She describes herself as an ordinary girl from North Karelia. But Goldielocks — real name Ella Mäntynen — has always dreamed big. So much so that her stage name actually refers to her alter ego, who she describes as a “rock star inside the shell of a pop star.” Based in Berlin, she’s helped create music for Finnish stars including Gasellit, Isac Elliot, ABREU, and Sara Siipola. But UMK is all about her.

According to the UMK 2025 jury, good things will flow from her entry:

“Goldielocks’ cool and original singing voice gives the song a unique touch. Made Of has a bunch of catchy international-level pop hooks, strong lyrics, good danceability and a bit of production-based alt-pop roughness and individuality. Goldielocks performed on the main stage at Flow Festival last summer and showed that she is ready for grand stages. This song will be her biggest yet, working flawlessly on the dancefloor, streams, and radio.”

Goldielocks – Made Of

Goldielocks’ song was born in Berlin, where her brother Lauri Mäntynen also lives. In fact, Lauri is also the executive producer of the entire project.

“I moved to Berlin and started from scratch, and no one there knew who I was. Now I’m in rooms where other writers might have several Billboard hits and sessions for Dua Lipa on their CV.”

“I hope to win a Grammy one day and have my own Billboard number one. Right now, though, my first crazy dream is Eurovision.”

So what about her UMK 2025 song? Well it’s a reflection of herself — and indeed others.

“I’ve met a few people I can’t say whether I love or hate them. This certainly applies to myself. I can definitely be the hero in someone’s story and the villain in someone else’s. The message of the song is that be who you are, as long as you are yourself, nothing is that serious.”

The full release schedule is as follows:

  • Thursday 9th: Neea River – “Nightmares”
  • Friday 10th: Nelli Matula – “Hitaammin hautaan”
  • Monday 13th: Costee – “Sekaisin”
  • Tuesday 14th: Viivi – “Aina”
  • Wednesday 15th: One Morning Left – “Puppy”
  • Thursday 16th: Goldielocks – “Made of”
  • Friday 17th: Erika Vikman – “Ich komme”

Songs will be released at 00:00 EET each day (22:00 GMT / 23:00 CET the prior evening).

UMK 2025 will take place on Saturday 8 February, starting at 20:00 CET / 21:00 EET. The show will be held inside Nokia Arena in Tampere. Hosts Sanni and Jasmin Beloued will guide viewers through proceedings.

The winner should be either this or then Puppy!
Both great in their own way.

Great song from Goldielocks, very current. I Say No to Puppy this year it, ‘s too much of this style over the last few years and we saw it all with Baby Lasagna last year. We need a good pop song and stuff which is current and different. Bring on some indie.

All we need is Erica Vikmam’s song and the UMK 2025 lineup is complete.

IMO based on the music video there’s either a story about trying to break free from an add iction and traf ficking situation and loss of in nocence and identity, or just a bunch of elements randomly thrown together including that mega zipper and choreo, and the angel element and all, which could maybe accidentally point out to the aforementioned situation. There’s more than an option for a music video for this song so this is intriguing. The song is very good tho.

I mean, this year seems like its Erika’s for the taking unless Puppy wins Finland over.
This feels like an overall downgrade over last year, but as Loreen proved–you can have a bad national final year, but if you have ONE killer song/performance–that’s all you need to win ESC.

I don’t feel this as a downgrade, I didn’t even get that Wow moment from Swizerland last year, but with the live performance it finally came.

I’m not a huge fan of this song, but I think it’s catchy enough to do well, however after cha cha cha and no rules, I think I know which song it’s going to be for Finland and it’s not this one, but maybe Erika can cause a miracle.

Good contemporary pop song, a bit reminiscent of the style of Tones And I. Though it is very radio friendly, it lacks that catchy hook that is needed for a Eurovision song. Video is great once again though. UMK is amazing at this!

The video and attitude are great. So far (without Erika Vikman) it;s my favourite. If they can use elements of the video on stage, it will be perfect (given she can sing live, her voice is unique). 5/5

So this isn’t my preferred type of music, but I like it.
She has a lovely voice and I really enjoyed the concept of the video. Conceptually the music video reminds me so much of ‘I wrote a song’ by Mae Muller.

Honestly though, after the first two listens, it falls in to 4th place out of the 6 songs so far for me, with a possibility of it moving up the rank slightly.

Love the guitar rift in this song. UMK another good pop song. Each one a stand alone hit i think outside of the Eurovision bubble. With one to go i think this is my new favorite. Again i must credit UMK in this approach of one every 24 hours rather than a complete glut of releases by other nations which i sometimes feel is overwhelming. Go Finland.

Well, there aren’t many songs to choose from.. so they can do it this way.

Milla’s constant backhanded compliments are making her looking a little bit, shall we say in her way?

“Nice, you know for a Swede..”

Well not much, I guess. I loved Cicciolina back then but her live performance was awkward, her vocals were bad.

According to Goldielocks; “The lyrics can be seen as interpretation of yourself or someone else, mainly be what you are and who you are, but most importantly be yourself – nothing has to be serious”

People seem to forget something about UMK, sure it’s a competition to find the Finnish representative for Eurovision but it’s also a contest to showcase all the different talents and music styles that Finland has to offer, so not every songs has to be Eurovision coded, or has to be over competitive, all these artists want to showcase their own music, and are not trying to be. UMK is a National Final but it’s also a way to promote all these artists and their own music. I know the Eurofans are searching for the most competitive song, the most Eurovision… Read more »

That’s not what UMK is. Finland wants to win Eurovision, and UMK is a national final to find the most competitive Eurovision act.

It’s a Finnish music’s showcase too, the artists taking part know that they will be in the Finnish charts and sell their music thanks to UMK.
I never said Finland didn’t want to win Eurovision and that UMK wasn’t a National Final.

I don’t agree, UMK does huge audiences in Finland, and the artists sell their music and do the charts thanks to UMK they win it or not.

Melodifestivalen works that way to, probobly even more. It’s a nice first step and a great way to expose new artists. But there will aways be those who think beyond Melodifestivalen and wants to win eurovision as well.

Exactly, Melfest, San Remo, work the same, it showcases music and local talents while being the way to select the Eurovision entry.

Karl

No. In Sanremo, Eurovision is an afterthought and there have even been Sanremo winners who refused to participate in Eurovision.
In UMK, Melfest, practically all other national finals except FiK, the main goal is to select an artist for Eurovision.

Meh. It’s pretty mild and inoffensive. Not strong enough. What happened to UMK? It used to have really great songs.

This song falls flat and will probably battle for the last place with Costee in the UMK final. Its not a bad song though, just not a good competition song.

Agreed. For me they’re my bottom two songs.

One goes nowhere vocally or musically.
The other is just a pointless racket that’s trying too hard to recreate something from two years ago.
