At the start of the year, Lucio Corsi was an unknown artist performing small gigs on the Italian independent music scene. Fast forward to Sanremo 2025 in February, and he’d stormed the scoreboard, finishing in second place. Yet after the Sanremo winner Olly decided to withdraw on Saturday, Lucio now finds himself at the centre of a media and cultural storm — and his music is the wind powering all the chatter.
He now accounts for nearly half of all the songs on Spotify Italy’s Viral Top 50 chart. As you know, the viral chart tracks songs gaining popularity on the platform at a rapid pace. The popularity on this chart is often driven by social media making tracks go viral. So in short, the chart prioritises velocity over total listens — but the former can definitely drive the latter.

Tommy cash tops Italy’s Viral Top 50 chart
The number one song on Italy’s Viral Top 50 chart belongs to another Eurovision artist: Estonia’s Tommy Cash with his Italian-language entry “Espresso Macchiato.”
It’s safe to say that Italians are listening for a mix of reasons beyond the song’s catchy rhythms. Many Italian Eurofans have expressed their dismay that the song mocks Italian culture and subscribes to specific stereotypes.
The interest in the song may be driven by curiosity — even offence. Will that translate into votes at Eurovision? We’ll have to see in May.
Most old-fashioned entry of Eurovision 2025
Italy might be even in bottom5 with this boring song
Since 2016, Italy is not in the top10 odds after the selection of boring and bland song.
Right, I’ve now become accustomed to the official music video, as the live version from Sanremo keeps getting harder and harder to find, and I must admit the difference is huge. The live orchestra, the electric guitars and Ottomano’s presence in Sanremo elevated the song SO bloody much! It was proper 70s vibes in the context of that old theatre as well. As for the music video, I’m irritated by the continuous interruptions from the spoken dialogues. In addition, the production makes it sound more flat, uninspired and insipid. It’s lost its rawness which is what attracted me in the… Read more »
The production of the music video shouts that “I really don’t care about Eurovision, I don’t want to get good result”
Italy is not good at staging; I don’t think that good staging would make the song better because it is boring, bland.
In a year with several quirky entries; I think this song can do well in jury voting.
probably it would be one of Italy’s worst result at eurovision; as the odds also confirm this
Meanwhile, his song “Tu sei il mattino” is in the 3rd place of the Global Viral Chart on Spotify. Not Italy, Global chart. Sanremo does it again.
This song was easily the best of the ballads in Sanremo this year. A gentle melody and a real message in the song – there is a reason he is being called a poet. Olly’s song was just the same Italian ballad that we have heard over and over – and didnt even have a message to it. Also remember that the votes were super close – Lucio only came second with 0,45% less total score. LESS than half a percent!!!! It literally was a tie. I have a feeling that the many negative reactions to the song is that… Read more »
I had the same feeling about Salvador Sobral. At first, I thought, “Hmm… what a strange guy.” But then, the next thing I knew, I was listening to all his songs and watching all his interviews. The same thins happening with Lucio. The more I explore him, the more it feels like discovering a genius. Grande, Lucio! Grande Tommaso!
I think the song is no catcher but a okay ballad
Italy’s songs during 1980s Eurovision contests sounded more modern and original, compared to this song :/
I wondered why everyone tends to put this song not even in their top10 but now I understand the reason.
But He looks like a funny person who lost his job and started doing music 🙂
Good luck to him, I hope he would not be placed at bottom 5
Italy disappointed me this year; this song is not even memorable; sounds quite outdated
This comment is not from me, just to distance myself from this outrageous slander

In the above post I linked you commented as “Frederick” and below you was “Roger”, this time in this post there’s you as “Jonas” and below is “Theo”.
Why you use multiple names here? Do tell, please. 🙂
seems that Lucio Corsi wants to get bottom5 position with this song at Eurovision ? At least, they might choose another song for tim with Italian delegation because this song is really boring.
Nice… still I don’t this song?
It doesn’t allow to edit, so here it goes: nice, “I still don’t like this song”. And I honestly don’t unterstand wiwiblogs purpose: are you trying to convince something??? Gosh
Ok, this is the typical italian who didn’t like Måneskin, now he doesn’t like Lucio. I am sure he wanted only Elodie or something similar. There is nothing to do, Italians don’t know who to team up to support someone who is successful. They always have to complain.
I love the song from Lucio Corsi very much and I wish him good luck in Basel.
He will be higher than anyone expects. Typical eurofan will never understand the quality music:)
Sorry Italy the Child Catcher is not going to go well for you!
At the risk of using too obscure of a reference – does anyone else see Calle Hellevang-Larsen in that white-face makeup?
This song has no chance to be in top10-15; it sounds like a lullaby 🙁
Congratulations to him as he would be one of Italian entrants who would get bottom5 position in televoting 🙁
I wonder whether he ever watched Eurovision before because he should realize that his song sounds like from Eurovision in 1970s :/
Nice that he’s doing so well in the Italian charts, but girl, this song is leaving me cold.
Hopefully he can elevate his performance for Eurovision and make something of this, but either way, it’s not on my radar.
I am sorry but compared to previous Italian entries before, this song is quite underwhelming :/
Might get either good Votes or maybe even last place in televoting I am afraid 🙁
I respect to him but his song is not my cup of tea; quite boring and has no unique or special aspects for a ballad.
