post as things drop. Regardless, please share your thoughts in the comments section throughout the day!

Eurovision 2024 rehearsal schedule | Day 3 (Monday 29 April)

Here’s the full Eurovision rehearsal schedule for Monday 29 April. All times are in CEST.

  • 10:30 — 11:00 Malta
  • 11:10 — 11:40 Albania
  • 11:50 — 12:20 Greece
  • 12:30 — 13:00 Switzerland
  • 14:10 — 14:40 Czechia
  • 14:50 — 15:20 Austria
  • 15:30 — 16:00 Denmark
  • 16:10 — 16:40 Armenia

Eurovision 2024 rehearsals | Day 3

1. 🇲🇹 Malta: Sarah Bonnici – “Loop”

@eurovision Malta’s @Sarah Bonnici has got the m-m-m-moves 🇲🇹 #Eurovision2024 ♬ original sound – Eurovision

Sarah Bonnici is all sparkles on the Malmö stage, wearing a glittery silver bodysuit. She’s joined by four backing dancers in black leather jackets and trousers. Even within the short TikTok clip, it’s clear that the Maltese team have put together a proper show — we see varying LEDs, multiple lifts, floor work, blindfolds, splits, and pyro. This is certainly set to get the semi-final off to a flashy start.

2. 🇦🇱 Albania: BESA – “TITAN”

@eurovision A TITAN of a first rehearsal from Albania’s @Besa 🇦🇱 #Eurovision2024 ♬ original sound – Eurovision

The theme of Eurovision 2024 appears to be large shoulders. BESA channels intergalactic warrior with her light blue stage costume, embellished with silver chain work. The Albanian star has two backing singers and three dancers with her — all dressed in grey with spikes on their elbows/shoulders. The dancers interact with BESA as she stands centre stage, and they also appear on the LED screen in the back. It looks like we’ll see a mic stand appear for the second verse thin air and then disappear again at a later point in the song.

3. 🇬🇷 Greece: Marina Satti – “ZARI”

@eurovision Put your hands up! @SATTI just achieved pop perfection at Greece’s first rehearsal 🇬🇷 #Eurovision2024 ♬ original sound – Eurovision

It was previously revealed that Marina’s performance would be done in one camera shot, and now we get to see this in action. The Greek star starts downstage with a pulsing white light. But once she joins her four dancers, the LEDs explode with colour. At one moment, they all pull out white handkerchiefs and perform traditional Greek dance moves. Style wise, Marina is in a two-piece pink outfit with knee-high boots, whilst her dancers are all in black.

4. 🇨🇭 Switzerland: Nemo – “The Code”

@eurovision When @nemothingsss said “Welcome to the show,” they meant it! Here’s how their first rehearsal looked 🇨🇭 #Eurovision2024 ♬ original sound – Eurovision

Nemo is dressing for life in the Swiss mountains, donning a pink and white fur jacket — witch matching fur boots. Their performance centres around a circular platform that tilts from one side to another. Nemo walks up, slides down and jumps off it throughout the song, all whilst hitting the operatic notes perfectly — someone’s been doing their cardio training. The lighting is rather dark with white strobes, adding to the overall atmosphere.

5. 🇨🇿 Czechia: Aiko – “Pedestal”

@eurovision You say icon, we say @Aikomakesmusic! Either way, there’s no coming down off that Pedestal 🇨🇿 #Eurovision2024 ♬ original sound – Eurovision

Czechia’s rehearsal is the first TikTok where we actually get 40 seconds of continuous footage. The cubes are lowered for the start of the performance to give it an intimate setting, before then being gradually lifted ahead of the first chorus. Aiko takes centre stage, with four dancers on each side of the cross moving around her. Red is the overall colour theme of the lighting, though we also see grey graphics of a band playing on the LED screen for the chorus.

