Contrary to the commonly perpetuated myth about the song contest killing careers, we’re always thrilled to report that singers associated with Eurovision are thriving.

Here is our latest weekly roundup with a selection of the songs released recently by Eurovision stars.

New music from Eurovision artists: 2024 | Week 31

Jerry Heil & Volodymyr Dantes – “ГУБИ У ГУБАХ”

Starting strong this week with an amazing song from Ukraine! Jerry competed this year alongside alyona alyona, making their country proud. Now, she has collaborated with fellow Ukrainian artist Volodymyr Dantes on a song that could be both a summer hit and a deeply nostalgic piece. Titled “Lips on Lips,” the song reminisces about memories and youth, reflecting on a time when the biggest problems were not actually that big and also about young love. Their voices blend perfectly in this dance-pop track, capturing the essence of Ukraine with subtle influences . Accompanied by a music video, the visuals depict them nostalgically looking back at their past through a video camera, conveying both joy and nostalgia. Jerry shared about their latest song:

“I wanted to remind about carefree times, when the worst was too late to come home The summer that seemed endless, summer camps, the first kisses, fights at the club, freedom and the feeling that the whole life is ahead, when it is behind only the parental home from which you want to escape.”

Sunstroke Project & Lidia Isac – “Portofino”

Sunstroke Project competed for Moldova twice, first in 2010 and then again in 2017. After collaborating with Moldova’s Eurovision icon Natalia Barbu a few weeks ago, they have now teamed up with Lidia Isac, who represented her country in 2016. Their latest song is in Italian and exudes a perfect summer vibe, featuring a jazzy mood enhanced by the renowned Epic Sax Guy. The song tells a love story set in an Italian summer, depicting a trip to Portofino, an ideal location for a summer romance against a picturesque Italian backdrop: “In Portofino/ A lighthouse will guide us/ In Portofino/ Amidst the colours of the city/ In Portofino.” True to their style, Sunstroke Project’s songs are memorable from the first listen, and despite experimenting with genres and introducing surprisingly jazzy vibes this time, the song has significant radio potential.

ALIKA feat. villemdrillem – “mis minuga saab?”

ALIKA represented Estonia in Eurovision back in 2022, and she has been shining on the charts ever since. Her newest song is no exception, becoming an instant hit in Estonia and topping the charts immediately. Titled “What Will Happen To Me?”, the song is a collaboration with rapper villemdrillem. ALIKA’s strong vocals, bolstered by her confidence and the powerful tune of the track, create a perfect pop song. With lyrics like “Yesterday is fading away/ The thoughts are full of you,” the song explores the uncertainty between past and future, as well as reason and emotion. The music video is highly cinematic, making the entire package even more epic.

Anxhela Peristeri – “Habibi”

If you are looking for a summer banger, Anxhela has the perfect song for you. She represented Albania back in 2021, but her newest song brings an interesting mixture. The title is in Arabic, meaning “my love,” but the song is in Greek. In the music video, Anxhela looks simply fabulous, and the song is so inviting that it makes us want to dance instantly with its traditional influences. This song was first released in Albanian back in 2022 as a collaboration with Capital T and Mandi, becoming an instant success. This version, even with different lyrics, still speaks about a lover for whom she has unstoppable feelings: “My boy, oh my boy/ You blew my mind/ And I go crazy/ When you’re not here.”

Dons – Laiks

Dons captivated us all with his voice when he represented Latvia in this year’s Eurovision edition. After leaving us yearning for more with the teaser song “Sāp” — first released in English as “Dark” — he has finally unveiled his new album, titled Time. The album features 12 songs, including 3 instrumental tracks (the intro, interlude, and outro). All the songs are in Latvian, showcasing the beauty of the language alongside Dons’ exceptional vocals and compositional talent. The album includes powerful and energetic tunes like “Klusums kliedz” (The silence screams) as well as touching ballads like “Atgriezies” (Return). Additionally, he delighted his fans with a music video for “Bultiņa melnā” (Black Arrow), one of the standout tracks on the album.

Ochman – “Siłacz”

Ochman represented Poland in 2022, and if you are looking for a song to wash away the pain and sorrow from your heart, we have the perfect track for you. If you want to recharge your batteries or take a break from being strong for a day, use this song as your soothing soundtrack.