Nothing about San Marino semi finals?
i think, bella italia spotify is very different from the most europian countries – with a look on the final sanremo result i see from place 1-9 only ballads.
i have no idea which of these 9 ballads (canzone) is the best but i like none of them – after maneskin i have really thought that this winner gives sanremo more music genre diversity but 2025 was a mess in this case.
i wish mister corsi good luck in basel but i do not think, that he can make a result like portugal in 2017.
Why couldnt he choose another song for Eurovision, rather than this slow tempo ballad song? Does he want to be in last position?
Tell me, Salvador Sobral won with a slow (very slow) ballad. Duncan Lawrence won with a ballad. Why do you think a ballad cannot win?
But their ballads were way better and their songs have some instrumental backtrack.
I think it was a clever choice. This year is full of shallow uptempo songs, so his entry will definitely stand out plus the lyrics are genius!
RAI should make it mandatory for the Sanremo winner to go to ESC and if they have any conflicts during the first two weeks of May, they should not be able to participate in Sanremo. Thanks for making a spot in Top 10 for some other entry, Italy.
Italian here but not a fan of him.
Anyway: ESC should not be considered as a mere competition for victory.
Artists should show what they can do on stage, their soul, their skills (vocals but not only or not necessary). They have the chance to speak (well: to sing) to a larger audience than their normal (sized) one.
I think Lucio will speak to us all, also to those -like me- that are not his first fans.
Myself I like seeing Eurovision as a platform to discover new artists every year. I really love it when a contest is diverse and countries show what they have in store, a glimpse of what locals listen to in their respective countries. Sadly, many countries don’t like showcasing their local scenes though
100% agree with you. Eurovision is great for local scene discoveries. We would never know Sudden Lights or Joker Out. It’s very sad that some countries try to hard with Gson-like entries.
Definitely! Forgot to add that it’s also great when some countries choose an up-and-coming act with a promising career to represent them at the ESC stage
the aliens walk among us
looks interesting
The moment when they come together and sing reminds me of Bowie and Ronson doing Starman on Top of The Pops. That’s a good thing.
Someone’s been watching Bowie & Ronson performing Starman on Top of The Pops in 1972
Italy should have chosen Gorgia with her song , brilliant singer and song ! far superior to the rest of the s-it in San remo
A much better song and much more interesting act. Actually RAI got really luck to get such an interesting musician representing Italy. I see a lot of potential for a top 5
There’s something so unsettling about him I really like.
Welcome to the ESC, Lucio.
His looks are uncanny, but in a captivating way imo. Like, fascinating instead of frightening
So he’s definitely quirky, omg I’ve just watched 2 of his previous music videos. One was about Trieste and the wind. Sounded poetical but I have no idea what the song was about. Oddly he’s from Tuscany, I’ve just read on WP, and I do wonder what brought him to write such a deep piece about a completely different town in a distant region. Then I watched another video set in a basketball court with nuns and I did not understand what the song was about IN THE SLITGHEST. Not a clue. Looool what a weird video. But I felt… Read more »
Espresso clearly mocks foreigners who can’t speak Italian properly but try to “shine” by knowing one word or two. Glad that the smart Italian people have embraced this spectacularly good song rather than follow the 0.5 % in their outcry.
the only thing that actually makes me laugh about espresso macchiato are these comments of people trying to find depth in it
Reminds me of FloyyMenor trying to give some meaning to Gata Only in his Genius interview in December lmao
He is really a gold mine of poetry, good lyrics, composition and visual artistry in his videos. I am moved and in tears when I listen to some of his songs. This has more art and inspiration than all the acts of the eurovision of the last 10 years, put together.
The sad thing is that a silly song like Espresso Macchiato may win this edition. Crazy.
He is a great artist but we’ll calm down for five minutes. Saying he is better than all of the ESC acts from the 10 previous years is very pretentious.
And don’t worry, Espresso Macchiato has nearly 0 chance to win Eurovision. Juries will destroy it and I don’t see it reaching the top 3 with the public.
If the juries are only there to “destroy” songs that people love, then maybe it’s time to rethink the point of their presence.
I didn’t say it was there purpose. They base their note on a lot of factors, the vocal performance and quality of the song being part of them. Tommy Cash and his song are going to flop on those points. On the other hand the impact of the performance is also part of the criteria, which should play a bit in his favor. But overall I think juries won’t like it at all. We have to thanks the juries for being there because they allow some great artists to obtain a decent results. For example Portugal 2024 or Estonia and… Read more »
Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if Tommy doesn’t even make it to the final
But his Esc song is not in the Viral top?!
If the Viral Chart really works by taking into account the songs that are emerging rapidly in popularity currently, it may not include the ESC song since it is already popular since the Sanremo week and is not emerging now
Oh ok!
even Italians don’t like this song, that’s why this song is not in Viral top 🙂
His esc song is doing more than 1 million spotify streams per day mainly from Italy so there are italians loving this I guess
And to think people tried to get offended on behalf of the italians over Tommy Cash’s song. Anyway how wonderful to see Lucio get this kind of recognition. A well worked, beautiful artist paying his dues finally seeing this level of success is always something to be celebrated.
Just listened to some of his songs and wow. Amazing, especially Trieste with beautiful lyrics. Check him out!
Did you see the videos, too?
