The Netherlands were late confirming their participation in Eurovision 2025 following the country’s disqualification at the 2024 contest. But, the events haven’t deterred big-named Dutch artists from submitting bids to represent their country in Basel. Broadcaster AVROTORS has quite some enthusiasm for the upcoming Dutch Eurovision bid, confirming they received 331 submissions.
Speaking on talkshow Beau on Friday, Eurovision commentator Cornald Maas was positive of the entries that he had heard. He said:
“What I find striking is that there’s many submissions and [I agree with] what Jaap Reesema — another selection committee member — said to ANP earlier this week, that there’re really a few very good songs.”
In addition, Cornald added that the Dutch entrant would be chosen as quickly as possible, likely no later than sometime in January.
Among the artists confirmed to be in the race to fly the Dutch flag at Eurovision 2025 are previous contestants Douwe Bob (2016) and Anouk (2013). Last year, Douwe Bob also submitted songs but AVROTROS chose Joost Klein instead.
Anouk, meanwhile, has never submitted a song to the selection committee since her song “Birds” finished ninth in Malmö. Although ever as popular among the Dutch audience, Anouk’s participation could cause controversy over her views on trans women that caused a stir earlier in 2024.
Wulf, who was an interval act at Eurovision 2021 hosted by the Netherlands, revealed on Facebook that he is also among the 331 bids received by AVROTROS, writing: “Did I now really submit a song for Eurovision?”
In 2018, with his song “All Things Under The Sun“, he became a household name in the Netherlands. Unfortunately, since the rise of Dutch-language pop in the early 2020s, he has faded from the limelight somewhat. Maybe Eurovision could prove his comeback?
Tangarine — a duet between 41-year-old identical twin brothers Sander and Arnout Brinks — have also been open about submitting a song to AVROTROS. Fame came relatively late to the two brothers living in Zwolle, as this year’s edition of the musical television programme De Beste Zangers introduced many Dutch people to Tangarine for the first time. Although they plan a tour in May next year, the brothers told local newspaper De Stentor:
“Ever since our participation at Beste Zangers, we’ve often been asked if we want to participate. That gets under your skin. The nice thing is that we created a song three months ago at our kitchen table.”
“We are very down to earth, maybe it’s because we come from the north. It still feels like a faraway thing, there are so many talented candidates. We are luckily very good in letting go and at living in the moment.”
“It’s very small song about our personal situation.”
Who do you want to see sing in Basel? Do you think one of these four artists could bring the Netherlands a win at Eurovision 2025? Let us know in the comments below!
Lets make NL great again: Anouk, please!!!
Anouk actually submitted a song last year together with Dutch rapper Latifah, so saying this is her first submission since Birds is not correct.
Snollebollekes ftw
Pass on Anouk. We don’t need a raging terf in the contest the year after we have our first nonbinary winner
The answer is difficult, because we don’t know the songs. But if I am allowed to change the question a bit and ask myself whose song are you the most eager to know, then I say Paul Morris, Wulf and Douwe Bob
No, I mean Paul Morris, Wulf and Anouk.
I love Anouk. She’s the Dutch pop icon of icons. She’s always been controversial since the start of her career and quite frankly I agree with her opinion on the controversie. Very interested in what she will bring to the table!
I don’t, she already said she’s not going to do interviews, only press conferences, that’s a bit arrogant. I also don’t like her recent music, it’s for sure not televote friendly. I Hope they choose someone else and surprise us in a good way. Let’s not forget Anouk also wrote the song of Trijntje Oosterhuis and Trijntje became last with it.
Loooooved anouk s entry Birds… And honestly i have nooo patience left nor time to waste with what any potential last controversy was about or what anybody thinks about anybodyelses life choice or sexuality.. Seriously.
Loved Birds, but the things Anouk has said about us, I can’t possibly support her.
I’ve liked her for years, but why is she saying these things? Does she realise she’s going to alienate a huge chunk of her fan base? And then why does she want to enter the contest again, especially one that’s so LGBQ+ friendly?
Because apparently everybody thinks everybody else is stuuupid enough not to be able to Just listen when the song starts and maybe listen to something else when she speaks or says bollocks? And e joy life? Maybe? As an option?
My hope is that some of the artists from the Regio Songfestival are also submitting. There have been some really cool and interesting acts to come out of that the last two years!
Dominique de Bont (Brabant Regio Songfestival 2024) also submitted a rock entry
Luca her entry Illusion would be a amazing entry yes!!
I don’t think they are good enough yet.
Could Anouk and Floor – in a duet or a band – with a rock song be a possibility? *Epic* *and* *iconic*!!!
Wowza, this could be something out of the ordinary which is very super good.
I’m hoping for cooler, younger and more exciting artists and a less save choice.
20 years ago, but not anymore.
Netherlands 2023 wasn’t just a dream; it was however something bord ering on realms of fantasy.
Netherlands 2024 – no comment.
Dus choose well for 2025 a.u.b.
No country, no pop, no joke acts from the Netherlands hopefully. Another entry in Dutch would be *amazing*!!!!
english language entry hopefully though
we need english to aim for the win again
Joost was not a joke act.
What’s so wrong with country?
We never had a joke-act
De Toppers (2009) and Joost (2024) say hi
Anouk would be nice, she got a rock song, not a depressing snooze like Birds
her rock era is when i was a fan of her, i still like classic bangers like ”Girl”
Wulf has ESC winner potential with the right song i think, also big staging potential
Tangarine would be a too big of a risk to take, Georgia 2021 alternative vibes think like that, poetry like Leonard Cohen, Simon & Garfunkel
I really hope Numidia sent something, her live vocal is soooo good. Also hope for Merol, her song “Applaus” (which is a banger) apparently came second in the 2023 internal selection. That song alone would’ve 100% made it to the grand final…
Numidia is not among them
Bring us a gem like De Diepte please.
My winner in 2022 and deserved a much higher place
Netherlands needs someone new next year, I want Maan or Froukje.
I want Maan together with Goldband. We shall see.
Oh yes!!
Froukje is my favourite too.
If Maan represents us, she should do it as a duet. When she sings in a duet, she is great. When she sings solo, she is insanely overhyped.
Or both…