6. 🇦🇹 Austria: Kaleen – “We Will Rave”

@eurovision Rum-di-dum-dum rehearsals have started for Austria, and the lasers are out for @kaleenmusic 🇦🇹 #Eurovision2024 ♬ original sound – Eurovision

Kaleen turns the Eurovision stage into a warehouse rave. The Austrian team have come with an extra inverted-pyramid-shaped lighting rig that shoots lasers during the performance. Kaleen begins with a long white coat that is removed to reveal a stone-encrusted leotard and boots. During the instrumental sections, the star busts plenty of moves and is hoisted up into the air by her backing dancers. They’re certainly ready to put on a show!

7. 🇩🇰 Denmark: SABA – “SAND”

@eurovision @SABA got to have her first run-through of SAND at Malmö Arena, and it was an epic display 🇩🇰 #Eurovision2024 ♬ original sound – Eurovision

Whilst her Dansk Melodi Grand Prix performance lacked the titular element of the song, SABA has now officially added sand for her Eurovision performance. The Danish singer pours it out of her hands during the first pre-chorus; meanwhile, the second pre-chorus features an image of SABA appear on the LED background with virtual sand particles. The other key element to the performance is fog, which covers the cube-shaped pedestal SABA is stood on and creates a mystifying feel in combination with the amber lighting.

8. 🇦🇲 Armenia: LADANIVA – “Jako”

@eurovision Bags of energy and bursts of colour – @LADANIVA ♬ original sound – Eurovision

Cubes are certainly the in-thing this year. LADANIVA have a central staging piece constructed out of this shape, with instrumentalist Louis stood on top alongside a number of other musicians. Singer Jaklin performs in front, behind and on the construction during the three minutes, giving the audience a view from every angle. Later on, the LEDs come to life with images of Jaklin as well as a multitude of chickens. LADANIVA have definitely infused the performance with their fun, colourful energy.

Why does every rehearsal need to be a dress rehearsal nowadays? To supply “content” for TikTok and generate buzz

It’s a shame the acts can’t just wear jeans and a T shirt. Instead of “rehearsing” under the lens of a public pressure cooker.

Yeah… but there will be more time for that. Actual “dress” rehearsals. I have problem with acts wearing their full gear if that’s what they want. I just don’t like them being contractually obligated to. Or that they feel pressure to live up to social media expectations. To be judged on a rehearsal means it is NOT a rehearsal, but part of the actual show.

Since you seem to love Windows95Man he has told, that he did not know what he will be allowed to wear on stage before this first rehersal. So Finnish delegation had a huge pile of different coloured jockstaps, briefs and boxers and he wore the smallest one to the first rehersal and waited for the EBU’s undie inspector to tell if that was ok or not.

There are many divisive factors with some of the biggest odds favourites this year…outfits, vocals, silliness… i still believe none of them don’t really feel like a Eurovision winner. I still think France has the better chance to be a runaway jury winner this year based on vocal capability and the familiarity in the song, and televotes will be split between the OTT-style of songs. Also Serbia looks like a safe bet for top5 as well now, and definitely Norway will be the darkest horse of the year, they way things turn out right now….

Closing off the day… Denmark was a nice surprise, the staging elevates the song to the level where it may qualify. The song per se is no masterpiece but it’s effective. Let’s see! Armenia on the other side was a bit flat. To be honest, the song is repetitive and flat at times (although I appreciate the ethnic sounds). Long story short, if you have a good song, staging can elevate it a lot if your song is not that good, good staging can elevate it to certain level only. I still believe the song is the #1 factor. Good news for the Netherlands, they can win the contest after seeing the Swiss outfit and smiling. Nemo looks like Guildo Horn for Germany in 1998. People at home will think it’s a circus act. Please Nemo wear something else, this is not always just artistic choice – it is a song contest and you want to make an impact. Switzerland… is this really what represent the non-binary identity? The outfit looks ridiculous… or, I mean… if this ONE outfit is a part of several «dress reveals» then it is completely fine…but as a sole outfit through the entire performance it just looks ridiculous. Especially when he does the rap part in this outfit he will just look weird and voters will be put off. Start off with this outfit…rip it off before the first high note, then another outfit for rap part and then finish with a 4th and final outfit, play with colours and expressions please… keeping this… Read more »

