Format of Melodifestivalen 2025

30 acts participate in Melfest 2025 split into 5 heats of six acts each. The number 1 and 2 placed acts from each heat qualify directly to the grand final in Stockholm, and the three lowest placed acts are finished in the competition. This make up for the first 10 acts qualifying for the grand final

The number 3 placed entries of each heat will have their fate decided in a Final Qualification held in connection with heat 5. The five songs will compete for 2 tickets to the grand final decided by the percentage of votes each entry got in their heat plus the amount of votes they get in the Final Qualification.

12 songs compete in the Grand Final of Melodifestivalen held in Strawberry Arena in Stockholm on 8 March.

Melodifestivalen is hosted by Kristina ”Keyyo” Petrushina and Edvin Törnblom.

Who is your favourite in this heat? Are any of these acts the one you want to see go all the way to Eurovision? Let us know in the comments below.

My qualifiers would be Angelino and Dolly Style. With Malou Prytz or Greczula to the second chance. I could not tell you why Yihaa works for me and 24K Gold does not, but there we are I guess.

Every outcome that has Greczula out of the final would be a shame. They guy is miles above the competition. The entry has a Billy Idol vibe that ozes quality and personality.

This is the worst heat. Four songs are complete garbage. And I mean garbage. Even as a swede I sometimes wonder how long some songs have been in someones drawer. Angelino’s song sound like an old Justin Timberlake song. And to put rain and pain in the lyrics is so done and generic that my ears bleed. Annika looks and sound like an old lady. Just because you’re bigger you can act and look like a young woman. I hate that genre! Dolly Style is done. Fake pop group for kids. Oh my! The best out of this is Grezcula… Read more »

24k gold remimds me (even staging) of Marcus & Martinus last year. But deff going to final. I bet Mans will win this year unless the song is meh 🙂

I don’t know why I was surprised to check the comments here and see how few people actually recognised how good “believe me” is as an option for sweden – and fail to see what’s made it shoot to third in the mello odds. He can perform live, it’s catchy, it’s fun, it’ll shine on a stage, and it’s VERY unlike what sweden has sent the last few years.

For real. “Believe me” is the best from the bunch we’ve heard already.

I feel like everyone is overly harsh as is custom when it is anything melfest (quelle surprise). I think the third heat is stronger than the previous two, with five out of six songs fighting for the tickets (only rädda mig being left solidly at the bottom)! My favourite is Malou but im not convinced by her stage precense, after her Annikas performance just makes me happy even if it is a bit simple. Greczula is gonna be lapped up by the 30-50s people and Dolly style will be loved by the youngest. Angellos song is a Tusse reject for… Read more »

Okay, I know I’m going to be in the minority here… Dolly Style is a complete hillbilly hot mess… but I’m kind of living for it!

That said, at the moment, I think Klara and Meira are still Sweden’s two best options.

Heat 2 didn’t host a winner either. The winner is most likely from the heat 4. Heat 4 – 99%, heat 5 – 1%.

Why heat five 1%? They usually save one of the best songs for last, which looks promising for Scarlet. It’s going to be either Klara or someone from heat 4 or 5.

Mediocrefestivalen going strong, by the listen of it…

With the rubbish served so far, Sweden is at risk of being a NQ this year.

So far it looks like a repeat of 2023. Throughout semifinal 1 to 4, we thought Sweden would NQ. Until Loreen dropped her song.

It only takes one really good song, one. If Mans has a song as awesome as he claims it to be, we’ll have to count on Sweden once again. And if he is the only one with a good song in the Melodifestivalen, it’s going to be an easy win.

OMG. This Semi is proving Melodifestivalen should cut its number of entries. All six are just… bland. It is a waste of time and resources – like mine and theirs.

Yes; that is the word of the street. She is rhe favourite so far. And some, like me, doubt Måns will win. It’s to early after Loreen to send another winner.

I’m Swedish and I’d like to send Scarlet if their song is good. Rumour says it is.

As for Swedish people in general, I think it’s 50% “We HAVE to send Måns!” and 50% ”Not Måns again, anyone but him please”

I like Teardrops the most here, 24k gold is interesting, Björn song is touching but I haven’t heard a Melfest winner or a potential Esc winner in the first 3 heats…
Are we in the same situation as 2023, but with Mans this time? Or maybe not at all and it’s Scarlet or somebody else from the 4th and 5th heat who has the winning song, we’ll see but my feeling so far is everything is done to help Mans like it was done for Loreen.
Answer in 1 or 2 weeks, we will know that soon.

I can’t feel this winner vibe with Klara honestly, I find On and on pretty average, nothing original and nothing outstanding, even the staging has nothing screaming winner…
To be honest if I was obliged to choose one song from the first 3 heats to win Melfest this year it would be Erik so far but without big conviction.

Erik has no chance. Especially with international juries.

?! But why? The song is good, it has a hook, Erik is a great performer, with a natural charisma, nothing feels forced in his performance compared to others and his great voice is the cherry on the cake, so I don’t see why the international juries couldn’t vote for him.

I would add, I got more pleasure to see Erik performing rather than with Klara or John, Erik feels more natural.

Because it does not stand out. Not original enough. To generic. Going by how the international juries voted in the past they always have something spectacular. Plus if the point is to find the best song for Sweden to Basel you have to look at how well it might do in ESC, and this would struggle

No really big names, which is good for the mix. That said I do think this is the weakest heat so far based on snippets. Maybe full versions will sound different.
I actually enyoed Dolly Style the most. Fun and catchy. Then Malou Prytz, nice that she found her sound.
But so far Klara Hammarström is the winners candidate
