There’s several reasons MGP was weak this year. One being NRK had a hard time finding any artists willing to participate, due to the political turbulence of Eurovision last year. Stig Karlsen openly admitted this. Norway is a lot more concerned about that political controversy surrounding Esc than other countries, who tend to just pretend everything is fine and focus on the fun and party. But in Norway, the Eurovision boycott last year was effective. We had the lowest Eurovision viewership since the early 90s. There’s a stink over the whole thing here. If you don’t know that context and… Read more »

This year’s Norsk MGP was much lower and less competitive than the last couple of years. The song is mediocre, uninspired, repetitive. It will probably Q to the final and that’s about it.

I liked and voted for Ladybug, my other option was Alessandra No 2 (Nataleen) or even WigWam.

Haha so your taste just ended up last in this very weak final as some people claim it was… how can your favourite come last if so? Maybe it wasn’t a weak final – maybe it was a even final, or good even!

As a Norwegian, and after attending the show live, Kyle wasn’t my favourite, but he was clearly the favourite among the majority in the audience. He was my second on the night. Kyle performed very well, slick choreo, and the lyrics are not bad at all. This type of song got lot of support from juries last year when from Luxembourg – but I do suspect Luxembourg got a lot of free votes just for being the big comeback of last year, more so than on the actual quality of the song. I have heard that “Lighter” might go through… Read more »

Excellent show. Sweden really could learn how to make a great show for the whole family. Instead Melodifestivalen has changed from beeing great, to be a pathetic gay show. The hosts in the norwegian final were really good. I better say nothing about the Swedish host, who I find pretty disgusting.

You cannot tell me this song was originally written for MGP, it sounds just like something Greece, Cyprus or Armenia would have sent 8 years ago. He performs this excellently but it’s such an uninspired song, potential NQ for Norway

Uninspired? The song is a homage to his mum for her bold struggle against cancer last year, which she won.

You have no clue of Eurovision obviously. Juries overlook almost all songs in national language and this year there is an overload of those – the few English bops will get lots of jury support this year.

Wow, Kyle has improved so much from MGP 2023 when he was part of Umami Tsunami ‘Geronimo’ (which finished last BTW). His confidence and stage presence is amazing for someone born in 2006. On the song, I would suggest a title change since the metaphor of being your own lighter is completely nonsensical to a native english speaker, perhaps ‘Fighter’ would be a more appropriate choice since he is wearing armor and chainmale already. Thrilled we have both the jury and televote agreeing on Norway’s only viable entry this year. Best of luck…and don’t forget the title change (lol)!

I don’t think Norway belongs in the bottom third at the odds with this entry.

I love the mixture of genres in the song, as well as Kyle’s own inspiration from the strength of his mother who survived cancer. He is into something with the medieval outfits and staging which make it really unique and tell a story – hopefully this can be expanded upon! Kyle is a superstar and I’m so glad he had this opportunity after Unami Tsunami came last in the final of MGP a few years ago! My winner for now! Fingers crossed voters see Kyle’s potential as well!

I wasn’t really sold on the studio version, but he really elevated the song today with his performance, he was the best of the night by far. I think Norway can expect a solid mid table finish in the final with this.

The best in a weak final. Polished, slick, nothing we have not seen before. And yet it works, there is something there. I think it’s Kyle himself who carries the song on his own. So young and so assured! Could work in ESC.
Good luck neighbours!

Kyle’s song is great, good song powerful bop and i like it and the ‘No way’ ‘no way’ in the song, a play on the word Norway….cool thing to do . But i noticed something … Norway uses autotune in their national final, when Kyle won in his reprise his auto tune was off, his real singing cababilities was shown…worrying thing it wasn’t good. Maybe he was overwhelmed. I wish him well and hope he gets a good placing.

Stian F

Stop it! The autotune is barely noticeble and autotune cannot cover up a really bad live vocal. Autotune on live mics is not the same as autotune on a studio recorded song. It is about time people learn the difference. But he was overwhelmed yes. He had already lost his voice when he was thinking everyone, before his winning performance.

I think that international juries are being increasingly handpicked by broadcasters to reaffirm their preferred candidate. Given that there are no juries in the semis anymore it’s probably time to get rid of them.

How would NRK be able to handpick 50 different jurors from 10 different countries? They are barely able to come up with 5 of their own for Eurovision itself. Your comment is insane and a clear conspiration theory. Lol.

Lighter makes more sense, since I think juries tend to favor songs that are very radio friendly when they dont just give all their love to balads. Idk what happened in Estonia though.

Before this live national final happened, I was worried for Norway. But now, I’m no longer worried. All the performances tonight were great, so the decision is just about what type of song Norway wants to send. I think “The Game” is technically the best one here, but if you want to send rock (Wig Wam) or pure nostalgic joy (Bobbysocks) then this would also be fine with me.
