Iceland begins its search for a Eurovision 2025 star this weekend, with the return of Söngvakeppnin.

Following the unveiling of this year’s competing songs in January, we asked you to vote for your favourites from the 10 competitors.

You let your voices be heard, casting just over 1,000 votes in total. And now, it’s time to reveal the results…

VÆB and Birgo are favourites to win Söngvakeppnin 2025

This poll turned into a two-horse race. But the act that just sneaked ahead and took the gold medal was VÆB.

The rap duo finished fourth in the grand final of Söngvakeppnin 2024. They’re now back to try and go all the way, and it seems that many are rooting for them to do just that.

VÆB’s upbeat folk-rap track, “RÓÁ,” picked up just under a third of all the votes cast — that equates to 328 votes specifically.

Only 20 votes behind in second place is Birgo. She earned 30.74% of the total for “Stormchaser.”

These results suggest it could turn into a nail-biting selection. Birgo could well blow VÆB away if all the elements come together.

Poll results: Who should win Söngvakeppnin in Iceland?

  1. VÆB – “RÓÁ” – 32.73%, 328 votes
  2. Birgo – “Ég flýg í storminn” / “Stormchaser” – 30.74%, 308 votes
  3. Tinna – “Þrá” / “Words” – 9.18%, 92 votes
  4. Júlí & Dísa – “Eldur” / “Fire” – 6.69%, 67 votes
  5. BIA – “Norðurljós” / “Northern Lights” – 5.49%, 55 votes
  6. Stebbi JAK – “Frelsið Mitt” / “Set Me Free” – 5.19%, 52 votes
  7. Dagur Sig – “Flugdrekar” / ”Carousel” – 2.99%, 30 votes
  8. Bjarni Arason – “Aðeins lengur” – 2.89%, 29 votes
  9. Ágúst – “Eins og þú” / “Like You” – 2.50%, 25 votes
  10. Bára Katrín – “Rísum upp” / “Rise Above” – 1.60%, 16 votes

Total votes: 1,002

VAEB is the most different option but BIRGO is the option I like most, though it will probably flop in May.

I feel like VÆB could have some great staging

What’s the ESC rule about “inspirayshon <3” from an already existing song?

“Hatunat HaShana” by Itay Levy and Eyal Golan, anyone?

No, the beat is similar, but it‘s too generic to call it a copy. I Heard similar beats in other songs. This wasn’t a hit in Europe or Iceland, I’m pretty sure it’s a coincidence.

Both great songs but VAEB is a bit better and they have better chances with that

They should send Birgo if they want a shot at qualification. But they will send væb and it will flop.
