Debuting in 2006, Ukraine has been a constant strong presence in Junior Eurovision, nabbing one of the most dominating victories in 2012 with Anastasiya Petryk’s “Nebo” and hosting the contest twice. And now, it’s Artem Kotenko who will continue this legacy with the dance-pop track “Hear Me Now.”

Ukraine in Junior Eurovision 2024: Artem Kotenko with “Hear Me Now”
Okhtyrka-born Artem Kotenko has been a devoted fan of the Eurovision Song Contest since he saw it for the first time in 2019. Despite the recent difficulty of living in a town in Eastern Ukraine, he has never let his passion for music and the contest fade, even if he had to follow it from a bunker. The young singer loves theatre, playing piano and dancing.
He first attempted to represent Ukraine at Junior Eurovision in 2023, making it to the longlist of potential artists, but not able to make it to the televised final. Fast forward to 2024, Artem not only made it to the national final but went on to win the whole show in a tiebreaker, with the public vote being the decider to send him to Madrid.

What do the “Hear Me Now” lyrics mean?
Previously titled “Dim” and renamed to the main hook “Hear Me Now,” this Ukrainian-English track emphasises the importance Artem gives to his home, and how significant it is to truly blossom and be oneself. “Home is where you spread your wings. Where the faith in your dreams grows. Home is where you can be yourself. Whoever you want to be, your loved ones will stay by your side.”
The song highlights that home is where you and your loved ones can prosper; that no matter the problems, it’s all worth it when they all can grow and be happy together.
This is a message to be heard by the masses loud and clear. “I’ve waited a long time to say to the whole world. I’m ready to struggle for you as long as I hear my beat.”
