Another country has been added to the list! Armenia has confirmed its return to Eurovision 2025…and with it the revival of their national selection contest, Depi Evratesil. Will they find the perfect contestant for the show to represent them in Basel next May? We can’t wait to find out.

Armenia confirms Eurovision 2025 return

Armenia’s national broadcaster, AMPTV, has officially confirmed Armenia’s participation in Eurovision 2025 through a commercial aired on national TV. Notably, after several years of relying on internal selections, Armenia will return to its national selection process, Depi Evratesil, providing an opportunity for more artists to showcase their songs.

Details remain scant, but AMPTV has stated that anyone aged 16 or older by May 13 is eligible to apply. Further information and guidelines are expected to be released soon.

Armenia in Eurovision

Armenia debuted at Eurovision in 2006, marking their entrance with André, who was internally selected to represent the country. His performance earned Armenia an impressive 8th place in the Grand Final, securing a top 10 finish on their first attempt.

In 2007, Armenia introduced a national selection process, Armenian Selection, to choose their Eurovision representatives. Over the next six years, this method brought them notable success, including multiple top 10 finishes. A highlight during this period was Sirusho’s 4th place in 2008 with the iconic Eurovision song “Qele Qele.” However, after Emmy failed to qualify in 2011 and the Dorians finished 18th in 2013, the country reconsidered its selection strategy.

From 2014, Armenia opted for internal selections, starting with Aram MP3, who achieved their second-best result to date—4th place with “Not Alone.” This method continued until 2017, when Armenia introduced a revamped national selection process, Depi Evratesil. Artsvik won the first edition of this show.

However, from 2018 onward, Armenia faced a challenging period. Two consecutive entries failed to qualify: Sevak Khanagyan’s “Qami” (selected through Depi Evratesil) in 2018 and Srbuk’s “Walking Out” in 2019 (selected internally). The situation seemed to improve in 2020, when Athena Manoukian’s “Chains on You” gained significant popularity among Eurovision fans, but the contest was canceled due to the pandemic.

After a brief hiatus, Armenia returned to Eurovision in 2022, resuming internal selections. The comeback marked a turning point, with Rosa Linn’s “Snap” achieving modest results at the contest (20th place in the Grand Final) but later becoming a global phenomenon. Thanks to its viral success on TikTok, “Snap” became one of Eurovision’s most-streamed songs, reaching one billion streams on Spotify in May 2024. It is the fastest Eurovision song to achieve this number of streams and the most-streamed entry by a non-winner. Rosa Linn’s success, including performances as part of Ed Sheeran’s opening act or numerous international collaborations, has made her one of the most well-known Armenian artists at a global level.

In 2024, Armenia continued their success with Ladaniva’s “Jako,” a song rich in ethnic influences that celebrated women’s empowerment and free will. The entry finished on the 8th place.

What song do you wish to hear from Armenia this year? Any artists on your wish list? Let us know in the comments below.

38 and counting, both Romania and North Macedonia have kept the door open for a return. Would love to see a nice round 40 in Basel

And the 28th National Finals of the season confirmed, I have never lived an Esc pre season with so many NFs, February is already so overpacked. An advice if you want to do a NF and get a momentum, do it now in December or in January, In December we have only one NF and in January only 2 at the end of the month, so there’s space. On the opposite in February we will have 18 NFs! 18! Without talking about all the Heats and Semi-Finals etc. For the shortest month of the year it’s huge! March is already… Read more »

Personnaly, I think we’re having a NF this year. There doesn’t seem to be a heavyweight in the field for the delegation right now considering recent declarations, on the other side, there’re a lot of promising tracks by French emerging artists dropping here and there since 2-3 weeks with some having a lot of potential for a national contest ! We’ll know soon…

Ok cool, which names among the French emerging artists and which tracks you have in mind for a NF? When it could be? When we had a French NF in January for example we already knew it since weeks… There are very big names who are very friend with France TV, and considering that the French team wants the entire France to be involved and supportive like never according to the HOD I bet on an already big established artist/group. To be fair the French NFs never really worked audience wise so it’s not like that they will get the… Read more »

I was thinking about that but a big DJ like Sinclar, Solveig or Guetta collaborating with a big name like Santa, Christophe Willem, Chimène Badi or other established artist who is really vocally competent in live, it could be a good option too.

And I forgot to mention that but I think France TV could bet on an artist who made one of the Olympics or Paralympics ceremonies because of the exposition they already got in France and abroad.
Yseult did it but already said no to Eurovision. Aya Nakamura could but vocally in live I find her weak.
So I will keep an eye on Santa, Zaho de Sagazan, Lucky Love, Christine and the Queens, and Martin Solveig.

Patrick Bruel could also be a good shout, his recent releases ”Encore Une Fois” and ”Origami” are very lovely songs

would personally also love Aya Nakamura but she is a too big name (how much she slayed at the opening ceremony of the olympics this year)

or that band who performed in the closing ceremony, Phoenix, i like them too

Patrick Bruel and Eurovision something doesn’t click to me. He doesn’t fit imo.
I find Aya not really good in live.
Phoenix could be a good option, true.

But talking about Origami, they guy who made this duo with Patrick Bruel, Ycare, could be a really good pick, he is a great singer and really interesting.

As of now, I can’t get out of my mind “Les Ogres” by Solann (who has Armenian roots btw). This song from her upcoming album dropped last week with music video and it leaves instantly a huge impact. There’s been the rumor about song “Titanic” from electro-pop duo Lunis (denied since then) too. Among French artists that published music very recently are also Star Academy 2024 winner Pierre Garnier, singer-songwriter Hoshi, The Voice Kids coach Claudio Capéo, 2022 Victoire de la musique for Best Show Ben Mazué (song is called “C’est l’heure” but he is planning an album for February)… Read more »

“Les ogres” is a great song! Idk if it could work in Eurovision but great discovery thank you! Ben Mazué is such a great talent, I love the progression and the big orchestration in “C’est l’heure”, this kind of orchestration is impactful, a song like that could do well in Eurovision I agree. I heard the rumor about Lunis too but not a big fan of Titanic. Hoshi, Clara Luciani, Anne-Sila Juliette Armanet, would be great options, they have all great voices Pierre Garnier doesn’t make songs that could do well in Eurovision imo, but he could mobilize all the… Read more »

Nice to have Armenia in Eurovision – But when will Legenia make their debut?
