It’s coming! Finland is set to choose its representative for Eurovision 2025. Their national selection — UMK 2025 — will take place on Saturday 8 February. Six acts are vying for the honour of representing the country on the Eurovision stage in Basel.

Finland will perform in the second half of the second semi-final in Basel. The Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — has come together to listen to the six potential entries. Did the Wiwi Jury find the perfect climax for the second semi-final in May? Read on to find out.

Pablo

1. Erika Vikman – “Ich komme”

There’s just so much wrong with this entry… but they are wrongs that could be so right. “Ich komme” is a tour de force on matters of sexuality and boldness in a most unhinged but hypnotising package. All with what is likely one of the most bewilderingly perplexing endings I’ve ever heard in a song. If Erika answers the questions this song generates right, this could become something dangerous.

2. Goldielocks – “Made Of”
3. Nelli Matula – “Hitaammin hautaan”
4. Viivi – “Aina”
5. Costee – “Sekaisin”
6. Neea River – “Nightmares”

1. Goldielocks – “Made Of”

At UMK, it was one of those rare moments when, from the first time I heard the song, I said to myself, “This is the one.” The song itself is a pop track with great radio potential, but it has a retro-funky twist that makes it stand out, much like Goldielocks’ voice. As for the lyrics, I find them quite interesting, offering multiple interpretations. On one hand, they explore the relationship you have with yourself, particularly during moments when you’re unsure about how you feel but still want to prove “what you’re made of” (your true self). On the other hand, they also reflect our interactions with others, as every person we encounter has both positive and negative qualities. It’s a clever, funky and catchy song that I could definitely see in the top positions at Eurovision.

2. Viivi – “Aina”
3. Erika Vikman – “Ich komme”
4. Nelli Matula – “Hitaammin hautaan”
5. Neea River – “Nightmares”
6. Costee – “Sekaisin”

1. Erika Vikman – “Ich komme”

The performance of “Cicciolina” was three of the best minutes of my life and “Ich komme” is likely to follow suit. While “Ich komme” lacks the instantly memorable hook of “Cicciolina”, it makes up for it with layers of dynamism, giving us a sticky feeling which may have something to do with Erika’s attempt to revitalise the Finnish honey production industry. I am not convinced by the abrupt ending of the song, though I love that it fittingly builds up to a climax. Having said that, the ending lends itself to plenty of staging potential and if Erika can deliver visually as much as she has delivered musically, this is headed straight to Basel.

2. Neea River – “Nightmares”
3. Goldielocks – “Made Of”
4. Nelli Matula – “Hitaammin hautaan”
5. Viivi – “Aina”
6. Costee – “Sekaisin”

1. Goldielocks – “Made Of”

“Made Of” is a pleasant, straightforward pop song with a clean and simple composition. However, beneath its simplicity, I can sense something deeper that continues to grow on me with each listen. The melody has a charm that becomes more engaging over time, and the vocals stand out with their smooth, expressive quality.

2. Nelli Matula – “Hitaammin hautaan”
3. Erika Vikman – “Ich komme”
4. Costee – “Sekaisin”
5. Viivi – “Aina”
6. Neea River – “Nightmares”

1. Erika Vikman – “Ich komme”

Erika Vikman explodes onto the Finnish stage like a cheeky firecracker, leaving no doubt that she’s here to shake up Eurovision 2025 in the best way she knows how to — completely fraught with sexual innuendo. With strong, chanting beats as bold as her attitude and lyrics that playfully push all the right buttons, this track is a sassy tour de force. The last 20 seconds of the song is a crescendo like none previously ever heard on a Eurovision stage, and the song itself screams as the opening track from an up-and-coming Vikman album. If you’re ready for a performance that struts as hard as it slays, get ready — Erika’s coming to claim her honey soaked crown!

2. Neea River – “Nightmares”
3. Goldielocks – “Made Of”
4. Nelli Matula – “Hitaammin hautaan”
5. Costee – “Sekaisin”
6. Viivi – “Aina”

1. Erika Vikman – “Ich komme”

Stunned, slightly confused but most of all thrilled! I feel like I am in a trance and have joined an underground S&M dungeon cult listening to “Ich komme”. On stage will truly make or break this song. Clearly the kitchen sink will be thrown at it but as long as Erika doesn’t go too far for the song to simply, just become kitsch. It’s big, it’s powerful, it’s sexy and it’s captivating as hell! This, performed well, could make top 5 at Eurovision.