LUM!X, Alle Farben & Noel Holler – “Gonna Dance With Somebody”

It’s time to add some electronic vibes to this week’s playlist. LUM!X, the Austrian DJ who represented his country in Eurovision back in 2022 with Pia Maria, has joined forces with Alle Farben and Noel Holler to release the perfect summer club song for all EDM and electronic music fans. The track features lyrics like “I’m falling in love with your favourite song/ I’m gonna sing it all night long/ I’m gonna dance with somebody,” capturing the essence of music that brings people together and the energy of summer festivals. The song is accompanied by a lyric video, perfect for singing along.

Samira Said – “Zann”

Samira represented Morocco in 1980, and her newest song is a modern banger infused with traditional turbo folk influences. Her energy in the music video is simply contagious, matching the vibrant energy of the song. The main theme is love and finding your zen again after someone has made your heart go crazy and caused you to lose sleep: “It is clear my heart has gone crazy/ It is clear I’m in love.” The tune is perfect for summer days, with a joyful and uplifting vibe.

Edurne – “Mírame”

Edurne, who competed for Spain in 2015, is here to make you fall in love with her new song. “Look at Me” is an incredible dance-pop track that will instantly become your summer anthem. Besides its catchy vibes, you’ll be mesmerised by the music video, which brings together dance and energy, sporty aesthetics, and a powerful visual of how much a tear can hold inside it. Edurne plans to make you dance with her latest track while she has announced that this song will be part of her upcoming album, marking the eighth album of her career.

ZOË – “Paname”

ZOË, who represented Austria in Eurovision 2016, is gearing up for a new album and has been unveiling her songs one by one, showcasing the strong retro French influences in her music. “Paname” is no exception, bringing the chanson réaliste genre back into the spotlight with a modern twist. This musical style, inspired by French cafés and cabarets, has its roots in the 1880s. ZOË’s sweet voice carries the song beautifully, transporting us back in time and down memory lane.

Dian Solo, Doncho & Nina Nikolina – “Ти”

Dian Solo, part of the trio Deep Zone Project who represented Bulgaria in 2008, has teamed up with Doncho and Nina Nikolina to create a fresh version of Nina’s iconic song “You.” Originally released in 2003, the song quickly gained fame in Bulgaria and beyond. This new version blends the original track with EDM elements, making it perfect for a DJ set at a summer festival. The lyrics explore the tumultuous effects of love and how a person can completely turn your world upside down: “You are an eternal secret, forgotten in me, I see you/ You are silent madness delivered/ You are a black thought that has subsided, you are hurting me/ You’re a new power, you’re drinking me up/ I’m looking for you/ I want to discover you in me/ Where are you?”

Theodor Andrei feat. Niță – “Zendaya”

Theodor Andrei represented Romania in 2023 and is gearing up for this summer with his latest song, a vibrant mix of rap, Latino, and Afrobeat, created in collaboration with Niță. The track tells the story of a girl named Zendaya who completely transformed him and left a lasting impact. It’s a party-starter designed to get you on the dance floor instantly and offers something entirely new in Theodor’s discography. A music video is also on the way.

Sanja Vučić & Dusan Svilar – “Znas li gde je nebo moje”

Sanja competed in Eurovision both as a solo artist in 2016 and as part of the group Hurricane in 2021, having been initially selected to compete in 2020 before the contest was cancelled due to the pandemic. Her newest song marks a departure from her recent music, presenting a touching traditional ballad in duet with Dušan Svilar. The track, titled “Do You Know Where My Heaven Is?” is filmed in a church, showcasing the beauty of Serbian architecture, heritage, and traditional sounds, as well as the harmonious blend of their voices.

Valinor Excelsior feat. Ronnie Romero – “Don’t Pretend”

And this week ends with some pure metal energy. Ronnie Romero was part of Intelligent Music Project, the last Bulgarian representatives in 2021. This time he gives his vocal to a collaboration with the Colombian metal band Valinor Excelsior. The song speaks about breaking free and being authentic instead of pretending, even when people judge you for this: “It will not  always rain/ Time will erase the bloodstain/ Breaking chains will be enough to realise/ A new day is coming with its freedom/ You will not be the same, is time to start again.” The song is simply empowering and a perfect way to get a confidence boost at the end of this week’s playlist.
