Ireland is still smiling after an incredible sixth-place finish in Malmö. And now producers of Eurosong 2025 — the country’s national selection for Eurovision — are hoping to climb even higher.

The six Eurosong finalists will compete on February 7th on The Late Late Eurosong Special to determine who will go on to represent Ireland at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest in Basel. And the first artist has now been revealed: Bobbi Arlo.

You’ll have to wait a little longer to hear her song “Powerplay”. Tune into The Ray D’Arcy Show on RTÉ Radio 1 from 15:00 Dublin time today to hear her first interview and the very first play of her song.

Five further hopefuls will be unveiled on Ray’s show each afternoon this week, with listeners getting to hear each entry for the first time.

Bobbi Arlo will sing “Powerplay” in Ireland’s Eurosong 2025

According to Irish broadcaster RTE, Bobbi is one to watch.

“Bobbi Arlo’s sound is vibrant and enigmatic, drawing inspiration from artists like Shygirl and Sega Bodega, blending club-ready beats with deeply personal, soul-baring lyrics. In a short time, she has captured the attention of the Irish music scene, earning notable support from streaming platforms and even a place on Irish sensation Niall Horan’s personal playlist. Her songwriting is unique and passionate, with her anthemic track “Feel It” which was nominated for Song of the Year at the prestigious RTÉ Choice Music Awards.”

“Beyond this, Bobbi has sold-out shows in Dublin, received widespread airplay, and graced the stage at key festivals, including Spain’s Primavera. In 2024, her rising prominence was further cemented when she was named Gay Times & Coca-Cola Artist of the Year. This honour led to performances at numerous festivals across the UK and Ireland, solidifying her place as one of the most exciting emerging artists in the scene.”

Are you excited about Bobbi Arlo? Do you think she has the voice and the skills to take Ireland to the final? Let us know down below….

Bambie Thug was truly an unexpected pioneer for Ireland, they started the Irish renaissance at Eurovision.

Bobbi’s entry is incredible, it would guarantee them a spot in the final. I’m incredibly excited to hear the rest of the songs. Is Ireland’s Eurosong the new UMK?

Edgy, modern, dark vibes… Great staging potential…This will definitely stand out.. loving the vibe change by Ireland… Great first song.

If this was to be the entry I would absolutely 200% support it.
Easily the best Ireland have sent for decades although that bar is very low. Maybe it is because I have fondness for electro music but this brings something new for Ireland . I like the fast aggresive tempo of it but it still comes off as very warm. And the structure is very unusual too..

If the rest of the songs are this good then Ireland is back. And to think, just two years ago they gave us that tragic boy band mess!

I like it on first listen, but it doesn’t quite knock me out. First impressions are important, and I don’t think this is as strong as Doomsday Blue. Still a great start.

Very confident start from Ireland, I am loving the drama and intensity in the baseline.

This is looking very promising.

This one reminds me a bit of Hatari song.
Not the usual structure for a song, it’s special, interesting start for Ireland Eurosong.

God irelands first song is a dogs dinner – if you want a migraine put it on – utter garbage- I suspect RTE think it is as well that’s why it’s song no 1 lol

Song number 1 is usually a pretty strong opener, but rarely the winning song as the more polarising/louder ones are saved till later.

Not sure why you’d be so aggressively dismissive about a song and call if ‘migraine inducing’ when Bambie Thug’s song was much louder and raucous. It still got Ireland there first top 10 finish in years.

This is a decent start to Irelands bid for Eurovision success, but im sure there are better songs to come.

It’s a banger! Electro powerpop for the win! Great song and great heavy production on the track! It feels like being in the same vein as Bambie Thug, though lighter still, as there is no metal in this one.

While “Doomsday Blue” was a full on ventricular fibrillation and almost a matter of life and death, “Powerplay” is a ventricular tachycardia – steady fast pacing but still has that heavy dark feel to it and a bit more life assuring.

Great start to Eurosong 2025!

Lyra – Love Me
Tara McDonald – Make It Rain
ADGY – Run Into The Night
Nicole O’Brien – Love Me Louder
And a 6th artist which is unknown at the moment.

People can think whatever they want of Bambie’s song last year, they placed well and it is all that matters. The performance was great and it payed with both juries and public.
For this year I don’t want something similar to Doomsday Blue but I hope Ireland will continue on the path of audacity.

Just heard the full track on RTE… It’s great… Nothing ESC about it… Just a great track. It’s kind of a reverse if a typical song in that it’s 90% high tempo chorus and 10% lower tempo. Bobbi presents as very genuine, and another ADHD creative (like The Bambie themselves). It’s definitely my cup of music… Layered, processed yet coherent.

Oh. Bobbi is quite an androgynous name.

Anyway, no, it is not a typo. “Themselves” is correct. Don’t overthink it.

Themselves is unnecessarily wrong, since it is most definitely plural, and there exists a convenient singular form (themself). That is, unless you wish to honour a person’s right to feeling that they are actually several people.