2. Neea River – “Nightmares”
3. Viivi – “Aina”
4. Goldielocks – “Made Of”
5. Costee – “Sekaisin”
6. Nelli Matula – “Hitaammin hautaan”

Any of this year’s entries (except for maybe Sekaisin) is definitely a worthy representative for Finland, all of them have their own edge and I love that all are being appreciated by both the fandom and the public

That being said, I just realized that Viivi was criminally underrated by the juries

Even though Erika didn’t try to be femme fatale, Cicciolina was much sexier and cute nasty and could transmit its message than oversexualised ich comme. pushing hard doesn’t bring quality everytime.

I’m really very fond of Aina. Likely very few ballads this year and this stands out. It also comes across as sweet and actually genuine. Many countries would kill to have this entry.

I love Hitaammin Hautaan but I know I’m in the minority on that one. I don’t mind if Erika or Goldilocks win.

I love it as well, and hey it’s doing numbers on Spotify so atleast it gets the attention it deserves.

Might be tomorrow’s dark horse imo. But whatever the outcome, I’m happy for Nelli as she’s finally got her breakthrough!

I feel like her breakthrough came already with Lemmikki, but after her break this is a good second breakthrough and follows her new style incredibly well.

My favorite is definitely “Made of”. It’s super fresh and has a really cool vibe. It would also be great if Finland would send something different this year than they usually do.

I just love Viivi’s Aina, I feel like it’s grossly underrated here. She’s so charming, and it’s a touching ballad that I think she’ll nail vocally. I don’t doubt Ich Komme will do well, but I get kind of disappointed that Eurovision songs can tend to the hyper-everything (sexual, loud, deep bass) to grab people’s attention… Goldilocks would also be a good palate cleanser from all the hard pop stuff.

Agreed about Viivi being underrated, but it was predictable. The Wiwi Jury rarely likes ballads.

Viivi being underrated is predictable. Not the song itself.

Ich Komme and Made Of are great songs that can do well in Eurovision. I find Nightmares and Hitaammin hautaan great too but I don’t see the same potential. I’m a bit scared of Neea’s vocals, there is a lot of voice modulation in the song.

Haven’t you heard Neeas short videos of live performances of Nightmares? There’s dozen of them. You shouldn’t worry at all. Person we need to worry about is Erika Vikman, ’cause she has limited vocal capabilities and she might ruin her performance with bad vocals especially at the end of song where she used huge help if autotunes.

I wouldn’t worry about Erika’s singing capability. She’s actually better and stronger voice than Nea. She doesn’t always use her voice fully in her songs, but she has all the capabilities for that, and is quite a gifted singer.

Hahaha i Like Erika a lot, but you have to be realistic, Erika can’t even hold a microphone for Neea when it comes to vocals. Cheers

I’m just wondering. Why isn’t Finland higher in the odds if the songs are ranked so high? Or is it just fans head over heals over UMK as usual. Personally I’m a bit tired of crazy acts from Finland. It’s become like a broken record.

Well there’s no humour act to send, so that broken record isn’t happening.

Erika isn’t crazy, just sexy and classy while at it (especially if we compare her with acts like Tokischa or Yeri Mua)

I imagine someone is paying the bookies. Belgium were 1st in the odds before we’d even heard the songs!

Yeah right.. I think it’s a lack of trust in Finland’s live performances? Great music videoes but to transfer it to the stage is not always easy.. Doing too much or too little, Just my thoughts.

…. The bookies don’t set the odds themselves – you must know that? The odds go up and down depending on how much money people are betting on someone to win – so if someone bet on Belgium to win their odds are going to go up, the bookmakers have no idea what the songs are

7th out of 37 while UMK has not yet happened, and they have not a former Esc winner in their lineup helping to be 1st in the odds so it’s already great for Finland!

Because of track record or whatever bs bookies say to justify Sweden being so disgustingly high on the odds every year
