A total of 38 countries will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel. The list remains identical to last year’s with the exception of one addition, which takes us from 37 acts to 38. That’s thanks to the return of Montenegro (and, in fact, the return of their Eurovision 2013 participant Nina Žižić. No countries have withdrawn and none are debuting.

The semi-final allocation draw will take place on Tuesday 28 January. It will allocate 32 of the participating countries to either Semi-Final 1 or Semi-Final 2. As ever, the Big 5 and the host country will receive automatic bids to the final.

I saw Poli interview in Amsterdam, and I agree with her, let the musicians really play live music on the Eurovision stage please thank you.
A musical contest without live music is something so paradoxal, it needs to change.
I mean Eurovision young musicians exists, and they play live music on stage, so it’s not something impossible to do, so why not?

I am not so concerned about how many countries participate. I just want to see singers actually singing live and not dance acts singing just a little bit to backing tracks.

Did anyone else notice Tommy Cash’s song is about stressful working environments and the use of coffee as coping mechanism?

Tommy Cash didn’t joke when he said he came for revenge.

If you’re going to support a g3n0cidal state with a war criminal as their prime minister, you should at least learn how to spell their name right.

A warrant by a biased prosecutor means nothing. And is not a conviction.

ICC, ICJ, UN all became a joke, especially since Ir4n became head of the ‘Human Rights’ Department. Lol

So many ignorant people on wiwi.

I am looking forward to all 38 songs.

We’ve never had 38 countries competing at Eurovision before, although it would’ve been 38 in the 2006 contest had Serbia and Montenegro not withdrawn at the last minute due to a controversy in their national final.

There have been more than 38, though, as recently as 2022.

True, we did breach the 40 country mark in several past contests, but 38 is a number we never had as a total ever*

*apart from 2006 that became 37 when Serbia and Montenegro withdrew like I mentioned earlier.

Nothing really, just an interesting observation. Since Eurovision expanded into multiple nights, we had:

36 (2004)
37 (2006, 2014, 2023, 2024)
39 (2005, 2010, 2013, 2021)
40 (2015,2022)
41 (2019, 2020)
42 (2007, 2009, 2012, 2016, 2017)
43 (2008, 2011, 2018)

As you can see, we’ve never had a contest with 38 countries total, or at least stick with it. May I remind you all that 2006 was originally going to be 38 countries, but Serbia and Montenegro dropped out.

Seeing the participating countries list, we already know the plans for 2025 for almost all the participating countries and we’re only in December, it’s cool, only Australia, Austria, Azerbaidjan, Georgia, France remain a bit blurring…if by chance anybody has infos, I’ll take it. I just know that Australia will probably go with an internal selection but nothing sure yet, for France we will get infos at the end of the month but so far we know nothing…last year we already got everything since one month, the artist AND the song, but this year not the case… Austria, Azerbaidjan and Georgia… Read more »

But Monaco, Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia I believed in you….sad.
I had a little hope for Turkey too but a very small…
Still 38 countries is not bad, still one more than the last edition, finally all the drama 2024 has not affected the participation list at all as many predicted but quite the opposite.
Also I would have loved see an inviting country to spice up the thing, like Australia, I know the Eurovision purists don’t like that too much but Australia was a great addition so why not another one…

After all the toxicity of this year, there’s more countries competing in 2025. The EBU’s incompetence and mishandling of events in Malmö has led to success. They’re failing upwards.

Again the same toxicity. Israel an an history on ESC . People in Israel love ESC . Unfortunately they are at war . Look at all the countries surrounding Israel . Imagine the Uk France Portugal or Spain had frontiers with Syria Iran and with proxies Countries…. Just imagine . I’m not defending the leader. I’m defending the right if Osrael to be A free country when every other country in the region just want the end of Israel

Israel occupied Lebanon from 1982-2000 then tried invading them this year. They’ve occupied Palestine since 1948 and Syria’s Golan Heights since 1967. They’ve bombed 5 countries since last year and have launched 10 times more missiles than other groups. Their prime minister and war minister have been charged as war criminals. They are not the victim here.

They just happen to win the war after wars that the surrounding countries have started against them already since 1948. I wish my country would be as blessed to win the war.

I am looking forward to their entry for 2025.
