One Morning Left has been making music for 16 years. And there’s one night in February they’re definitely looking forward to: February 8 and the grand final of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2025.
A Nordic metal band, they believe that their humour sets them apart from others in the genre. They describe themselves as a “hyperactive, boundary-pushing feel-good act.”
Given all that, it’s no wonder their music gets a rise out of people. And that applies to the UMK jury, too. Ahead of the song’s release, the jury said:
“It is impossible to listen to Puppy without a reaction. Modern metal and dance elements meet beautifully in the song. The song sounds angular and edgy, but at the same time it is full of joy and the chorus is really catchy. The three-minute song is loaded with different musical hooks. It is easy to imagine a sold-out Nokia Arena singing this song in February.”
One Morning Left – “Puppy”
The song was co-written with, among others, Johannes Naukkarinen — a.k.a., Kiro. He was one of the songwriters behind Käärijä’s “Cha Cha Cha.”
“We already talked to our previous drummer that UMK would be a great experience,” says Mika Lahti, one of the band’s vocalists. “When Kiro, who produced Käärijän’s Cha Cha Cha, came into the picture, we started discussing making a UMK song with him.”
The UMK song “Puppy” is — quite simply — about a puppy.
“We came up with the idea of a puppy, because everyone loves puppies and it could unite people in our polarized world. We were in the studio at ten in the morning and left around six in the evening. It was the fastest and most professional thing in the world.”

I love the chaos of this song . And it it describes exactly how I feel when I see a puppy . Thumbs up from me !
Screw what the fans say, this song will win for sure with the help of the televote and this song will receive a lot of votes like both Trenule?ul and Cha Cha Cha.
the song is not for me i find it annoying but if you like it good for you its just not for me
I feel like Finland these years send entries who basically are the biggest middle finger to the contest. Not sure if I like that, you can be edgy but don’t look down at the contest.
They send edgy entries just to be edgy. No wonder this is everybody’ s favourite
How is any song a middle finger for Eurovision? Every artist has their own style, just because it’s not radio-pop doesn’t mean it’s against Eurovision.
Belgium 1980 says hello
Telex style was ironic songs, so I wouldn’t count that as a example.
Finland can’t send anything “normal” 😀 I understand what you’re saying. And I agree, it’s starting to get annoying. They will try to do a Käärija every year until they succeed I guess.
Of course it had to be Swedes looking down on Finns
I usually like serious songs the best, but this one is Finland’s best choice so far
imo this song was made to polarise, because some people will hate it and others will love it because it’s weird. I’m a bit tired… I hope they pick another one, but after cha cha cha and No Rules, I doubt that will happen.
I love this genre of music. I don’t like this song within it.
Disturbing
This is a Eurovision song! What an absolute banger 🙂
Aren’t people tired of novelty, Mickey mousse songs with no depth and everyone forgets after the contest? This songs and following trends are destroying the credibility of the contest
I wish this was in Finnish so so I could ignore the lyrics and only enjoy the awesome music.
The lyrics are awesome tho?? Like, Puppy puppy puppy puppy am I Right? 😀 ??
I enjoy it but I’m not sure I want it in Eurovision. At some point it’s not interesting anymore… it’s just noise for the pleasure of making noise. I wouldn’t be mad if it were to win UMK, I think the live performance can be very funny. I just don’t want Finland to become that country that only sends “joke acts”. I know it may not be a joke for the group itself but it kinda feels like one.
75% public vote winner alert!!!
This is my favourite song of those released so far. Definitely reminds me of Electric Callboy, combining techno with metalcore.
Could this win UMK, absolutely, will it make the left hand side of the scoreboard at ESC, sadly not a chance.
finally a good song!
Someone inject this song into my veins.
This song is like the metalcore version of Who Let The Dogs Out: criticizing simp culture among men and advocating for true love between partners.
Except Puppy executes it terribly.
Borderline unlistenable.
I think it’s mostly disturbing. But I understand what they were trying to go for here I think. Screaming the word “puppy” is not what you normally do when you say that word. It gets your attention. But to me it’s a bit disturbing. Others might find it funny..
“Puppy” is just 2015 “Aina Mun Pitää” and 2023’s “Cha Cha Cha’s” love child LOL
Please don’t mix these with ChaCha.
It’s crazy it’s party it’s something only Finland can bring!
