The dirty dozen

After a weekend that saw five national selection shows, we now have 12 publicly confirmed and performed songs for Eurovision 2025.

Ireland kicked things off on Friday when it named Norwegian singer EMMY as its winner. She’ll sing “Laika Party,” a song that rewrites the tragic history of the Soviet space dog Laika.

On Saturday night we looked east. Finland’s UMK saw fan favourite Erika Vikman suggestively work a microphone stand en route to winning with “ICH KOMME.”

Over in Ukraine Ziferblat won a competitive Vidbir with “Bird of Pray.” And in Latvia Tautemeitas shocked the pre-contest favourites to book their place in Basel.

We finished the night in the Mediterranean, where Malta’s Miriana Conte served “KANT” and left a continent gagging.

But who is your favourite Eurovision 2025 act so far? Do any of these acts top your list? Or are you sticking with one of the earlier entries?

You can vote for as many countries as you’d like  but you can only submit your votes ONE time. Be sure to tick the box next to each act you’re choosing before pressing submit.

Poll: What’s your favourite Eurovision 2025 act so far?

None of them, maybe Greece, Erika has a very good performance but the song itself is not that good. Zjerm: not my kind of music, Luxembourg, very sweet performance and nice song, but not a winner. Belgium,
decent but , it doesn’t grab me etc.

The fact that any of top 5 last year would have easily won this year.

Ok my ranking so far: 1. Latvia – y’all are still salty about The Ludvig not winning, and that’s understandable, but in no world does this beautiful song and staging package deserve to be so low in the polls (3rd from last as I’m writing). 2. Greece – needs some elevated staging but the song cannot be denied. 3. Finland – it’s fun and iconic and we are sticking it to the puritans who claim women’s sexuality is somehow dirty. 4. Malta – the staging for MESC was a bit messy, but they have plenty of time to tidy that… Read more »

Can we talk about the fact that there are more native languages songs in this list of 12 entries than in the entire list of 40 songs that competed in 2015? So great to see how much more diverse Eurovision has become in the last decade

Otto

Or more nationalistic..?
(BTW I also like the fact that more countries sing in their native language, but not sure you can relate that to a desire for diversity)

I hope a good song wins not an ambiguous performance. I also hope we haven’t heard the winning song yet. But at this moment I’m a bit disappointed, Greece and Luxemburg are okay.

It matters because the eurofans vote and as far as I know, they vote a lot (Their votes can influence the outcome, no data to back up how much though).

I believe this could be one of Malta’s best years for televoting. With the semi-finals being decided solely by the public vote and considering the country’s disappointments in past years, this might be the perfect opportunity for a turnaround

Somehow I don’t think so. Just my personal opinion. It’s a catchy song, but it’s average. Miriana doesn’t sound good live and the whole performance comes across as cheap. I don’t think the televoting public will be impressed by this. It gives me last place vibes.

Haven’t been as connected with ESC this season as I was before. Usually in full on hype mode now but this year (and last year) I’m just not.

I have listened to a few entries though and although it probably won’t win, I can see it being a fab favourite and probably the breakout meme song of the year, especially due to that hook, but I’m quite loving Malta so far.

Tbh I sometimes like this kind of song just because “Yaaasss, slay queen” even if it deosn’t bring anything really interesting in the contest but in this case the live performance is a complete mess. She had my favorite song of their selection but if I was Maltese I would never have voted for such a terrible performance… everything was bad: vocals, staging and outfits.

I hope she will improve a lot otherwise I can’t see this surviving the semi final.
