Following a hiatus of more than three decades, Luxembourg returned to Eurovision last year. Tali flew the Luxembourgish flag in Malmö, taking the country through to the final. Tonight, the Luxembourg Song Contest 2025 takes place to determine the country’s second act of the 21st century. The five-time winners of the contest have put together a selection consisting of seven songs competing to represent them in Basel.

The Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — have come together to listen to the competing entries ahead of the contest and determine their favourites. Our readers chose Laura Thorn as their resounding favourite in our poll, but did the Wiwi Jury agree? Read on to find out.

1. Laura Thorn – “La poupée monte le son”

This yé-yé throwback is incredible! Laura Thorn is bringing the sixties and seventies back in style with this punchy, entertaining number that evokes the time where France Gall dominated the contest. If done well, this has a chance to storm up the ranks and bring Luxembourg a very respectable placement for the second time in a row.

2. Luzac – “Je danse”
3. Rafa Ela – “No Thank You”
4. Zero Point Five – “Ride”
5. One Last Time – “Gambler’s Song”

1. Rafa Ela – “No Thank You”

“No Thank You” is flawless pop. It is sassy, it is loud and it is dynamic. Rafa Ela is a great performer and the song complements her really well. The beat throughout the chorus is infectious, leading into a brilliant instrumental break which has plenty of staging potential. While the song doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it is empowering, it is bold and could be a big moment on the Eurovision stage. Let’s hope they get the choreography right and this should be good to go straight to Basel.

2. Luzac – “Je danse”
3. Laura Thorn – “La poupée monte le son”
4. Zero Point Five – “Ride”
5. Mäna – “Human Eyes”

1. Laura Thorn – “La poupée monte le son”

After a splendid national selection held last year, I was hoping Luxembourg will continue with the extravaganza — and they did! Laura stands out from the rest with what seems to be her own modern take on previous Luxembourgish Eurovision entries. The song breathes Eurovision and Laura’s quirky and sweet appearance gives it a special touch. There is a lot she can do staging-wise and I just can’t wait for the final.

2. Rafa Ela – “No Thank You”
3. One Last Time – “Gambler’s Song”
4. Zero Point Five – “Ride”
5. Luzac – “Je danse”

1. Rhythmic Soulwave – “Stronger”

Luxembourg offers a strong lineup this year, but this track stands out with its fresh blend of jazzy and soulful sounds. The powerful, dynamic vocals are complemented by a mysterious and dramatic atmosphere, leaving plenty of room for creative staging. The song carries a subtle dark undertone that could translate into a captivating, cinematic performance.

3. Luzac – “Je danse”
4. Rafa Ela – “No Thank You”
5. One Last Time – “Gambler’s Song”

What a way to celebrate the first pop song to win Eurovision 60 years ago. Fitting tribute to France Gall intentionally or not. Sometimes you have to glance back to see a way forward! One to watch i think.

La Poupée Monte le Son is a 2.0 version of France Gall’s Poupée de cire , Poupée de Son, musically and also lyrically . The difference lies in the message of self- empowerment. As a French native speaker I think the lyrics cleverly enable Laura to deliver a contemporary message to women but also to anyone who should speak up or call the shots in a world where relationships have changed since 1965, when France Gall won for Luxembourg. My only regret is that there are moments in the song that sound Junior ESC to me, but that doesn’t prevent… Read more »

I can’t get behind Laura’s song. I think Stronger and Je Danse are both stronger entries. I personally feel Laura will result in an NQ. I want Luxembourg to stay in the contest and I fear an NQ this early on in their return could result in a withdrawal. Time shall tell

luzac is the best option, but does he have the sass to pull it off live… the song requires a confident performance from him
