Sanremo, the storied Italian music festival, has endured several controversial moments over the decades, and it seems 2025 will be no exception. Emis Killa has officially withdrawn from this year’s edition of Sanremo.
Emis, one of the selected Big Artists set to compete in Sanremo 2025, has revealed that, due to ongoing legal issues, he has decided to drop out of the contest, bringing the official competitor list down to 29.
In an Instagram post, the rapper explained his situation:
“I learned today from the newspapers that I am under investigation (I was only notified of the DASPO, which is an administrative and not criminal act) and if this is true it will be important that the investigation takes its course and that the judiciary can work calmly without controversy or pressure and media circuses.”
“After 15 years of career, I was happy to face my first Sanremo. I thank Carlo Conti for wanting me, but I prefer to take a step back and not participate.”
“I trust that everything will be resolved as soon as possible, for the best, and I hope to be able to face a Festival in the future where music is central, to be able to bring my song, talk only about that and have fun, as it should have been this year and as it should be for all the Artists who decide to get involved and participate in the competition.”
He was confirmed to be debating if partaking part in Sanremo or not once he became aware of said legal issues, with the decision to leave Sanremo being confirmed later. Emis Killa was due to compete with the song “Demoni”, as well as make his debut in the emblematic Italian competition.

RAI and Sanremo’s artistic director Carlo Conti has confirmed that Emis Killa would not be replaced in the lineup.
Since 2015, the winner of the big artists section in Sanremo, the main portion of the contest, had the right to become the representative of that year’s Eurovision Song Contest, which all but 2016 winners Stadio has accepted.
he is good looking: what a waste
What are the legal issues?
Not a huge deal. He can come back. I hope things work out for him, and he gets fair due process.
