The Eurovision 2025 season is beginning to heat up. Over the course of the next few months, we will all fall in and out of love with scores of new national final and Eurovision entries. But that doesn’t mean we forget about the artists from past contests.

Contrary to the commonly perpetuated myth about the song contest killing careers, we’re always thrilled to report that singers associated with Eurovision are thriving.

Here is our latest weekly roundup with a selection of the songs released recently by Eurovision stars.

New music from Eurovision artists: 2024 | Week 51

Jerry Heil – “СНІГ”

“And the snow lies, and I’m like snow / Dripping likе a stain from the roof / And the snow fell to my feet / And you couldn’t еven melt away.”

Jerry Heil is getting into the wintry feel of things. Ukraine’s Eurovision 2024 star has crafted a winter album that will be released later in the season, but has begun teasing it with the first single “СНІГ” (“Snow”). Starting off as a melancholic piano ballad, the song brings in additional beats and strings from the second verse. In the description of the music video, filmed in Kyiv’s Motherland Monument, Jerry Heil writes about her upcoming body of work and this first single:

The album is filled with bold decisions, unexpected collaborations, and heartfelt lyrics, where every song is a confession of one of my archetypes. The chorus of this song sat in my drafts for several years. I kept coming back to it, but… Then one winter morning (actually, a November morning when the first snow fell), I sat down at the piano, and the puzzle finally came together. ‘СНІГ’ is a New Year’s story about relationships — a reminder that the New Year is a perfect chance to truly start a NEW YEAR in your life.”

Eleni Foureira, Foxy Lee & ARCADE – “Ectasy”

Eurovision 2018 silver medallist Eleni Foureira tore up the Madwalk 2024 Viva Glam Show by MAC alongside Greek singer Foxy Lee. There, they presented the new song “Ectasy,” which was co-written by music producer ARCADE. The song uses a sample of the 1991 hit “Así me gusta a mí” by Spanish singer Chimo Bayo, which topped the charts in many European countries, including Greece.

Cleo & Donatan – “Licho” & “Moje miejsce”

Cleo and Donatan, Poland’s Eurovision 2014 representatives, have two new songs for us this week. Both tracks fuse in Polish folk elements, but each certainly has a very different aura.

The first, titled “Licho” (“Devil”), sees Cleo’s alter ego, Runa, taking over. It provides a darker twist on the pair’s music, with an ancient forest theme in the accompanying music video. The song also sees additional support from rapper Bonson.

Their second offering, “Moje miejsce” (“My place”), is a brighter one, filled with love. Lyrically, Cleo sings about how her place won’t feel like home unless her loved one is with her: “So many dreams about you, so many tears / This is my home, this is my home, my heart / Because without you there is no part of me.”

Amaia – “Tengo Un Pensamiento”

Fans of Amaia have lots to look forward to in the new year. Spain’s Eurovision 2018 singer has revealed her new album will arrive on 31 January. Before then, the star has shared “Tengo Un Pensamiento” (“I Have A Thought”). A dreamy pop ballad, the song has the ability to make the listener feel like they’re floating amongst the clouds. This is a feeling that Amaia shares now she realises that she’s found a special person: “I have a feeling / That doesn’t leave me alone / But since I met you […] This thought / Became very small and exploded / And it became this whole song / And today I feel that it’s happening / The day I realise / That I want to be with you all my life.”

Hungary’s byealex és a slepp conclude the year with the new single “baj” (“trouble”). The song exudes the band’s typical indie-rock style, but it also features a gospel/soul twist at the end courtesy of a backing choir. The lyrics tackle the difficult subject of drug abuse and the harm this can cause people, with the Eurovision 2013 act singing: “I was alone and you didn’t see it / As the night descended, always with a different girl / I chased the dawn, I enjoyed that there was trouble / The trouble is that trouble still finds me.”

A new year heralds in a new beginning. Both two-time Eurovision entrant Danijela Martinović and fellow Croatian singer Gabi Novak are long-term members of the Croatian music industry; but, they still know that starting afresh can be a great way of cleansing the soul, regardless of whatever age you might be. Their duet, “Početak” (“Beginning”), has a classic feel to it, with the pair accompanied by a jazz band and pianist Matija Dedić.

Subwoolfer – “Dance Moves Should Be Bigger”

Subwoolfer are ending the year with a bang and one big party. The intergalactic yellow wolves, who represented Norway at Eurovision 2022, want to keep us grooving with “Dance Moves Should Be Bigger.” The song features the full family — Keith, Jim, DJ Astronaut and Luna Ferrari. One for your New Year’s Eve party playlist.

Chris Harms – “I Love You”

Fans will primarily know Chris Harms for his rock and metal vocals as part of German band Lord Of The Lost. However, the Eurovision 2023 alum is now showcasing another side to his musical style for his debut solo offering. Taking inspiration from the retro synth-pop era, Harms is building towards an LP titled 1980, set for release at the end of January next year. The pre-release single, “I Love You,” gives us an insight of what to expect. Lyrically, Harms recounts how he was too late in saying those three important words: “I said, ‘I love you’ at thе gravesite / With a sense of loss I can’t replace / I’d give the world for anther try / She’ll never be here to tell / This should have been us / This could have been us / This would have been us, but / Now, it’s too late.”

Kati Wolf – “Szívcsend”

How does someone who is lonely or heartbroken wait for Christmas? That’s the question Kati Wolf poses with her new single. “Szívcsend” (“Silent Heart”) is a gentle and stripped-back song that features simple acoustic guitar melodies. Hungary’s Eurovision 2011 act sings of going into hibernation for the season: “Just silence, just me / Only inside, just my heart is reborn / Hiding in the mud”

Jalisse – “No No No No!”