I wasn’t sure what to expect from the title when this track was announced, but wow—it’s crazy, engaging, and quirky, without feeling cringe-worthy. I can definitely see people vibing to this in May!
That being said, my favorite so far is Viivi
My least favorite from UMK25 so far.
I love metal, techno and so many of the components they have here. But let’s be real, the end results is absolutely terrible. I just think it’s annoying, it’s as if they thought of all the things that would give it the stereotypical controversial-televeote-hit-0pointsfromjuries appeal. I wasn’t a fan of W95 but at least it was somewhat entertaining. Fingers crossed for the two remaining songs. Knowing what we tend to vote for, this will probably pick up a dangerous ampunt of televote points at UMK. And as we saw last year, the international juries can do nothing to stop televote… Read more »
OMG !!!! Finally UMK!!!! Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes !!!!!! It’s crazy – IT’S PARTY!!!!! This is crazy madness! The production of this song is so good – despite being metal, so melodic. And the dance elements are so well executed! This sound like an obvious winner and a perfect Eurovision entry! People will go mad in the arena. And who doesn’t love a puppy?!?! The lyrics, despite obviously childish, are 100% relatable to almost every single person listening to this song. The music video is 100% for sure the best of all songs I have seen… Read more »
i agree!!!
It won’t be to everyone’s taste but I like it. It’s fun, it’s chaotic and memorable. However, if it wins, it’s likely to go the same way as WindowsMan. Juries would kill it
And ‘Mama SC!’
Polarizing entries tend to do better at the contest
Do they though? The results are all over the place.
*Windows95 Man finished 19th.
*5 Miinust X Puuluup managed 20th.
*Let 3 managed 13th
*Hatari managed 9th.
Kaarija & Baby Lasagna finished top 5 because they were pretty similar, had charisma, had a great chord and melody structure, were charming and a little quirky.
This song doesn’t have the charm, the charisma or a decipherable melody and likely won’t translate like ‘Cha Cha Cha’ or ‘Rim Tim Tagi Dim’ did to the casual Eurovision viewer/families that tune in to the show.
That’s why I said “tend.” And also, polarizing ? novelty song
Okay, so this will probably win if last year is anything to go by. Silly gimmick songs seem to do well. I don’t hate it. The cute little double woof woofs are enough to almost win me over. Erika’s biggest threat?
I think we found our winner for UMK. The televote’s gonna eat this up XD
Not so sure about that.
Not any more than Win95man!
It’s time for Finland to surprise people and send something completely different. This would be the 3rd year of sending something ‘zany’, ‘comedic’ and ‘chaotic’. At this rate Finland is going to pigeon-hole itsself as the joke act, when in actual fact they have a superb music industry with a wide breadth of talent. For me, this song is just a pointless wall of sound that relies heavily on its silliness and its shock value. Its trying its best to appeal to the audience that loved ‘Cha Cha Cha’, but lightning rarely strikes twice. Finland went with ‘No Rules’ last… Read more »
That was meant to be Mama Š?! Don’t know what happened there!
I am sorry but I don’t like this song
Creatively bankrupt meme song for Cha Cha Cha fanboys to lap up
As a Cha Cha Cha fanboy and a metalcorr enjoyer, Puppy is my least favorite entrynof UMK 2025 so far.
Amen to that
Lol! I was waiting for the song in UMK that will be totally “in your face,” and it’s this one I guess.
It’s a lot! I was exhausting like the guys at the end of the music video watching this! It’s like a mix between Kaarija, Windows95 and Blind Chanel, musically and visually I don’t know how to explain it but It’s what I felt. The lyrics are something lol! I don’t know if it’s the right option for Finland but it stands out from the first 4 songs for sure.
I think it fits perfectly: WTF: Welcome To Finland 😉
This is memorable. I imagine the live performance will be something to behold as well. I expect this to do very well.
Maybe it’s because I’ve been listening to Electric Callboy for the past 2 months (Pump It, We Got The Moves and Ratatata to be precise), but I am insanely underwhelmed by this metalcore song.
It’s going to be top two at UMK, isn’t it? And they’ll put it on last, like they did with Portion Boys and Windows 95 Man.
Wouldn’t be mad if the song lives up to its preferential treatment
Just to be clear, I hadn’t heard the song when I made the comment and myself I liked it but I get the mixed reviews