Well…i still don’t think it will appeal to televoters much. Outfit shouldn’t distract from a song, or become the main talking point of the performance – the outfit should just ‘fit’ perfectly. I believe part of the reason why Conchita won back in 2014 was because she had chosen a beautiful classy dress for her performance back then, combined with perfect styling (hair and make up), visuals and a vocal power performance. The entire performance surprised me in such a positive way that it went from being in my top 25 to my favourite on the night. I despised the… Read more »

All this obsession with Nemo’s outfit is a function of the dripfeed of material we’re getting at this stage. A few stills and some seconds of video. From Thursday at second rehearsal through to jury show and semi two, it will all be about the dynamics of the moving plinth and their singing. In short: we’ve only had a scrap of the first course. More..much more to come .

I don’t think those two songs are comparable. Telemoveis was very very strange and hard for lambda viewers to enter in. The Code is more accessible and has this epic vibe that should work with the public. What I fear really is the outfit. For me it could harm Nemo’s chances of victory.

Yea, I’m not necessarily talking bout the songs/melodies etc. More so the outfit specifically. I will say, if Switzerland is really gonna play on and market the non-binary part of the song, it won’t be that accesible, as 99% of the world identifies as either male of female.

Yeah, I fear that the outfit will negatively impact the televote. I never really understood Nemo’s style choices, but I feel that some of their outfits in the preparties were quirky, but at least a bit more aesthetic… This feels just a little too “back room of a theatre’s costume department” and looks pretty cheap from close by.
And I actually want this to do well/win!

I really don’t like Besa’s outfit. Doesn’t fit the song at all.

Albania is the most covered up of these 7. Who would have thought that.

I really like what I see from Malta. I mean if a very terrible dancebreak with terrible visual effects allowed Poland to finish in the top 10 of the public last year with such a bad song, then Malta deserves to qualify this year 😉

And I say this with Malta being in my bottom 7 this year

First thought after listening to Marina’s tiktok – pitchy!

Keep in mind everyone that this is the first rehearsal. They all try things. Some will improve some may not. Also, we may not see the final performance as many teams keep things for the actual dress rehearsal. I don’t think the visuals for Greece will be those colorful static ones. I bet most teams hide an ace in their sleeves.

I hope you’re right – that pink static looks like a college art project

Everything looks great until now! Well done Albania, Greece and Switzerland. Malta’s staging also looks promising.

Watched Greece’s tiktok clip. It looks way more promising from the photos! I can’t wait to see the angles from the camera, I feel it’s going to be epic.

The song is a banger. Even with a mediocre staging it would do well. She is professional and delivers.

Pics are not doing it justice, but from the clip we can clearly see that staging looks ok, despite Zari being generic Greek song (like 1000 others in Greece)

Marina’s images didn’t do the aesthetics of the staging justice because, now that the Tik Tok clip is out, it looks aabsolutely exceptional. Judging by what we have seen so far today, I’d say Malta, Greece (yay!) and Austria (the Tik Tok hasn’t even come out yet but the pics look spectacular) have the most promising stagings today. Switzerland was also good, although thw outfit selection seems a bit bizzare.

Greece delivered. The song is a banger. Switzerland, too. Good luck to everyone!

Wow! I think Nemo (aka Pink Yeti) shot themselves in the foot with this staging. Upon first look this does not look very exciting or dynamic at all. Hopefully they’re able to sing the opera parts live at Eurovision, instead of using the backing track. Based on this, Nemo needs jury points big time!

They didn’t shoot anything, the whole project was pretty much that, “everything all at once” feeling
