Finland’s Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu, UMK, has become one of the highest profile national finals of recent times. The competition to see who will keep the Finnish fortunes sky-high is happening soon — as in this Saturday — where their representative for the next Eurovision Song Contest will be crowned.

Following the song reveal, we asked you to shout out your favourites and tell us who should win UMK 2025.

After a whopping 4,651 votes, we have your winner!

Erika Vikman is a favourite to win UMK 2025

By an overwhelming result, Erika Vikman is your favourite act to take the Finnish flag to Basel. Erika cemented herself as a fan favourite after finishing second at the 2020 edition of UMK with her entry “Cicciolina”. She’s gone on to release numerous hits in Finland, including the chart topper “Ruoska” alongside Eurovision 2023 runner-up Käärijä.

Now, Erika is making her return to UMK, and you are loving the result. “Ich Komme” takes the top spot in our poll with a massive 40.44% of the total — that’s 1,881 votes.

In second place, we find “Made Of” by Goldielocks. The international-flavoured pop number has garnered plenty of support but was still a way behind Erika in this poll. Goldielocks earned 650 votes, which is 13.98% of the total.

Third place goes to the only ballad in the line-up — the ethereal “Aina” by Viivi. You have given it the bronze medal, with 10.56% of the total, or 491 votes.

Poll results: Who should win UMK 2025 in Finland?

Note: The poll was established before the exclusion of One Morning Left.

  1. Erika Vikman – “Ich komme” – 40.44% (1,881 votes)
  2. Goldielocks – “Made of” – 13.98% (650 votes)
  3. Viivi – “Aina” – 10.56% (491 votes)
  4. Neea River – “Nightmares” – 9.85% (458 votes)
  5. Nelli Matula – “Hitaammin hautaan” – 9.83% (457 votes)
  6. One Morning Left – “Puppy” – 9.48% (441 votes)
  7. Costee – “Sekaisin” – 5.86% (273 votes)

What do you think? Would Erika Vikman be the best choice from UMK 2025? Can Finland get to the Eurovision final for the fifth time in a row? Let us know in the comments below!

Super excited for Finland this year. Ich Komme is my absolute favorite and may potentially be my favorite at Eurovision if it wins UMK. I started watching Eurovision in 2019 and I never liked a Finnish entry. That will certainly change this year if Erika komme to ESC.

Please Finland don’t mess this up. Ich Komme is a fantastic song that easily gives you the best shot at not only a top ten but winning.

My fingers are crossed for Viivi, but hey, what an entry we’ll have from Finland, no matter what they choose

And if she doesn’t win (though I think she will) the fandom will implode. That would fun to watch.

It already did in 2020 when Erika didn’t win. Back then I didn’t care for her song. However, I really like Ich Komme and I think it’s a much more powerful entry than in 2020. Erika is komme to ESC!

Erika’s short rehearsal clip looks very powerfull and striking. This song really works with rock staging too since it has rock elements. Good balance between sensuality (but not too much) and some rock rawness coud really work well for this song, the music video kind of thing would not be possible for live performance anyway. The staging looks quite simple, but sometimes simple is just the best if done perfectly. And there are probably some suprises for every staging that they avoid revealing untill the show. Other songs seems to have somewhat potentially nice stagings too, i think Costee could… Read more »

UMK is my favourite national final this year. Highest quality across all the songs for sure.

Sadly it’s nowhere near as good as Cicciolina

Indeed, Ich Komme is a 9.5/10 while Cicciolina is a 5/10.

I disagree. I remember not caring for Cicciolina much in 2020. I liked Aksel’s song. However, I really like Ich Komme much more than the rest. Ich Komme will give Erika a better result in UMK and ESC than Cicciolina could ever do.

I listened to the song a couple of times now, but unfortunately it doesn’t grow on me. Genuine question (no hate) Is she like a Finnish Madonna?

I suppose yes, Madonna sparks controversy with her music and performances and so does Erika.

Everyone has different tastes in music. There’s nothing wrong with you disliking what most people like. I didn’t like Kaarija’s Eurovision entry even though most people liked it. Regarding Ich Komme, it is my favorite from UMK. When I first listened to it I wasn’t sure what to think. I was more focused on the video than the song. However, over time I just listened to the music without watching the video and it has grown on me a lot.

Viivi and Nelli Matula seem more popular among Finnish people if we’re only looking at Spotify. The odds are saying 61 percent winning chance for Erika but in my opinion it’s definitely not that clear.

Spotify is largely used by younger people, so it doesn’t tell the whole story always. Youtube might be more reliable, as it attracts a wider spectrum, but for example: Erika Vikman’s video is shadowbanned and it affects the views.

And of course the videos are available on Yle Areena, which could be a good indicator as well, as how much they’ve gotten plays there.

I agree with you, but it still makes me wonder if Erika will really win by a landslide like some people are suggesting.

Might not be a landslide, as the other songs are also competitive and can gather votes very well.

I don’t necessarily agree, Spotify tends to be a much better indicator than YouTube, because you might only be interested in the video but not really in the song itself. And Spotify is, especially in the Scandinavian countries, a mainstream thing, everyone is using it, from young to old.
But let’s see what tomorrow brings. I could basically live with every winner except for Costee.

I’ll add here Spotify streams of UMK24 songs from one week as a example: Spotify Top 200 -weeklist 26.1.–1.2. #4 Sara Siipola (508 201 streams) #13 Mikael Gabriel x nublu (335 446) #17 Sexmane (298 273) #46 Sini Sabotage (160 590) #51 Cyan Kicks (127 512) #63 Windows95Man (112 929) #71 Jesse Markin (105 098) Now UMK24 results were: 1. Windows95Man 2. Sara Siipola 3. Mikael Gabriel x nublu 4. Cyan Kicks 5. Jesse Markin 6. Sexmane 7. Sini Sabotage So the Spotify listens didn’t really come as one with the end results, the live performance of course can shift… Read more »

I actually like them all – Eurovision in mind only Costee wouldn’t be my choice. On others it’s green light, as these are all well made songs that will reach people’s attention in Basel.

For UMK, I’m really looking forward to enjoying the show. We can relax, because the competition is pretty much over already. (Erika is coming.) Ironically, I like all 5 other songs left in this show, and I wish we could take them all to Eurovision, but that’s not how it works. They’re all great songs, so I look forward to enjoying the show.

One of the many eurofan favourites over the years destined to flop when it comes into contact with your average Joe. I don’t hate it, but I don’t see an option for Finland that could get them top 5. But I think Aina has the highest ceiling. So long as it gets past the semi, I think it could do a Bridges and get top 5 with the juries and sneak an overall top 10. I think the Finnish fans would take that.