There’s one word at the forefront of Jalisse’s mind: “No No No No!” The Italian duo, who sang at Eurovision 1997, have shared their final single of the year. It’s a steady pop track with a general retro vibe from the pair’s heyday.

Severina – “TAKO TI JE, SINE MOJ”

“That’s how it is, my son / When a piddling scum grabs the power / And teaches the others what honour is / That one doesn’t know what shame is […] While they shoot, son, you stand tall / Oh, you stand tall.”

Severina’s new song is a powerful call for all those who have been left in the dust by people of power. Croatia’s Eurovision 2006 star encourages them to stay strong and fight for their cause. Writing more about “TAKO TI JE, SINE MOJ” (“That’s How It Is, My Son”) on social media, Severina noted:

“This is for all the mothers who fight for their children, all the fathers who don’t know how to explain to their daughters why someone is bullying them at school. This is a song for our workers, for our pensioners who are barely making ends meet, for our teachers who are on strike, doctors, nurses who have difficult working conditions and low salaries. This is also for the veterans, this is a song for the brave students in Serbia who rebelled against the dictatorial regime, and were supported by Croatian students. This is a song that I wrote for everyone… For all the weak, the ashamed and the humiliated…”

Jala Brat & Buba Corelli – Goat Season: Final Chapter

For Eurovision 2016 participant Jala Brat, 2024 has been the season of the Goat (slang for “greatest of all time”). The Bosnian rapper has collaborated with Buba Corelli on a series of records this year, and now they are ending things on a high by presenting the final chapter of the trilogy. Mixing elements of trap and dancehall, this last instalment features eight songs, all of which come with their own music video.

Mihai Trăistariu & Cristian Harhata – “Eu Beau Necazul Meu”

Many of us will be enjoying a tipple over the festive season. For some it will be to enhance the merriness, whilst others will be aiming to drown their sorrows. Romania’s Mihai Trăistariu is trying to do the latter. The Eurovision 2006 alum has collaborated with Cristian Harhata for “Eu Beau Necazul Meu” (“I Drink My Trouble”), an upbeat folk song about anointing the throat: “I drink, my trouble / I forget about anger, with a glass like this always / I drink, my habit / No wonder, when I’m left in the lurch.”

Many a present will be given over the next few weeks. But, Csézy has an even more precious gift lined up for 2025 — the Hungarian singer is expecting a child. To honour this moment, the Eurovision 2008 alumna has released “Légy boldog nálam!” (“Be happy with me!”). A steady ballad, Csézy sings to her unborn daughter: “And if you really are among us, even the thought will make me close my heart! So come on!”

New festive music from Eurovision artists: Christmas 2024 | Part 3

You can look back at our earlier Christmas roundups here.

Miki Núñez is giving us a new take on a Christmas classic. “Bon Nadal (La guerra ha acabat)” is the Catalan version of “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” first released by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Spain’s Eurovision 2019 star is joined by the boys’ choir from Escolania de Montserrat.

Jill Jonson – “Mr New Year”

If you like a saxophone with your festive tunes, then Jill Johnson has the track for you. Sweden’s Eurovision 1998 representative is looking towards “Mr New Year” and hoping he can bring the opportunity for change and growth: “I’m so glad you came around / It’s like you knew dear / That we needed to be found / To break new ground / Without fear, no fear, no fear / You can do it, Mr New Year.” In a post on social media, Johnson explained more about the message behind her latest song:

“Mr New Year is a song that, without ducking the seriousness that prevails in the world, with war, unrest and environmental destruction, is about how we still want to believe and hope in the new year. Believe that Mr New Year can change the world, that together we can change the world.”

TVORCHI – “Щедрик, щедрик, щедрівочка

As many will now know, courtesy of Mariya Yaremchuk and Zlata Dziunka’s performance at Eurovision 2023, “Щедрик” is a classic Ukrainian New Year’s song. It is known all over the world as “Carol of the Bells.”

Two Eurovision alumni have covered the song this year — the first being 2023 act TVORCHI. They joined Tina Karol for the latest episode of her YouTube series Дім Звукозапису (Recording House), where Karol gives new life to Ukrainian songs that have been forgotten. The end result is “Щедрик, щедрик, щедрівочка,” where TVORCHI utilise their electronic style to produce an exciting new version of the song.

Ruslana – “Щедрик”

Eurovision 2004 winner Ruslana has also recorded a rendition of “Щедрик.” This one forms part of the new album Територія Різдва. Дух нескорених (Christmas Territory. The Spirit of the Unconquered). Ruslana brings in folk elements to her version, including a prominent trembita intro — just like her Eurovision song “Wild Dances.”

Timebelle – “Snow On Me”

Christmas is almost here, but Timebelle are still waiting for one very important element. Switzerland’s Eurovision 2017 group are holding out for their lover to join them by the fire and sit with them underneath the tree: “I don’t want to eat alone those Christmas sweets you like / Will you unwrap my milky body by the candlelight / I’m waiting for you, don’t want to be blue / I’m waiting for you / Oh, snow on me.”

Kurt Calleja – “Għal Kulħadd (Verżjoni Milied)”

Before he appears at MESC 2025, Kurt Calleja is taking time to spread some Christmas cheer. The Maltese singer previously released “Għal Kulħadd” (“For Everyone”) in October. But, he’s now laced the song with sleigh bells and dropped a Christmas version alongside a charming music video.

Boggie – Jingle Acoustic (Live)

Boggie doesn’t just have one festive tune for us, but an entire album. The Hungarian singer recently recorded an acoustic Christmas concert with 15 yuletide songs. It features both English and Hungarian-language offerings, including a rendition of her Eurovision 2015 song “Wars For Nothing.”
